  1. As someone mentioned in a previous post the Thai lawyer was banging the foreigner's live-in Thai girlfriend in his house....but still no reason to take another man's life. If this had happened to me I would have thrown them both out of the house - with a harsh warning - and then proceeded to get blind drunk myself until at least the following morning or the day after or whenever my emotions had subsided. But - I guess - it's easy to offer up advice when you're not emotionally involved yourself.

  2. Unfortunately, it is probably pervasive throughout Thailand. A friend of mine lived in an apartment complex and right next to it there was a private one street housing complex. He used to walk up and down the street at night. Now, there is both a gate and a sign that says no trespassing but when the gate is open or at night you cannot see it. One night wearing only shorts and a shirt he went walking as usual. As he was walking thru the gate someone grabbed him from behind and refused to let him go. The guy pointed to the sign. My friend read it and apologized and tried to walk away. The guy kept holding him so my friend pushed him away and took off. Just before he tried to enter the parking lot of the apartment complex another guy with a 6 foot cane branch pole ran up to him and attacked him with the pole repeatedly hitting him in the head.

Keep in mind he was no where near the complex. And not only that but there were half a dozen witnesses to the attack.

Long story short someone called the cops and they took him away to the pd. While there he repeatedly asked for medical attention and was laughed at. The guy who hit him came and all the cops started talking together as if they were all drinking buddies. He was brought before some cop wearing only a t-shirt who spoke no English. The guy who hits my friend says he will translate. The translation was if my friend promises not to walk there again he can go home. My friend wants to file charges so they throw him in another room. Half an hour later two 'tourist police' show up and everyone repeats their story. Both officers were Thais though not farong. The tourist police say he can file charges but he will go to jail for five years for trespassing. In a Western society with a real justice system the Thai guy would have gone to jail for battery or maybe even attempted murder.

My friend finally gets the message and agrees to forget it ever happened. He could have been killed. Someone told him he was lucky he didn't have to pay a lot of money to the guy who hit him for damaging the cane pole. He went to the hospital and had severe lump on his head and a possible concussion.

Under normal circumstances your friend should have been warned and told to leave the housing complex by the security guard(s). No violence - no intimidation and no police. Sounds like it's a closed shop in his neighborhood. And "five years for trespassing"? Laughable. The only criminal charge should have been against the Thai for assault.

  3. Immediate extraction of as much money as fast as possible has quickly become the rule of thumb. Its fueled by lawlessness and greed. Hell the lack of tourists is often used as an "Excuse" for robberies in these parts, it really would be laughable if it wasn't true.

Reading the above article between the lines clearly indicates that they think its the video's fault that tourism will take a hit, not the fact the girl was raped. And while I'm on one, whats with the 2 years court case BS?

Minor traffic violations here and you'll be locked up real quick as a foreigner. Under pay or disagree with a Tuktuk driver and you'll be let off with a physical warning. blink.png

Dual pricing isn't the only issue. There's a completely different set of rules and supposed laws for Thai's and foreigners.

    A truly shocking case.

Can you imagine the furor and uproar if a foreigner had raped a hi-so Thai woman in the province. You can bet Ittirat Kinglek would have been extremely indignant and outraged if the foreigner was released on bail after initially admitting the crime. He would - no doubt - take the line that the court's decision had seriously undermined tourists' confidence in the law being upheld and therefore would have an adverse effect on tourism.

  4. I had a walk around Washington Square last Tuesday afternoon. About half of it has disappeared but the other half still remains. The half that is proximal to Soi 22. I noticed the police at the massage parlour that used to be located on the LHS as you entered the square. There had been a fire there the night before. Extensive damage to the interior. An insurance job?

In the row of shop houses where Texas bar and Square One used to be located - the last two shop houses adjacent to Sukhumvit road are still in tact but gutted. Bourbon Steet is still standing but a total mess inside and The Dubliner is still standing and pretty much looks the same until you peer inside. Took some photos and video which I will post here in the next week or two.

