  1. As said the basic rate only covers the room, everything else is extra. That is their business model.

For information I believe this is the basic room without extras......

Sorry i must have missed something and yes I have read my request again I was asking about car parking

i AM WELL AWARE OF THEIR POSITION ON CHARGING FOR AC ETC BUT NOWHERE ON THEIR WEBSITE DOES IT INDICATE EXTRA FOR CAR PARKING AND MY REQUEST WAS FOR SUITABLE PLACES CLOSE BY

Thank you though for your suggestion and may I make one for you ? you seem to have to much time on your hands so maybe get yourself a job or hobby mm you have one it seems !!!!

  2. My wife booked us to come down to Patts with some friends this weekend staying at the Tune Hotel. It is a budget hotel on the north end of Soi 2. We had to confirm this morning and were told that if we want to park at the hotel it is 300baht - and wait for it if we go out and come back we have to pay an additional 200baht each time we go out and return!!!

Blimey I have stayed in the Dusit Thani hotel and they dont charge for car parking so my question is

Is there anywhere safe and secure where i can leave my car- the area is close to Big C and Tiffanys cabaret. I thought about leaving in Central Festival but am unsure if you can leave you car overnight

Any advice or suggestions would be helpful as am not stingy but think it is outrageous that hotels charge to park your own car !!

    thanks in advance

  3. any suggestions for where i Can purchase the above - I used to drink at Soi 8 bar but they no longer serve London pride or Tetleys - so have been going to the Londoner for my fix of bitter which is very good and only 200 baht ( happy hour now 100 b ) from 3pm to 7pm

Are there any other bars in the Bangkok area that serve bitter ( what brands ) and what prices are they normal and happy hour

    Many thanks

  5. Thanks to everyone who replied all good advice and suggestions- we went to Universal Studios a blast and great day with the bonus of Sentosa which was different - Walked a lot around Singapore Raffles, Clarke Quay and Marina Bay - went up to the top of the hotel - blagged our way up and got great views - love to be there for the Grand Prix in Sept !!! Food expensive but went to many Hawkers places in Chinatown and food halls on Sentosa and at Marina bay sands shopping mall - Watched as people paid 100k baht for a Louis Vuiton bag - to much money forgot to bring my passport on the day so couldnt get into casino- Hotel small room and not great but we were out from 8.30 am and returned about midnight each day we were there so that was OK - Missus went shopping got here perfume and so she was happy, she couldnt belive that copying is illegal in Singapore !!! would love to go back and only wish Bangkok would adopt some of the positive things about this city ( safe pavements to walk, people queue ( apart from Chinese and Indian tourists ) clean streets ) not much to ask !!! planning to go back again as Air Asia have deals on at the moment for travel next year

  6. Hello Peeps last year I posted a topic about things to do in Hong Kong not necesary in the GB as the info i got back was 1st class and made my trip worthwhile thought I would do it agin as I am taking the wife to Singapore for 3 days next month.

I have accomodation sorted in Chinatown so am looking for advice on places to eat drink and see - we love hawker street restaurants to expensive hotels and restaurants - also any good bars that do happy hours know beer is expensive there - any advice on places to go gems that are not highlighted in the Guide books - also what about Universal ? value for money ? any off th beaten places for the Mrs to go shopping ? places to Chill ? travel ? told to get a pass at the airport - similar to the one in Hong Kong ? correct ? any places to avoid? many thanks any experiences would be appreciated and the time you take to add is always helpful not just to mme but assume to others who may read

  7. Hi Guys

    Some info please

Am going to Myanmar with my GF at the end of the month for a long weekend out Bgk Friday night to Yangon and return Monday morning.

In the process of getting visas for both of us and would like to know the following.

I have to use crisp US Dollars while in Myanmar - does anyone have recent experience where i can change these when i arrive ? at the airport or in the city ? where ?

Have booked a hotel in the centre next to the temple and need to know how much will a taxi be from the airport ? in US Dollars ? where can i check the Xchange rate ?

Dont intend to venture far but can someone who has been recently give me a ball park figure how much will i need - dont intend to go overboad in restaurants like eating in local places - how much do these cost ?

Plan to go to the temple any idea of costs etc and is there anything else I should see while i am in Yangon for the weekend really only have 2 days and again what are the costs

The reason for my questions is when i normally go away can use atm's to get cash at the airport and know i cant do this hence my enquiry

    many thanks

    Dave

  8. We are off to Hong Kong next Wednesday for 5 days and when we go away we normally leave our dog ( cross between poodle terrier ) with the Mum in Law - however with the current situation in Rangsit as it is ( where she lives ) dont feel its fair to leave the dog with her on this occasion., she has enough on her plate!!! We live near BIG C Changwattana ( Avenue ) and our usual vet, next to Avenue is full, as people are boarding their dogs with the current floods. We are at a loss does anyone know of any places which are safe quality and take care of dogs and are in close proximaty of Soi 14 ( Big C) Changwattana. Names numbers and reccomendations would be appreciated - its important to stress we are looking for places close as we dont want to trapes accross Bangkok .t

  9. Hi thanks for the info the hotel you stayed in Macau was it far from the ferry terminal ? do u know roughly how much a taxi was ? and also to the airport ? how much a taxi ? also as only there one day we intend to arrive around 11am leave our bags and then just have a look around macau - is it easy to get to the main centre sites from the hotel and in the evening again plan to just walk around maybe have a amder into one or two casinos ? how far walking bus taxi much appreciated thank you in advance

    dave

We have just come back from a similar trip save that we flew in and out of Macau, and took a day trip to Hong Kong, basically because we wanted to take cable car to Po Lin Monastery, we enjoyed our day there very much. We actually purchased a one day tourist ticket in Hong Kong, but as others have said an Octopus Card gives you more flexibility and you can get your deposit back.

