I was in Phuket last year and the island is now one big garbage heap, people seem to keep on traveling to Phuket but it was such a pale shadow of what it was when I was last there 10 years ago. It was absolutely overflowing with low end Malaysians, Arabs, Indians and especially the spectacularly unpleasant Russians, no thanks I never need to go back.

The traffic was an abomination, everything was overpriced, Bangla Road was utterly horrific with barely an attractive woman in sight, and the entire place just reeked. No wonder Phuket is having so many problems.

Why anyone even wants to go there anymore is a puzzle.  I have Thai friends who ran small businesses there move out because they can't stand it either.

Worries about abduction might not be the only reason for favouring Japan as a destination over Thailand. I went to Japan for holiday a few times recently and it was such a pleasure breathing fresh, clean air. I could clearly see Mt. Fuji from Tokyo, a few hundred kms away. The Japanese respect laws, don't throw trash everywhere, don't burn fields, and they recycle. I love Thailand, but those are clearly areas for major improvement if Thailand wants to attract quality tourists.

I was thinking the same thing, and agree.  👍

Is this NOT what the Thai Government wanted? free visa, talk of lifting the BAN on ALCOHOL SALES, To get more tourists in and get them happy drunk. then complain that only BAD FARANGS.coming to THAILAND.

Yeah, what they really want is for tourists to come to Thailand, rent a expensive hotel room, only come out of the room to eat an expensive meal, go to a designated ATM machine set up by the Govt, deposit a few thousand baht, then go back to the hotel and back to your room.  Easy Peasy money.

On the face of it no Buddhist precept broken. Must be more to this story.

Except, being photographed with the girl cheek to cheek, really no precept broken, but the Monks do have a rule about being alone with a woman.. although not sure they were alone.  But again, was he a monk when this photo was taken.