    Yesterday, Threppasit!

What is your picture trying to show us here? Maybe it's just me that doesn't see anything out of the ordinary here.

You really need to enlarge this image to see the girl properly. She appears to be standing on the seat. But doesn't appear to be aligned with the bike and the others seated on it. Like she's stood a little too far to the left. Weird.

  6. QUOTE:"Police were made aware of the men by passers-by who spotted the knives in their possession." For passers-by read plain clothes police. Who else would be so persistent in their intent to report these individuals to the police?

There's a considerable under-cover - plain clothes police presence in Pattaya. Just the other day a Thai woman - Saturday last - a Thai woman walked her dog - several times - around the restaurant/bar my wife and our friends and about twenty other customers were seated in Soi (?) Chalermprakiat. I thought I recognized her as a police officer. Was the dog sniffing for drugs? i had my suspicions but nobody else in the bar seemed to bat an eyelid.

  7. QUOTE:"The former owner of a Beer Bar in Central Pattaya was arrested at his former Bar on Sunday evening, accused of failing to pay his Bar Bill."

For sure there's more to this story than meets the eye. Drinking and getting trashed at his former bar. I would like to hear his story of what caused him to get into this state there and also the story of the current owners for that matter.

  8. I first visited Pattaya in January 1994. And there were far fewer Western women than there are nowadays or Western couples. Far more beer bar centers then on Beach Road and Second Road. Soi LK Metro was just some wasteland and a few shacks etc. A lot more excitement then. A real buzz to the place. Bar girls seemed to want to party hard every night - not just the punters. Pattaya - in the main - seems a lot tamer now.

  9. Thanks for the info everyone.

Really pleased to hear he's still kicking and hasn't passed away. So the new bar (between Sois 2 and 3) is just up from where the old one used to be located.? I remember walking out of the old Yuth's bar and through the beer bar complex into Soi 1.

(Have got photos of the various line-ups at Yuth's going back about ten years. Hope to get them up on Thaivisa soon.)

  10. Does anyone have info concerning Yuth who was shot in the stomach in April 2006. I heard recently that he had passed away and was no longer playing. Recently re-visited the beer bar complex where his bar used to be located (adjacent to Soi 1) and it appears to have been reveloped - although I have learnt subsequently that there is now a Yuth's bar between sois 2 and 3. Is this anything to do with Yuth? Any info. would be much appreciated.

  11. His fight against corrupt police, whatever his personal motivation, is the reason he's gaining popularity with voters upcountry. In the end, corruption in the police force can only be beaten by making the selection process to enter the police force a lot tougher, constant reviews of performance, monitoring and testing of skills, and better pay.

I think his personal motivation is the untold millions in bribes he had to pay to the BIB when he ran his business. It's payback time.

    That's my thinking as well.

  12. I passed by the entrance to this soi - busy road leading to Nakhon Nakorn Road and Big C - Ratburana - this morning at around 10.15 AM. Obviously I had no inkling as to what had occurred there just a few hours previously.

In the early hours of the morning around here - like most other areas in BKK - the normal constraints of law and order that appear to exist during daylight hours go out the window. The motorcycle gangs roam the streets - night-time entertainment venues seem to be a law unto themselves - violence or no violence - up to them on a whim - and the police are all too often exposed as being woefully inadequate - sparse - slow to react - and incompetent in dangerous situations.

  13. So, who is the 'owner' of the land?

QUOTE: "Freedom Beach, which can only be reached by boat, has long had a reputation as “the secret beach you shouldn’t tell anyone else about”.

The visit follows a complaint to the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) last year by a group of people calling themselves The Phuketians. They alleged that the occupier of the land, Pantong Na Ranong, had obtained title to it through "corrupt processes" involving 11 officials. The most prominent name on the list of those allegedly involved is that of former Phuket Governor Wichai Praisa'ngob, whose signature of approval appears on the title deed. Mr Wichai is now the appointed senator for Phuket."
