  1. Hi

am shortly returning to live in Bangkok with my GF - having been back in UK for almost 2 years I suspect some things have changed others havent. My few questions are:

    1. I live near Soi 14, Chaengwattana Road, not far from the Doestic airport and was wandeting if there where any good sports bars opened in this area recently which cater for farangs ????

    2. Any pubs that do a good Sunday Roast in this area?

In the City the pubs I used to frequent on a Saturday evening for the Football and Rugby was Gullivers in Nana - is this still the best option for food and drink and the most reasonable in terms of cost?

    2. Are there any other good pubs which are run along the same lines?

Since being back in UK have aquired a taste for cider and want to know if any pubs serves good cider or maybe supermarkets which sell the imported kind ?

My last question taking my GF out she likes live music ( rock ) and again any suggestions for places that do reasonable food and drink.

Much appreciated if i can get some responses and happy songran day

  2. I have posted a similra topic on travle page but looking for advice in tandem with my visa. I am returning to Thailand to be with my gf and am looking to go out about March 09. However not sure when I will be returning and dont envisage returning until about May 2010. I am looking to obtain a multi entry visa which allows me to stay in Thailand with extensions and border runs for up to 270 days ( I think ) but if i purchase a return ticket on March 02 2009 I have to return to the UK before March 01 2010.

But then i would have to buy another return ticket coming back from BKK in May 2010.

I have looked at the Thai Asia website and can get a single flight for 229 pounds flying to KL and then i could get a single to BKK - my question would be would Immigration let me enter Thailand from KL with a multi entry visa but no return ticket ? And also would this cause problems when i wanted to extend my visa from 60 days to 90 days at Immigration ? and also when i crossed the border and returned back to Thailand after 90 days.?

I would then look to buy a single back to UK with ThaiASIA from KL in May 2010 ( asuming they still operate ) and then when I return again in Sept would get a normal return ticket.

Sorry for going on but reeive so much conflictiong reports would appreciate real views and experiences.

    Many thanks

    Dave

  3. Cheers for the responses - so I am right in saying that i need to return within the 12 month period and then get another return flight to BKK ( So i book a flight March 09 return Sept 09 - back to BKK Sept 09 return May 10 ) rather than out March 09 return May 10.

  4. I am returning to Bangkok at the beginning on March after being in the UK or the last 12 months - The dilemma I have is that I have no idea how long I will spend in Thailand - I dont want to return this year and would ideally like to come back in May 2010 -

However my understaning is that a ticket purchased is only valid for 1 year so if I travel to Thailand on the 2nd March 2009 I have to return on that ticket by 1st March 2010.

I know the option would be just not return and buy a single ticket from Thailand to the UK in May 2010 but going from Bangkok to London is so much more expensive than the other way - and if i bought a return i would be always paying more

Does anyone have any experience of this or maybe help out with my dilemma

Another option would be to get a return ticket coming back in Sept have a short holiday in UK and then get another return flight - but is this the only option ?????

  5. Hi, and welcome.

I am admittedly biased in favor of our sponsors, whom you will find listed in the banners atop the teaching forum, above.

So iterms of your sponsors the questions I posed would be the same

    1. where is a good place to do the TEFL Course and why - lenght of course feedback etc

    2. Types of employment i may expect to get given that I dont possess a Degree, which TEFL schools provide the best help in aquiring employment

    3. Areas in the country best suited to do course and employment

4 what kind of money would i be looking at

  6. Hi Everyone

Am returning with my girlfriend to Thailand in the coming months and require some unbiased - ( if possible ) information on TEFL Schools.

I have been an ESOL Administrator for the last 12 months and want to learn to teach and do some teaching to supplement my money.

The question I have is, can people reccommend TEFL schools that they have attended in the last say 2 years and pass on information like how proffesional the schools are, the type of school, and importantly how smooth is the transition from being in the class to actually getting a job.

Although we are moving back to Bangkok I am happy to relocate to other parts of thailand to do the course if the school is reccomended and also easy to get a job after.

I dont possess a degree and am told this will impact on my job prospects. - but to be honest am not looking at it as a career, more to help and earn some money.

Also it would be useful if people suggested places to avoid - as this also helps to make my decision - as they all seem to advertise the earth and guarrantee work which am sure is not always the case.

I also assume that getting work in places like Phuket and other touristy areas is difficult - compared to say bangkok?

Many thanks in advance for your input and all information will be appreciated

    Regards

    Dave

  7. Hi

My GF and I are in the UK at the moment but want to get my foot on the property ladder in Phuket. We have a place in Bangkok but I would like to buy an off plan condo in Phuket witha view to sell when it is completed.

The Reason for this is that we can then buy, with the money, our own land and house in our own style which we would supervise when we move to Thailand.

my question is we are looking to invest about 5-8 million in a condo - so when it is completed we are hoping to sell at a profit- all agents are telling us this is easy to achieve - however I am bit sceptical if this was the case everyone would be doing it not just big property developers.

Can anyone shed any light / experience to share with me

We would be looking to buy in Patong / Karon / Kata Area

    many thanks

  8. My gf is over in the UK on a student visa which expires in January 09- her father passed away recently and she has returned to Thailand to attend the funeral, and is returning next week. While she has been away i have decided that this is the girl for me and i want to marry her.

My question is if i decide i want to marry her in the UK - Can I ?

I have been looking on various sites and forums and i cant seem to find where if this situation has occured before so any information would be appreciated.

If we do get married in the UK then we will return to Thailand and do the Thai / Buddist marriage as it will satisfy her family.

I know that you require a fiance visa if coming from Thailand but do i have to apply for one of those before we can get married in UK

    Many thanks

    Dave
