  1. I fully agree with the OP's comments. In all the years I've needed to visit Jomtien Immigrations, they have been quite efficient and courteous,

whether for the 90-day report or visa renewal.

Residents and tourists in Pattaya and Jomtien are fortunate!

Yet, I often hear friends having complaints of slowness and problems with the immigration services in BKK and some other provinces.

I think time of year is a factor also. I did my visa extension last year in March. It was incredibly busy and was actually turned away when I tried to get my multi-entry permit as I wasn't traveling within the next week.

  2. And to those in another thread who said the US wouldn't do any thing for Japan...

Hmm... Ran some B52's through there without permission huh? No one lays a glove on Japan or S. Korea or The Philippines or Australia, NZ.... Not so sure about Thailand which likes China. It can keep China.

China perceives Obama as weak and is testing him. The US simply can't, if only for economic reasons, let Japan down.

I read today that the treaty the US signed with Japan obligates the US to protect them. Have you read about this?

  3. I did my mothers yearly visa extension a few weeks ago. Went in around 10:30 and was out well before 11. Came back at 2PM to pick up the new visa.

For 90 day reports, I've found afternoons midweek are the best. 5 minutes in and out.

Glad it worked out for you also!

  4. I hate Chuwit with a passion for what he instigated 10+ years ago without any real consequences on Sukhumvit, before he even became a MP.

I personally knew someone who committed suicide because of his actions.

There is always an ulterior motive with this man.

Do you also know the full story? or is it what you heard from someone about someone who told someone?

The full story is out there Lemoncake.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuwit_Kamolvisit

In January 2003, Chuwit was accused of having hired some 600 men to raze several bars, shops, a laundry and a travel agency on "Sukhumvit Square", a plot of land he owns at Sukhumvit Soi 10. This was an apparent attempt to remove the low rent tenants so the land could be developed. The tenants had been led to believe they had valid leases from another company and were not notified of the raid, which took place very early on a Sunday morning. Chuwit was arrested and spent a month in jail. He denied responsibility and was finally released on bail.

It's been some time, obviously, but I use to go there almost every day around this time. I knew the owner of an internet cafe there and use to play pool at one of the bars in the early afternoons. I was there the day before and there the day it was demolished. It was horrible.

From my hazy memory, somebody was subletting without Chuwit's permission. Everybody had been warned, but they believed it was OK as this other person promised them he had a contract. Which he didn't. Warnings were given, but nobody heeded them.

A dastardly act for sure. The guy who owned the internet cafe lost everything. The army guys retreated to their base so they wouldn't be arrested. I remember the police waiting outside the gates to arrest the guy in charge of the crew. Horrible.

  6. Could be they tightened visa requirements? I'm pretty sure they did that for travelers a year or so ago. Much more difficult now to get a visa than it was in years past. At least from what I've read.

Here in Thailand, it's super easy for "Russians" to get a visa. And as we know, Utapao airport just south of Pattaya is where all the chartered jets land. I heard you can get a return flight with 6 nights hotel for $500 or so from various parts of the former USSR. Definitely not attracting quality tourists.

  7. A few posts have been removed from view. Please remember the pinned topic in the news forum:

Many people have been losing their posting rights or receiving suspensions because they continue to make comments on the Monarchy, and members of the Thai Royal Family in a political context. This is in violation of Thai law which explicitly states that The Monarchy is above politics.

    - Do not make any accusations about any individual's or groups' loyalty toward The Monarchy.

    - Do not speculate on the opinions of any member of The Royal Family.

    - Do not discuss succession or speculate on the future of The Monarchy.

This includes hinting at, joking about, or using innuendo about the above, or referring people to outside information containing such things.

While we do not wish to needlessly restrict discussion of current events in Thailand, it's necessary that we put the above restrictions in place to ensure that local laws and customs are honoured, and the forum remains a viable news source for Thailand's expat community.

You may see some news articles referring to such things, but remember that they have expensive legal teams that vet the quotations first, and you/we don't.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

  8. Lots of great recommendations here. I'd also recommend Wendy House. Near MBK mall and very reasonable. Close to BTS also.

OP: Please reply back with your budget, do you want to party or just visit tourist sites, etc.

Let's try this over in the Bangkok forum. Topic Moved.

  9. I think what he means is there's no direct access to one of the major oceans. Thus, no real waves for surfing. Unlike in many other countries where waves have thousands of miles to build up power.

If you look at a map, you'll see Thailand is relatively well protected by various land masses on both sides.