Enjoyed Macau very much though whilst you are not going to get a lot of time there it is pretty small. Where are you thinking of staying, the Casino hotels are massive and very smokey, we stayed at a government hotel that is actually a training centre for new hotel managers it was brilliant http://www.ift.edu.m...a/eng/index.htm we were there for four nights last week, I suppose for one night your accomodation is not too important, the benefit of casino hotels is that they have free shuttles to and fro the ferry terminal and the airport.

Wine in Macau is far cheaper than Thailand, it's just a pity you are only allowed to bring one litre into Thailand.

  10. Thanks for this - just checked Oct good time to go clear skies so yes early morning visit up the peak

I split my time between HK and BKK. Not so many ideas on tourist stuff but a couple of points.

The Peak is really nice early in the morning, before the busloads of mainland tourists descend, following around their flag waving guides. It's still a great view in the evening as well, but the tram is crowded and there can be a wait.

Easy and cheap to get to anywhere in HK on transit. Octopus is worth it if you plan to move around. Trams are great at HK$2/ride. (8 baht)

There are hundreds of clubs, it just depends what you are into.

  11. Am flying to Macau end of October and getting ferry to Hong Kong, staying 3 nights then back on ferry to Macau and then 1 day / night fly back Bangers next day.

Have got my accomodation booked on Hong kong and adter some advice on those members who have been to Hong Kong Recently ( my last trip was in 2006 for the rugby sevens ) - this time taking my GF.

travel is it worth getting an Octopus card for 3 days ?

Harbour trips to Aberdeen etc are they worth it any alternatives

Want to go to Lantau ( not disney ) is it easy to get there MRT ? worth spending day there ?

The peak ? best time to go in the day ? can you go up at night ? to see the views?

any reccs on food places to eat like food halls where we can sample local foods

    bars any good reccs ?

    anything to avoid?

Ok also any advice on Macau for 1/2 day evening not booked yet but i know very very expensive

ok thank you all in advance

  12. Last month i travelled to Phuket with my thai GF amd when we came out of the airport we were hounded by taxi hawkers and a police man came along and said to my GF go to the booth at the side of the airport and cheaper - which we did and to patong was 450 baht - it wasant the best car but it was ok the driver was pleasant and didnt drive like a rally driver and dont have to pay any additonal fees so thought was OK

just go out of airport and turn right and walk along for about 5min

  13. Has anyone got any recent experiences getting a 1 year multiple entry non immigrant "O" from Hull / Birmingham? In the past I also used the visiting friends excuse - I do own a condo here now so have the deeds available but no wife ! thankfully.

I just got mine from Hull using over 50 and showing £900 p.m. income.

  15. I am travelling back to the UK in the next few weeks and will be getting a new multi entry 1 year Immigration O Visa from Hull Consulate. My question has anyone applied for this visa recently and was the services as quick as it used to be turnaround 1 day and any new issues or things i should be aware of before applying. I am 51 and have been living in Thailand 3 years this will be my third O visa on my current passport. Many thanks Dave

  16. Am flying to Phuket in late July for a 3 day break and decided as have nevr been before to stay in Kho Lak. Am going with the missus and my question is can anyone reccomend a nice beachfront hotel. I realise it is the low season and it will be quiet but thats not a problem though i dont want a hotel that is to remote as we do like to go out in the evenings for food and maybe a drink. I think well hire a bike for a day or so and explore the national park so any reccs would be appreciated. Also will be gettinga taxi from teh metered office to the right as you come out of the office any idea how much this would cost ?

I have checked on Agoda and there are many good deals to be had just looking to see if tehre any good reccs out there.

  17. Hi

  18. Am going to Penang middle of May and need to know best option for changing money1) take baht and change at airport ( Bangkok or Penang )2) Take baht and change in Georgetown ? ( better rate )3) Use my card and withdraw from ATMmy last trip to Bali was advised to change money at Bali airport and was fleeced ( rate compared to Kuta varied by almost 40%)

  19. Having posted the original message thought i would add my comments having just returned. Glad weI went but would not return, found the beach dirty and my missus was hassled all the time by the locals though she gave as good as she got as her English is good. Found the food bland though did eat a lot of English food while I was there which was nice - a couple of nice day trips to the hills and some great sunsets. I think living in Thailand we are spolit in terms of costs service and quality. Susrprised to be charged 150,00-rp departure tax including the missus but hey it was a nice visa break but would always reccommend Thailand over Bali - our next visa run is Penang in 90 days so am looking forward to that.. The Yulia Beach Inn hotel where we stayed was good and near the beach at Kuta and at 1200baht a night was the only real bargain.

  20. Recently i read a report on the stray dogs on Kuta. Many of them have Rabies. There have been 40 attacks so far this year with 28 rabie infections. So please beware of stray dogs. And do get your Anti Rabie injections bdfore you go

  21. Many thanks the immigration office at Laksi is only 10 min on a bike from my home so seems to be easiest solution

miscalcualted when i booked my trip which i did before my last visa run to cambodia

It seems like you will have a three day overstay not two, so the fine will be 1,500 baht.

Why are you calculating your 90 days, the stamp in your passport says exactly when you have to leave?

    Sophon

Personally I would get a 7 day extension at immigration for 1,900 baht and avoid the overstay stamp in your passport. While such a stamp doesn't seem to be a problem at present, you never know what might happen in the future.

    Sophon

  22. Anyone been to Bang Saen for the day ?

advice on how long take to drive on Sunday morning am leaving Rangsit about 8am I reckon will arrive before 10am

Looking to spend time on the beach ? any reccomendations on where is the best spot for chilling on a chair under an umbrella

Parking is it a problem ? can you park on the seafront?

    any nice places to eat

    many thanks

    Dave
