  1. Thanks Guys

comments are appreciated. I probably don;t have a problem with the limited service on the flight and can be fairly self sufficient given the rules about what can be taken on board. Their planes have always appeared comfortable and clean and staff have been good in my limited experience. It will mean a flight to Christchurch and a delay or stopover in KL for onwards to CNX but maybe that i itself is a good experience. I will report after the flight for others

    Cheers

  2. HI

Looking at flights to Thailand and Air Asia look good on price.

They have two options for me. Christchurch to Thailand via KL and Melbourne to Thailand via KL. Either way would be ok for me

I don't mind a bit of a delay and happily understand you don't get the bells and whistles but I wondered if anyone had any experience of these two routes, or Air Asia long haul.

I have flown with Air Aisa internally and been pretty happy so far.

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I think I understand but the software I am using gives me a number of optionsthanks in advance

  4. I am trying to learn some thai and using online facilities along with a phrase book. The stuff I am doing is very simple but I want to us it to learn more.

I want to address a friends son 'BEW' but do not know how to create the name correctly in thai script. Help would be appreciated.

Also, the western words such as 'your' appear to relate to 'of you' in thai.

For example, instead of saying 'your mother' I believe it would be correct to say 'mother of you'. Would this be correct? The sentence would read 'it is my wish to take care of your mother' How would this sentence correctly be written in thai script

    thanks

  5. Can someone please help me with a phrase to indicate the word 'indigenous' or similar.

Circumstances are that I sent a photo of my daughter (European decent) who lives in New Zealand along with her partner who is Maori to a Thai friend.

The reply was that my daughters partner can not be from New Zealand because of his race.

I am trying to explain that he is Maori and as such is indigenous or native.

I found one or two words which I thought would explain but they did not clearly hit the spot. A simple sentence would be wonderful

    thanks heaps

  6. Bringing this thread back to the original posting.

It took a few emails and reminders, but Air Asia made the refund to my credit card with a message of apology for it taking so long.

A bit of effort from me in making contact but full marks to them for making the payment, I had written it off.

  7. As the author of the first translation above, I would say that Yoot's rendering in Thai is superior to mine. It's just a bit more exact and, my guess is, to a native speaker, would read more naturally. The first translation is accurate (except for my confusing ข่วน with ควนwub.gif but Yoot's is better.

Thank you for this guys, much appreciated

  8. Maybe calling them is better than e-mail. If issue is not resolved you have 60 days to FIle a dispute with your credit card company.

Thanks for that. I just know the issues I faced taying to call them and even discuss with them when I was in an AIR ASIA country. Now back in New Zealand it would be a nightmare.

I doubt the dispute would hold water as all payments were authorised by me. It was just that they agreed to refund if I bought a third ticket so I think there would be little the card company could actually do

    thanks anyway

  9. Is there anyone who can create a phrase for me, in thai script, to denote the following words/intention for the phrase in English.

"Every decision we make has consequences. Some consequences are good and some are not good. We need to consider all consequences when we make decisions, not simply take the good and ignore the bad."

The background is a debate I am having with someone who has made a certain decision in life. This decision may bring them some financial advantage for now but the downside is they stand to lose a very good opportunity for the future by going ahead. i am attempting to get them to look at the bigger picture before committing to the venture.

    Thanks heaps

  10. I know it is unlikely to get anywhere but I am trying to get some action out of Air Asia.briefly, they replaced a ticket purchased online where the name was incorrect (I booked two seats for my wife rather than one for each of us). They agreed to refund one and I bought a new one for me alone. The refund has never hit my credit card and I have now sent three e-mails to customer services with no reply to any.I am looking for an alternate email address, possibly a complaints departmentany ideas?

  11. you will get nowhere at RCA unless you have some orange hair dye, lowered honda jazz and a teener in your back pocket.

better to walk outside and turn left and hit up the Love Boat. its a sure thing!

If you already have Company, then Hollywood is fun, but dont show up alone.

Alas, at 54 I don't have enough hair to dye and I wouldn't even know what a teener is.

    I am alone.

    Thanks for all the input

  12. I wonder if this thread will eventually qualify for the longest thread without an answer to the question :)

Just reading an information site and it refers to entertainment areas, bars etc along New Petchuburi Road and in the sois between there and Sukhumvit. I know where New Petchuburi Road is, any ideas on options around there?

  13. If you can afford the Radisson I'm sure you can splurge for a taxi.

It isn't about cost or whether or not I can afford a taxi. I want to explore a new area and am looking for information on where I am staying. If I was worried about taxi fare I would have stayed exactly where I was last time, and the time before, and the time before that.

Interestingly, Radisson just cost me 65USD a night which I don't think it too out of the way at all.

