    Yes

Quote of info on that webpage. "Travel by Sky Train (SRT) : Dark Red Line (Lak Si Station) (Exit 1 or Exit 2)"

Also shown on this map (link on webpage). https://goo.gl/maps/EScEqeak4Psqr59g7

If staying in Bangkok you have to do it there.

You can go to another province and apply if you have proof you are staying that province (TM 30 report from a hotel for example).

    Thank you ????

I had a notion that this was somewhere else completely... Somewhere between Silom and Sathorn... forgot the name of the road... I was there once, the last time I got a visa extension.... many years ago....

I went this morning to get a 30 day extension to my visa-exempt. I just assumed it was done at CW. Wrong! I had to go to the 3rd floor, IT Square Laksi, just a few km from CW. There were two extra forms to fill out when I got there. Simple forms just acknowledging various rules, not much more than a signature. It was an efficient setup with the first desk making sure the paperwork was in order before giving a number to proceed. So, just a heads up if there are other sleepy heads like me thinking of going to CW.

Sorry, what is CW and where did you have to go to get your extension?...

  3. I didn't mean to start a controversy....

I don't like small Thai towns. I was in Chiang Rai once and I fled after two days. As soon as I exited the minuscule town centre I found that there were dogs roaming in the streets. I like to walk around a lot and I'm afraid of stray dogs, so this sort of "experience" is not for me.

I was thinking of travelling to Buriram this winter because I have a Thai acquaintance who lives in the area (outside the city). I don't know if the town is worth the hassle of getting there though. That's why I posted the question. Thank you all for your input ????

The cutes Thai girls are from Buriram province.

But to be fair I am not sure if they are still over there or is they all come to Bangkok and Pattaya.

We visited Phnom Rung on the way back to Bangkok from points farther east. We had wanted to visit for a long time, but were always in too much of a hurry to either get to our destination or back to Bangkok. In June we finally found the time and were pleasantly surprised. There were very few other people visiting, so we had mostly uncluttered views and photo opportunities.

I long ago came to the conclusion that nobody between the ages of 21 and 35 lives in Buriram.

The males all drive taxis in Bangkok, the females are all engaged in various employment fields there.

    Terrible ????

Phanom Rung is good. Burilam isnt. Phimai looks the same and they have hotels there. I would just go Phimai. Bus from Korat. Korat is ok.

Why is Buriram not good? I was thinking of visiting because I have an acquaintance who lives in the area. But I'm not sure the place is worth the hassle of getting there....

Don't walk near the road holding a phone or shoulder bag.

Snatchers on m/c, apart from that no problems.

Load Pass app on your phone for taxi/tuktuk.

Lots of 7-11 style stores around, but limited choices of foods.

    Hmmmmm... ????

    Thank you.

  9. I am considering travelling to Phnom Penh for a few days this winter, mainly for the purpose of exiting Thailand and reentering to get another 45 day visa exemption. I have never been to Cambodia, I don't know what to expect.

Is it safe to walk in the streets? I am very much into walking around and I am interested in Buddhist temples. I don't go out after dark and I'm not interested in nightlife.

How do I get safely from the airport to my hotel and back?

Are there Western-style supermarkets and convenience stores in Phnom Penh? I keep a very restrictive diet for health reasons and I don't eat in restaurants. In Thailand I used to find hard-boiled eggs at 7-11 and cooked meat/fish at supermarkets. Is there anything like that in Phnom Penh?

    Thank you.

IME I have been able to move freely around Thailand without awareness above normal precautions. From the accounts of others, that freedom of movement is much more problematic in the Philippines.

The safest I have ever felt in a foreign country is Japan, one gets the feeling it would be a national shaming if a foreigner was attacked or harassed in any way.

It is possible for a tourist to drift into an area of higher risk without knowing it. I found that out during walking in New York, and suddenly realizing I was the only white face among quite a few black ones. Harlem.

I have not been to Japan, but it's exactly the same in South Korea. Also Taiwan and Singapore.

    Cambodia is fine.

    And yes it's safe.

    Can't compare the two.

Yes you  can obtain second visa exempt entry no problem .

Lot of folk love Phnom Penh.

    Personally prefer Saigon.

Flights to PP and Saigon often very similar.

Siem Reap is a must do for many travellers.

Thank you. I see entry requirements differ for Cambodia and Vietnam.... Vietnam still requiring travel insurance for Covid, as opposed to Cambodia and Thailand who don't.

The onward flight I mention is a flight out of Thailand within the 45 days.

    Any destination is ok.

If required it would be the airline at departure first leg.

Onward flight will not be asked for by immigration upon arrival in Thailand.

Screenshot is fine however why not print out hard copy.

    TM7 is form for extension.

Every entry into Thailand with a tourist visa or visa exempt can be extended by 30 days.

Visa exempt entry after March 31 will provide 30 day stamp and an extension can be obtained.

