  1. The Laws have changed, they can own bikes now, their name in the book, even on a 30 day stamp. I have my Pick up registered in my name, i done it on a 30 day entry stamp.

A few years ago it had to be a Thai name without an appropriate Visa, that changed a while back.

A few years ago? My first bike was bought in Pattaya 1984 with my name. In 1990 I bouhgt a big new bike in BKK, in my name, and I still have the bike legally in my name. This law about farang can not buy bike or car have to be very old.

  2. Give me a phone number of ANYONE you know who has made an illegal bike legal. I'll pay you 1,000 baht if it's really true.

So, lets see who's right and who's wrong. I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is (even if that does sound kinda icky) :o

And, frankly, I hope I'm wrong. It would help many friends....

I am in with 1000 baht too, have to bikes who "wants" plates.

  3. Thanks for response!

Both [email protected] and Bupa cover enough to get visa to schengen, but the price was 3545THB from Bupa and 16000THB (371.00USD).

Mr. Mean was your experience from IHI when you buy the insurance or when you use it? IHI cover more Than Bupa but cost 4.5times more and Bupa still cover enough for the travel. I havent heard any bad feedback from Bupa, and 12500THB

should give me a 400-500 beer i Copenhagen.

  4. My bank in Norway change 10000 NOK to THB and transfer to my Thai account every month at the same date. I always get 58 200-59000, somtimes when I mail my bank and order ekstra money, they send NOK and I end up with 1-2k less. I never checked the rates and when it takes 4-5 days from norway to Thailand the rates can change and I know my bank Krung Thai is not the best one in Thailand. After some posting here I checked with my Bank DNB Last time the money was change at a rate 100THB=17.05 NOK, 10000NOK=58651.24THB I end up with 57961.00 after transfer and fee to krung Thai bank. The money arrive at august 3 and i checked with Siam city bank same date. NOK Bank Note rate 5.73.

10 000 NOK will give me 57300 and after paying for transfer, fee and exchangecost I will end with less if I transfer NOK. I can see the rates are going up, so next time I transfer I will do half in THB and half in NOK. A couple of years ago I used my Visa card and thats was expensive. I think they charged me 4.5% every time I used and ATM to withdraw money from Norwegian account.

  5. Another thing I see is Laos guys showing up with a bulk amount of passports, perhaps from a hotel in either box or large folder. They ignore the line, go right up to the window as if the quantity gives them more importance and for some reason, the staff processes all the passports straight away every time!

Well i know what i would do, find out what hotel he works this service from, and stay there. :o

It has been a few years since I have been to laos for a visa but I did get 2 60 day visas in a row there, And 1 non "O",But I have never been up to the front door.

I went to the tables out front gave my paperwork and request to one of the guys there along with 1000 baht, went back about 1 block to my hotel and the next morning they came with my visa.

No way would I stand in line out there and fight the weather for 1000 baht. :D

Thats the way to do visa in Vientianne. Don't deal with the brainless staff from the embassey. You can offer 500-700 baht to the people who do visa service in the tables outside embassey, and you will get your visa at time. You dont need them to bring the passport to your hotel. Just make a time outside the embassey where you fill out the visapaper. If you so "kineo" so you want to risk a heartattack, deal with the embasseystaff.

  6. last year I was thinking about staying in Norway a couple of years with my Thai wife. My pension is about 70k a months. The Norwegian refused visa to my wife, also a 90 days visa was refused. They need garanti of minimum 73k a month and a residence(a house or someone to garanti for rest of the money and a place to stay.) I lived in Thailand since 1978 so I don't have a house, and I don't want to ask som relatives for garanti for a place to live 2 years and cover health insurance and the rest of money. Don't blame Thailand for their peanuts garanti and easy visa rules, try Norway! Or maybe its the the same rules in all of europe now?

  7. Does this mean that color-blind folks (such as myself) can't get a license? In the US, if you fail the "book" test, they ask you you separate small pieces of cloth by color, red, green and yellow predominate this test (which I can pass). Is there something similar in Thailand? Thanks.

I don't test when i get my license, get mc, car and tuktuk fom my eu standard card, but I need colourblindtest from a doctor, and a lot of copies of adressconfirmation, passport, drivinglicense, non o visa. Before i get the thai driving licence they check me again with a colour blindtest. The blindtest was a book with numbers. I don't have International drivinglicense, only the eu standar and I have to arguing a little and tell them that my card is a inernational license. They gave me the license after the blindcolourtest. I think it is very easy if you have an International dl.

It also depend where you live. In Isan Is very easy.

  8. In the US, it is proven that cars with headlights on during the day can decrease accidents by as much as 20%. New cars have this feature. Did you know that it is unlawful in Thailand for a car to have headlights on during the day? Only govt. officials/members of the Royal Family are allowed to do this.

