  1. I have made a mistake in my calculation for my 90 days, I am flying to Bali for a long weekend for my visa run on the 18th February, my 90 days expires on the 15th February. My flight is at 06.15 in the morning and am told as i have never done this before that i can pay at the airport. Can someone advise me on what the process is ? how long it takes? and cost ? 500baht a day i have been informed - Will the office be open at this time ? i have to check in at 4am- 5am latest I believe.

  4. HI

Am coming to Hua Hin for 2 days 25th and 26th December and would like to go out for my xmas lunch dinner on the 25th - can anyone reccomend a good place which will do a traditional quality xmas feast with all the trimmings - not really interested in any of the international hotels who seem to charge the earth but maybe a pub or good local restaurant in the centre of HH and also an id of the costs etc

  5. If i start playing again will hire clubs for the 1st few months and if i get the gug then if the clubs are still for sale will be in touch to have a look many thanks dave

700 - 1000bht for respectable courses on "Sport day" is typical.

If its of interest, I am selling a set of clubs (Ping Eye2) complete with 2 drivers, heaven (7) wood and putter and Classic Ping Golf bag. Very forgiving clubs and an inexpensive way to get back into the game.

    PM me if you're interested.

  7. Hi help please

Have tried to trawl through prevoius topics / pinned suggestions without any luck

Am looking to start to learn basic Thai / conversation and enough to set me up

However as i live in Changwattana area north Bangkok am having little sucess in finding schools thai teachers that meet my needs

I dont really want to trawl into Bangkok city just for classes as i am liable to skip classes as it would seem a long way to travel just to attend class - can take up to an hour or more sometimes !

anyway does anyone out there have experience of learning Thai in this neck of the woods and what they would / would not reccomend schools teachers etc and costs would be useful and types of lesson you attended classes opr private

    many thanks

  8. Am taking a week off from Bangkok next month and decided my GF want to re visit Kho Toa been a number of years since we last visited.

My questions are can anyone reccomend nice clean bungalows close to the beach ? We stayed at Sairee beach last time but cant remember the name but was cheap clean and ideal for us

Also my GF loves snorkling ( she tried diving ) and wanted to know where the best places to go are ? that dont require going on a boat trip every day - we are planning to stay Mon-Fri

any good suggestions much appreciated, budget no real, but cheaper rather than expensive - last time we stayed 3 years ago we paid 600 baht a night for a fan room on/ near the beach

    regards

    Dave

  9. Since I have been living in Thailand I have occasionaly done the UK lottery on Line - when there has been a rollover etc just - have never won more than a tenner but then maybe a few months pass before I have another go.

Recently a message has appeared after I played last week stating :

If you are not physically in the UK or Isle of Man, or in a country where it is not lawful to play the UK National Lottery, you should not continue.

I am a UK citizen and have an address bank account in UK but not physically there however their website does not state which countries are lawful - I am guessing Thailand is OK as it runs its own lottery but does anyone know the correct facts

I would hate to win any big amounts only to find out that the win is null and void - no point playing

Anyone know the answer to my enquiry / many thanks

  10. Hello

Have been in Bangkok ( Chaengwattana, Don Meung Laksi area ) for a couple of years found myself a work weekends teaching at a language school and some private classes during the week, am now looking to start playing golf again

Whilst in the UK i was never great 20-24 handicap but enjoyed the game. My questions to you all is

    A) I want to play once a week -Mon-Friday ( NOT weekends and was wandering which is the best course in OP opinion around this area ( see above ) whats the costs? is it better to rent clubs? what costs? for a few times until i get into the swing of things and then purchase.

:) Do people play at these course regularly in the week are there any societies playing that I could join.

    C) As I dont have transport of my own thats why I am only interested in a small catchment area.

    d) I am not interested in becoming a member of a country club ( 1. cant afford it and have to justify costs to the missus ) just want a day when i can relax and enjoy a nice game with other people and it doesnt cost me an arm and a leg

    E) I have looked at the Thai golf site but no real help to a newbie ( I think )

    F) Does anyone use the Sports city driving range ? thats is about a mile from my condo and looks good to me to get back into swinging a club hitting balls again before I tackle a course.

