  1. It strikes me that an exclusion for natural disaster = crap product. Standard travel insurace here (New Zealand) does not exclude natural disaster and I would not be purchasing one anywhere in the world that did.

My own insurers are looking after ther clients well here. The main thing to remember is that clients need to mitigate losses as much as is possible. This being done, claims are being made in full.

  2. What type and make of cards do you want? There are so many. I am from NZ but live here. Generally, prices here are way below what you would pay back home.

Thanks, I didn't know there were different types. I have just been told it takes a standard class 6 SDHC card. It came with Transend 32 Mb but that isn't big enough. If prices are usually better there I can takle the unit shopping with me I guess

    Cheers

  3. You could check in online and print your boarding pass, I think you can do it 24 hours before the flight.

You can then go to the bag drop near the check in desks, might save a bit of time. I suppose there could be a problem if your international flight is delayed and you miss the flight.

I was a bit unsure about the online check in as I understand Air Aisa are a bit perculiar about baggage allowances. I have pre booked 20 Kg from memory but didn't want any agro at check in.

    thanks to both who replied

  4. HI

I arrive in Bkk shortly on an international flight. I am to transfer to an Air Asia flight to Chiang Mai and it is the last flight of the day.

In case of delays on the internaitonal, and baggage collection, immigration etc, I am wondering about finidng the domestic check in at the airport. I have been before and after customs I have walked out to the public area. I presume that I then have o go and check in again somewhere and end up back airside.

I am just a bit concerned due to my flight being the last of the day to CNX. No delays and all should be well, but all the same can anyone advise me on the process and directions to check in for Air Asia to CNX

    thanks

  5. Hi guys

I am due to visit Thailand soon for annual motorcycling trek around the North. I want to buy either a couple of 16gb cards or a 32Gb card for my Tachyon helmet camera.

Doing pricing here in New zealand, decent cards seem a bit costly but it may be no better or worse than Thailand. I will be in Bangkok for four days so am happy to go MBK or wherever.

Does anyone have knowledge of the cost of these cards in bangkok so I can make my decision on whether to purchase before I leave New Zealand or not

    Thanks

  6. On a previous visit to Bangkok I went to the palace and did the tourist thing one afternoon. I went by tax and actrually don't really know where I went in geographical terms.

In June, I want to visit again but have limited time. My wife and i arrive in Bangkok by train from Chiang Mai one evening and the following afternoon we need to go to the airport to fly out of Thailand. We will essentially have one morning free through to around 2 pm

    My questions are:

Is the palace open to visitors in the mornings, and if so any idea what time.

Where is the palace situated (general area) so that I can book a nice hotel close by (rather than the dingy dumps i tend to stay in when I travel on my own)

    Thanks

  7. HI

My wife and I are flying out of Bkk in June. She flies to UK and I fly to New Zealand. My flight is with Qantas and I leave at 6 pm or close to. Her flight is with Thai and she doesn't leave until around 1am the following morning.

This gives around 7 hours between flights. It would be great to go through the check in procedure with her and be sure she is through immigration with me and into the airside of the airport before I leave.

Does anyone know if early check in is permitted at Bkk if flying with Thai airways? I would like her to check in when I do, so that would be around 4 pm and with a 1 am flight I am concerned it wouldn't be allowed

    any ideas?

    Thanks

  8. It's a shame something as worthwhile as this thread doesn't receive any attention. I guess 'burgers' or 'pizza' should have been in the header.

Good to see people doing something that really benefits their community. Well done and good luck guys.

These guys work really hard and I know from experience they do make a difference to some sections of the communities. Limited resources as always but with best use of those resources and huge hearts, this is a day not to be missed for sure. I strongly urge anyone able to attend, to do so.

Why not hire a bike for the day and go along too.

  10. Thanks for explaining, I assumed that meanings and words were interchangable between language. Now I understand.

I guess the phrase I have so far focuses on the aspect of making the most of today, rather than being grateful for what we have and not taking life for granted. It is also quite long which was why I had chosen the original words. I wanted to focus more on gratefulness rathe than making the most of today.

Maybe something will come to me if i think hard enough

    Thank you again

  11. Things that make this translation difficult:

    Grateful to who?

    A gift from who?

    Thanks for your reply.

I heard a speaker at a recent conference (medical profession) who reminded us that each day is not guaranteed. When we wake up, perhaps to give thanks for another day. Thanks to who? I guess that depends on your beliefs but the concept was to be grateful for another day as it is a gift and not guaranteed or ours as of right.

I want to have it tattooed when I am next in Thailand this year so for obvious reasons wanted the sentence concise.

This is the closest I have gotso far but it is not truly reflective of the meaning

    ทำวันนี้ให้ดีทีสุด เพราะ เราไม่รู้ว่าจะมีวันพรุ่งนี้หรือเปล่า

Thanks for your input, it is appreciate

    Thanks for your input.

  12. I am due back again soon for my tour of the North on motorbike. Last time I was able to order food by pointing and gesturing but would really lik to know the thai tems for the most commonly sered food so I can orer myself. I am talking specifically about the little roadside places rather than the official cafes and restaurants with menus.

I have Kow Pad and the various meat/fish to go into it. The other comon one i liked to eat was a noodle dish, almost a soup with a few little round balls of something or other thrown in. What is that called please and are there variables of it to ask for?

    Thanks in anticipation

  13. HI

Thanks for that, looks to be a good option. the first bus (according to web site) leaves Chiang Mai at 6 30 then hourly after that. You appear to be a local, is the walk from the drop off point reasonable? I don't want to start the experience with a huge hill climb :)

Other alternative was to visit Lampang the day before (never been there) and make my way from lampang first thing in the morning. Would there be transport from Lampang early enough and is Lampang acool place to visit overnight?

    Help is appreciated

  14. Always managed to be pretty regular so my daily evacuation is early morning when I first wake up. Followed by a shower of all the important little places. That said, I have tried the gun on each occasion I have been to thailand and failed miserably. Either missed entirely, hit the sack from behind or worse, the accidental colonic irrigation.

What strategy is generally followed, directed from front, back or straight upwards.

Back again soon an ill give it another go

  15. Can anyone suggest a reasonable taxi fare from Chiang mai to the Elephant Conservation centre outside Lampang? Going to stay there for three days but need to be there by 8 30 am. I guess I just organise wth a taxi sirecly but some indication on what would be reasonable would be helpful

    Thanks

  16. http://www.theatlantahotelbangkok.com/

That's my favourite on Sukhumvit, although I could not tell you about Internet access, although I could only afford the upstairs rooms, a/c, CWS, which were around 550thb + 50 thb vat or therebouts if I remember September 2006. The first storey was for the more salubrious rooms with all the HBO and added extras, although there's a VERY stric policy on late night visitors; basically do not monger there.

It's the street up from Nana through the Rajah Hotel carpark to Sukh. Soi 2 and it's down at the south-west end next door to the Calvery Baptist church, so you won't have too far to travel on Sunday mornngs 9-).

It's got a fairly interesting history that you might want to read up on at their website or in the Lonely Planet. There must be hundreds of 600 thb/night w/air rooms around this end of Sukhumvit, but the Atlanta has a bit of charm about it IMHO.

Pretty blunt sort of Caveat there.

If there is the slightest chance of entertaining at the hotel, best book elsewhere!

  17. My wife arriving in Bkk from Auckand at 9 30 pm and will need to stay over night to catch next day flight to Chiang Mai. What is th best and safest way for her toarrange transfer to the Convenient Resort please. Does she queue up outside for the usual organised taxi service, does she take one of the offers within the terminal. Advice appreciated. It is her first time there alone

    Thanks heaps
