  1. Is there any other way to get from the Don Muang train station to the Don Muang Domestic Airport besides taxi? I know you used to be able to walk across to the Amari to get to the International Terminal but can't seem to find any info of how to get from train deport to airport now - walking or shuttle bus? Would prefer to avoid taxis. Have looked at http://www.donmuangairportonline.com/terminal-map but still have not found specific info.

Thank you for any information or direction to links.

  2. A friend of mine left for Penang on Monday, arriving on Tuesday he gave his passport and fee to NJ bookshop. When he went back to collect the following day he had his passport and fee returned with NJ informing him that the consulate had run out of visa stickers!! They also added that none would be available until Jan and the consulate is struggling to deal with the number of applications as 450 applied on the same day as him....

My friend is arriving in Kota Bahru ( sp ) in a couple of hours to try there so if he calls me I'll update with the situation there.

Do you have an update since your friend arrived? I leave in a few days for Penang tourist visa. Thanks!

  3. . . . in Thailand most expats don't want anything other than to freeload on the state, have their own estates, mosques, culture and the like, never learning Thai even. Only one thing make him looks different from Thai is money. But his money from untrusted sources (may have money, but may be work unlegal), so genuine tourists more welcome for Thai economics than longstayers without proper visa.

Does anyone know what amount of income tax is actually being avoided by ex-pats who live here? Is there a flat income tax or a percentage based on income?

  4. don't be so surprised to see all of his "supporters" from all over issarn and the nothern region..... what a deal ... show ur presence, sit down and u get a brand new red shirt and an extra 1500 baht in ur pocket. thats what they're handing out... and free transportation, and if ur lucky enough to be the driver , u get gas money (how ever much that is now.. used to be 2000)

    Source?

  5. There is a need to change the way foreigners can enter the country to work under the premise of a stamp on arrival intended for tourism purposes.

This amendment is to limit workers from neighboring countries getting 90 days, not to make life hard for visa runners.

Well regardless of the intent, the result IS to make life harder for those of us who have planned trips to be around 90 days - that's a lot of visa runs every 15 days this winter. Next year, will obviously get a different kind of visa.

  6. It is no big deal. Doing border runs is a waste of money and time anyway when double entry visas are available in Laos.

I can't understand everyone getting worked up about it. One trip to Laos can provide six months in Thailand.

Could you elaborate please? I thought you could just get a 60-day tourist visa there.

This definitely affects me and there must be others like me - here for four months every year, shortened to 3 months when Tland changed visa reqs a few years ago. One year I paid extra to get a retirement visa so guess I'll go back to doing that as I'm certainly not truckin' to Mae Sai every two weeks all winter.

  7. I saw a "gang" of red shirts harrassing the yellow-shirted (their uniform) workers at popular Thai restaurant half-way down Ratchadamoen several nights ago. Also, Sunday night before Walking Street market started there were 3 tuks-tuks full of redshirts yelling with speakers blaring, circling various blocks for about an hour in that area. That's the only evidence I've seen within the old city. The redshirts look really angry and violent to me, unlike the relatively peaceful PAD protesters.

  8. thai will listen to any blabbering idiot. Convicted or not convicted.

I have been following all ThaiVisa forums related to the closing of the airports for four days and I am astounded by the cynicism and negative opinions that so many ex-pats have of the Thai people.

I wanted to alert some of my English-reading Thai friends to this forum for some uptodate info that others have been providing but I was too ashamed of all the posts that denigrate Thai people in general - not just the PAD or the PPP. I can't imagine choosing to live in a country where I had so little respect for the people.