Many thanks and any sensible suggestions would be appreciated

    dave

  11. Hello was wandering if you guys could help me out advice etc.

My missus is working Xmas day but we would like to go out for a nice traditional xmas dinner in the evening. My 1st question is does anyone know if there are places north of Bangkok that do traditional dinners in the evening ( Ploenchit, Chaengwttana, Rangsit area ) I suspect not as i have been living north of Thailand for some time and dont know of any such places but i thought i would ask. My GF works in Laksi so if possible like somewhere local

    If not Then

    2. In Bangkok looked at the thread last year and many places were suggested Bullys, Crossbar Hanrahans and Soi 8 ( I dont really want to go to a hotel - dont really like and prefer the atmosphere of pubs to hotels ) can anyone reccomend places they went last year which would be suitable.value for money menues costs etc . Soi 8 seems to be the most reasonable, but the last time I was in there people were smoking inside and not particulary pleasant when you want to enjoy a good hearty meal - maybe that has changed.

    many thanks in advance

Also one more question sorry is there a tradition here in Thailand amongst the expat community to go horse racing on Boxing day ? something i always did back home or go to football / rugby match whichever took my fancy any info would be appreciated

    Regards

    dave

  13. Hi

Am coming down to Patts in a couple of weeks and a few days r&r away from Bangkok with the missus. One of my usual treats is to go for a english breakfast with all the trimmings. Can someone reccomend good places in Patts that are 1) value for money i.e costs and 2) quality 3) where they are and are they all day breakfasts or only to a certain time.

    Many thanks

  14. Hi am looking to go to Pattaya for about 3-4 days next Month - looking to go Monday back Thursday and was wandering if someone knew or had stayed in something nice but not expensive - not looking for a resort but maybe a nice guest house not to far walk from the beach and not in a noisy area - my GF is trying to persuade me to take her mother and maybe her dog so if its pet friendly even better if not thats not an issue. Not sure what budget I have in mind but everyone seems to be saying Pattaya is quiet and hopefuly take advantage of some deals that can be found - hence nice friendly guest houses - ps not interested if they are close to the night life as dont want to be surrounded by ladies of the night in the GH!!! - any info would be appreciated. does any one know which is the best website just for guest houses in Pattaya?

    regards

    dave

Daft question if you don't know your own budget.

The dog could be tied to a post and will have great fun - well, the locals will.

  16. glad to see that some guys obviously been here to long and nothing better to do than respond with juvenile comments - still am sure they wake up in the morning and read and think god not another one!!!

Hello we are in Thailand !!! different people come to Thailand for a variety of reasons mostly fun and not to take things to serious!!! however maybe when you settle you become cynical about why Thailand atracts tourists rather than people who take joy in reading bogs all day and nothing better to do

Before you all jump and down my fortune teller predicted this

    hohoho

    thanks anyway

  17. I have a friend coming over to Thailand and my GF has suggested she goes to see a fortune teller while she is in Bangkok, which my friend is happy to do. However she would like to see one who speaks good english as my GF might not be able to translate all or maybe leave a few things out !!! Someone suggested that a few weeks back there was an article in the Bangkok Post highlighting a Fortune teller near Sliom Road.

Can someone confirm this or maybe suggest another FT in Bangkok that someone has used and where and what time they operate

    many thanks

    Dave

  18. 77 people have read this and nobody knows where to get a rugby jersey in Bangkok?

I bought a Thai rugby jersey in a shop on soi Sukamvit near Nana Station - good quality - you came down the steps and the shop is near i think turn left but not far cant miss it - not sure if it sells new SA shirts but if you show them picture am sure they can get one for you

    Hope this helps

Any information would be appreciated - also do they have the equivelent of Ladies Day / Grand National / Derby day

    Many thanks

  20. I know this was raised in August 2008 but that was almost a year ago and i think the authorities have tightened regulations and most parks do not allow dogs. Can we start this up again as I would like to know where we can take our dogs for exercise, fun etc. I live in soi 14 Chaeng wattana and though can take the dog around the lake all the nice parks within a 15 min drive state no dogs which is a shame. Can we build up a site where members can list parks which are dog friendly and not just in the centre of BGK but throughout the city as many of us live outside the centre.

Please state park where it is and how big and how to get there would be usefull I think

  21. A few years back i backpacked through Vietnam and fell in Love with Hoian and vowed to return. In November my GF and I are spending a week in Hanoi - and doing the usual things in and around the city. But would love to take my GF to hoiann for a few days - I realise its a bit of a trek and can be complted by overnight train but am having difficulty finding sites which can give me accurate info on how to get there from Hanoi and time scosts etc. I would plan to get the overnight train stay 2 days and get the overnight train back to Hanoi. Can anyone help me out with info sites where i can get good info

Or as I suspect a bit to far!!

    many thanks

  23. so you are flying all the way in to BKK to eat farang food with farangs to watch farang tv with farang rock with a farang bevrage called cider? <deleted> is cider?

    I guess its all possible

Does it seem so bad that on a few occasions i would want to go and watch sport with other falangs - take my GF to a pub to listen to rock music and find a place that serves my favourite tipple cider - or do you expect everyone who moves and lives in Thailand to totally absorb the Thai way of life !!! I think not