I always turn the headlights on in the daytime when I'm driving, seems to slightly upset the wife most times. It's been proven that it does save lives, I'll keep doing it.

I am not sure, but I think this law has changed now. If you are stopped by police, they now tell you to use your light in daytime to. Its also been report in news like

penzman said and Thailand is going to changes this law. So I don't think you need to have a royality or Thaksins daughter back on your mc when you use light during daytime. You can also see the Thais use light now. But they don't understand why.

  9. The UK has pretty much decriminalised on a street level

YE ! AND WHAT A MESS IT IS NOW IN THE UK

All you have to do is go into any of our cities Manchester,Liverpool, london or even Towns like Wigan, Warrington, on most nights of the week. :o

I know why i want to live in Thailand. :D

When the gowernment in Thailand make war on drugs, you have to live with that. If they liberated it in Europa you have to accept this too. I prefer to sit in a coffeshop in Amsterdam with a joint and speak with creative people than with Thai or farang Lao Khao drinkers.

  10. But I recomend people who do drugs, stay away from Thailand. You can't buy dope without a lot of people know that the farang use dope and one day, some who not benefits from it will sell you to his policefriend. Don't take the risk.

  11. Does anyone know what happens to a forang who is caught by the police with a small quantity of marijauna intended for personal consumption?

Two farangs was arrested by police two years ago with 30grams of marihuana. One of them run a tattoshop and he also make tatto for the two local police. They stayed in phangan for many years, have no working permit, but all the locals like them. One day a lot of police from surat thani came to the island and raid paradise waterfall known for their parties and drugselling not for the waterfall. One of the boy from the ownerfamily run to the jungle with the drugs and police not find anything. The people from the place said that it was the farang in the hut in the jungle nearby who was the drugdealers. Police went to their hut and find them sleep in the hammock and find a bong and 30grams. Police arrested them and hand them over two the local police. They vas told by the local police that 30 grams is over the limit for a fine and deported. Some local governmentpeople came to the policestation and next day the police told them that they can't find all the marihuana so there is only 8 grams (4 grams to each) of evidence now, so this will be under the 5 grams limit for deported. The police told them that next morning they will be sendt to the court in surat thani and the court will fine you 50k and maybe deported. They was told by police to find a good laywer and told the court that you wanted the court to act as with the Thais. The court accept this and they was free to go back to pangan, but have to came back every weeks. After two months the was fined 10 000 each, but alltogether with lawyer etc, 35k each. No red stamps no deport. If you are arested and acept the 50000bath fine you will also deported. If it is under 5grams you can do the thaiway, two days in jail and no deport or black list. This is only about marihuana, other drugs no mercy at all.

The farang who was arested have now working permit non imm b visa and lisence to make tattoshop in all surat province. I think it will be different if you arrested in Bangkok or up in the north. Koh Pha-ngan is more libareted to marihuana than other province in Thailand. In koh pha-ngan i met people who was arested four times and still no red stamps.

  12. Most people who smoke dope are the most boring people I have ever met.

They have this sort of 'cool gang' mentality and have probably lived very avarage lives and followed the in crowd all of their lives.

Sadly, I have a good friend here who enjoys a frequent joint.

I'd rather have a joint of beef - at least it doesn't make me hyper-paranoid, lazy, forgetful and sick - I've never seen what the fuss is about.

I think you don't have a clue about what you talking about.

  13. What kind of stuff have you found from China that matches the quality from America?

Spesially Crossbows, CO2 pelletguns, blowguns, slingshot. Company like Barnetts, maybe the best crossbows in the world, is no made in China and Taiwan but they are made under license so you cant order from china. Taiwan produce a lot of paintguns for the american marked and if you look for co2 pelletguns, you will find out, that almost all are made in China or Taiwan. I found some funny powerfull crossbows who also can shoot 6mm steelballs, like and airgun and my friend and I contact the company and get monopolly for theese crossbows in Thailand and Sweden. And they are still legal in Thailand. Funny stuff!

  14. The paintguns, crossbows, blowguns, powrslingshot and other legal stuff in Thailand is to expencive. Like ajarn said is about 400% more than websides overseas. The duty is only 6% if you imported a paintgun for personal use. If you import to sell, then you need importlicense, licence for sell and much more tax. Buy it from america, but a problem is that most of the websides who deal with all kind of guns don't ship outside america. So get a friend to buy it for you and send it to you and mark the pack sportequipments. You will save a lot of money. I do the same before, but I find out that china now have some stuff who can match the quality from america and at a "funny" price.

  15. No nightlife no green parks. The place is famous for the hundreds of wholesale shops around Baiyoke Tower (328m) crowded with people from everywhere in the world fighting for the lowest price. Simular to weekend marked but almost clothes.

The areas also have some large shoppingmall and some famous schools, but the great overview over Bangkok from the restaurant in top of the tower is a must.

    Live? No!
