Rumours is the one I buy, the red. Pretty decent to my uneducated palate.

It is any wonder that any Thai 'qualifications' are not trusted by overseas universities or companies? I believe that US universities insist that Thais take an entrance exam, no matter if they 'appear' to be qualified.

And I know a secretary who worked for a prestigious school in Sydney at which a couple of Thai brothers were studying. They failed their exams, insisted they be given passes otherwise Daddy would remove them and their fees from the school, and the school waved them goodbye.

My wife also studied at a Bangkok university to teach English. She showed me an exam paper she was given, and on just one page there were around 15 errors. I corrected the paper, she gave it to the professor, who simply threw it in the bin.

Correct - I have tried both, and LSD could give you a mind blowing trip "up" or "down", and after one trip "down" I never took it again! I did carry on with the cannabis for quite a few years though with no ill effects (apart from the occasional "whitey"!) Comical true life scenario:-

Guy lying on the floor in my flat having an aforesaid "whitey" says:-

"Call me an amblumance, mate - I don't feel so good"

His mate says "OK, you're an amblumance!"

(Shrieks of hilarity from the other 3 or 4 of us indulging in "the munchies"

(Items in inverted commas can be explained on request! 🙂 )

Many people have that kind of exchange with no help from narcotics 😄

The best advise is to shop around, as it's often up to the branch-manager to decide, if the branch will open an account for a foreigner.

Yes. And if the person at the desk says 'Cannot" then ask to see the manager. I had a branch refuse even to give me a new passbook where I happened to be in one part of Bangkok, saying I had to go to my own branch. There wasn't time that day so I asked to see the manager and he okayed it. They can do things if they want to, but sometimes don't know how so tell you it's impossible. Often, it isn't. Just one of the pleasures of trying to achieve anything here.

The move will see cannabis flowers and extracts containing more than 0.2% THC being categorised alongside other banned drugs, while branches, stems, roots, leaves, and seeds will remain exempt from this classification.

So weed will be illegal. except when it isn't. Okay. I confess to being ignorant about stems and roots and so on as I've never tried it, despite being a teenager in the 60s. Beer or wine or a G&T with ice and a slice always did it for me. Cannabis has been banned wherever I have lived or travelled, so I was never drawn to try it when legal stuff was available. The only thing that did tempt me was LSD, but you're never sure what reaction you're going to have with that. Can be scary.

    Ok Dad.

where does it say it was after midnight?

Second paragraph. Maybe you didn't read that far. Glad to assist.

Authorities were alerted to the scene shortly after midnight, arriving to find a harrowing sight.

If you want to be sarcastic then better to check what you're reading first.

The sad thing is that there are so many other places/areas in Bangkok that could suffer the same fate at any time. This isn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last. Can anything be done about it? Probably not, except raze entire neighborhoods, and even many of the residents would prefer to stay where they are.

Great to see the community pulling together. Reminds me of what I saw when I happened to be in London when the Grenfell fire happened. I went there 36 hours later expecting to spend 10 minutes and was there for over two hours. A photo is said to be worth 1000 words, but nothing can prepare you for the reality. It literally took my breath away. People still wailing, some sitting in silent reflection, so many helpers providing food and clothing. It's something I'll never forget. I imagine it was the same in this case, although no-one died this time.

I think it's amusing that Thailand, which forbids any form of gambling, is talking - yet again - about opening casinos. Of course - yet again - the talk will go away when those in the shadows, who run the illegal casinos, remind those who threaten their income and pretend to condemn the illegal casinos also benefit greatly from them, with some law enforcement personnel even working for them in their spare time, as well as having the places hidden behind closed doors on speed dial to warn of any unwelcome visitors in uniform on their way.