You are permitted 2 visa exempt entries via land per calendar year.

The trip to Cambodia is via air and not included in the 2 limit (via land)  mentioned earlier.

Is a trip to Cambodia by air a good option? I have never been to Cambodia. If I go to Cambodia for 5-6 days and return to Thailand I can get a second 45-day visa exempt entry? I wonder if Cambodia is safe and how it compares to Thailand ????

Sorry, I don't recall whether hard boiled eggs are commonly available at convenience stores.  There are over a thousand 7-11s in the Philippines, plus Family Marts, Ministops, etc. and also numerous small sari-saris, like a 10x10 foot stall operated as a family business.  I think some of them sell hard boiled eggs or will know of another one nearby where you can get them.   Yes on the imported butter, I took a liking to Lurpak butter which was available in many of the markets as both sticks and single-serve packets.

For a kitchen, there are lots of apartments and condos available for short-term rental (even just one or two days) via Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com etc. and some hotels offer rooms with kitchens, they are called "condotels" there.  Then boiled eggs would be easy. ????And honestly once you can shop in a market and prepare your own food, you won't have any food troubles at all, and in fact the variety and quality of fresh produce available might be a pleasant surprise to you.  Baguio for example has several supermarkets, (SM Market, Robinson's, Savemore), all of which will have a wide variety of local and imported products.  The brands might be different than what you're used to but you should be able to find what you want, plus know for certain what ingredients are used.

For local corned beef the Philippine brand Delimondo seemed to be the best of what I tried, but the New Zealand brand Palm and Australian brand Ox & Palm are top quality and popular there and often available in the larger markets.  On sardines I prefer Portuguese or Moroccan in EVOO, and they are available at larger markets too.  There are many Philippine brands but in my experience they tend to be packed in either tomato sauce or corn oil or soybean oil.

Regarding safety, a condo would probably be safer than an apartment due to on-site security and restricted access past the lobby.  In general an area with a modern condo I think is mostly safe, but as a foreigner you may be hassled by beggars especially small kids running up to you with their hands out.  You get used to just saying no and not stopping or engaging with them in any way.   The main thing to worry about is pickpockets or snatchers targeting a handbag or cell phone, but basic precautions such as not taking more money/cards/ID/extra items with you than you need, and being alert for snatchers both on foot or on motorbikes, the same as in any larger city.  I've visited many times and never had anything stolen, just a few attempted taxi scams overcharging, which is easy enough to avoid once you know about them, it just becomes part of the cultural experience.

Ditto on walking around,  I walk a lot for exercise, but have found that (with some exceptions) cities in the Philippines often have sidewalks that are damaged or obstructed so you have to continually look down for holes or broken patches, and also up for wires or objects you might run into, and often have to step down into the street (and dodge traffic) to get around where someone has put something or even built something out onto the sidewalk.

Can I ask, what are your goals/planned activities for this trip?   Baguio is a good choice (I think, I have not been there but have passed it several times and have heard lots about it), also Cebu.  30 days is a long time.

Thank you for all the information ????????????

My goal is getting away for about 3 months during the winter. I don't like cold weather. I am not yet sure about going to the Philippines. I prefer safer destinations like Malaysia or Thailand.

    Thanks again!!!

I have lived in Asia for 29 years and the only time that I felt scared was in Manila (for an entire week).

The first indication that this place was not safe is how taxi drivers act with street hawkers.

As in many countries in SE Asia, there are street hawkers selling their wares to car drivers/passengers at junctions with traffic lights.

In the poorest areas of Bangkok a taxi driver wouldn't think twice of fully opening the rear windows so that a fare could buy something from the vendors.

In Manila, the taxi drivers would only crack the window open enough to slide the money/goods through the gap, for fear of being robbed.

I was advised by the hotel staff not to go out after dark, even to the 7-11, as "someone might shoot you".

This was the Edsa area in the mid 90s, so I don't know if this is normal all over Manila or if Edsa was just a rough area back then.

Maybe the hotel staff were being over cautious and were alarmists but even without their warning, I never felt safe there.

When I went to other areas of Manila, I was besieged with beggars (men, women and children) and the sheer numbers that surrounded me at times left me feeling nervous that I could get pick-pocketed/mugged at any time.

By the time that I left the Philippines, I was a paranoid wreck.

I swore (and still swear) I would never go back again.

Sounds like India...... Thank you for sharing ????

You can obtain a 30 extension to your 45 day visa exempt extension at immigration office where you are located.

You can exit Thailand and reenter via land (border bounce) or via air and receive another 45 plus that can be extended by 30.

So just there we have 150days.

Regarding on what is required for extensions.......

    TM7 form (with photo)

Some basic copies of passport pages

TM30 which is address notification (hotel can provide that)

    1900baht.

Entering visa exempt via air, the airline at departure may want to see onward flight.

This is discussed in many threads with various options outlined. Not difficult.

    Thank you ????