    Cheers

  14. I haven't been through HK in years, even tho my brother lives there... for some reason I always choose to stop over in BKK :):D:D

If you are getting the British Pounds or Euro in NZ, give her some of them, you might find some of the chain food stores will accept Pounds, Euro, or USD, but unlikely they will take NZD...

Failing that, just add the $5-10 Money exchange fee to the cost of the burger...

    Cheers,

    Daewoo

I have a few USD left from a trip a few years ago, maybe I'll just give those to her and she can either pay with them or exchange. Leaving sunday, catch you on the other forum

  15. I have four nights in the Raddisson next week. It looks to be a bit out of the way. Previous visits I have stayed around Sukhumvit areas so am well aware of the nightlife in those areas. I am keen to look elsewhere for a change and wondered if there are any suitable areas close to where I will be staying.

I am not bothered about go go bars as such, but do like bars with a bit of life and a few pretty girls to chat with, play pool etc. Not into loud discos, just good honest fun in a bar. maybe some live music if such a thing exists around there.

I am happy to get taxi to wherever if I have to but would appreciate any local knowledge

    cheers

  16. Apologies for posting non Thai related question but hopefully you travellers will have the answer.

I am routing through Bkk to London however my 21 year old daughter is flying Cathay through Hong Kong to meet me in London. She has a few hours in Homg Kong transit and I am asking about currency issues. She does not have a credit card although she has a NZ Bank Debit card. It would be nice forher to have the ability to buy a drink or food or something there however I am not too usre of her best way to pay for it.

The cards attract fees for small transactions as far as I know so cash would be prefererable.

I have obviously New Zealand dollars. Do they take NZ dollars for such purchases.

I also have a few US dollars I can give to her, do they take those

If not what advice about exchanging small amount into HKD, fees etc.

any other bright ideas as to how to tackle this. I appreciate that for many of us this is a small issue, but I am always trying to teach my daughters to consider costs in any transaction, however small, hence the query

    cheers

  17. In my experience, when a poster responds by attacking the grammar or spelling it is an indication that they have lost the argument. Ofte happens in internet forums where debate it taking place and the spelling is attacked.

I forget the actal name but there was a well known 'internet law' which the receiver of the correction was permitted to invoke given the fact that their spelling had been corrected and therefore by default, had won the argument. The other part of the law extended to being called a nazi, that had the same effect of winning the argument.

    Hope this helps

  18. the arrogance of Abhisit seems to know no bounds (there has to be dissolution. an election soon which the democrats would clearly lose as with every election since around 2000), the current govt was cobbled togther through a judicial coup and the bribery intiumidation of the chidchob faction (they were kept locked up in a hotel to vote Abhisit into power) - the question is what end game the govt and the privy council are playing and whether there will be an election at all,

    Usual Thaksin apologist misrepresentation.

Not one of the Thaksin governments was formed without a cobbled together coalition.

There will be an election but hopefully without the green light for Thaksin's electoral corruption.

Bribery intimidation? Thaksin knows all about that.

Not that you would question anything your hero does.

Thaksin can rot in hel_l for all I care. Please do not assume I support Thaksin. Read what was posted. No misrepresentation here. You do not challenge the facts but simply say that Thaksin did the same thing. Two corrupt leaderships.

I support true democracy. No more than that.

  20. On further thought, I re-read your initial post

We are told, by the insurance company that we got through Thai Visa that this is a 'natural disaster' and not covered, while ''serious weather conditions' are.

Unpalatable as it may be, we have to remember the spirit intended when these policies are created. The 'serious weather conditions' aspect is more than likely designed to cover the more frequent occurances where flights are delayed or diverted due to adverse weather conditions. This will be why there is a distinction between 'weather' and 'natural disaster' and why such incidents as the Iceland volcano would specifically be excluded.

  21. Bottom line is that if your policy excludes 'natural disaster' then you will not be covered. There are definitions of natural disaster including extreme weather conditions but normal weather would usually be covered. The 'wather' was not extreme (hurricane, tornado etc)

This was not an extreme weather condition by any stretch of then imagination. Common sense states that extreme weather conditions would be covered as they are not normal and totally unforseen. The basis behind insurance is to protet against the unforseen circumstance. The 'weather' did not contribute to the flight delays as without the Volcanic eruption, the weather would not have any effect on the continuation of the flights.

Act of God - n. a natural disaster such as a tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, wildfire, tornado or hurricane.

As if anyone needed a definition - following such catastrophic events such as the tsunami in South Asia, the hurricane hit U.S. Gulf states, or the devastating earthquake in Pakistan - an "act of God" is a disaster no one can prevent.

Seriously, don't waste your time or energy chasing this. If natural disaster is excluded then learn from this and get a decent cover next time which does not exclude it. I do sympathise but also understand insurance law intimately.
