  1. A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.

The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders.

They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi.

"We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said.

Mr Alifi, Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat.

"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up".

Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.

"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper. :o

  2. There is no bus to Patong, but there is a bus to Phuket City, infrequently.

Limo from inside airport 550 baht.

Or better still go outside of arrivals. Walk across the car park center left and get a multi coloured Meter Taxi.Easy to spot.,A lot cheaper even though they/you have to pay a small fee on leaving the airport.I think I paid 400 baht in total to Patong in november. :o

  3. Think you have both missed my point. :o

That was part of what I wanted to get away from. I know those places well.

The word is quiet/quieter :D Away from the main touristy parts/Bangla Road etc..

  4. As a regular visitor to Phuket, mainly Patong having made 15 visits of between 4 and 12 weeks at a time over the last 6 years.

I enjoy the night life but at times find I would just like to go to a nice quietish bar where the company is good and relax. Patong area.

No “you buy me drink” and no load music, drowning out every bodies conversation out. And no not even pool etc

Any body got any good recommendations in Patong that meet these criteria? Or is this an impossibility?

Where do you go? When you want to get away from it? :o

  5. well as above im looking for a girl i met in phuket last year. the bar was in soi seapaerl and the bar was called the fire rose bar. the manageress was called nin but the girl im looking to contact is called kai and she worked in this bar.

anybody know who im talking about

    alan

Was she also known as chicken ? If so she has put on a lot of weight and married a Australian. :o

  6. I was wrong, the legal age is 20. Thai or foreigner, same same. Sorry for the confusion.

George. Can you tell me your source for the Age 20.

As I have seen on a number of web sites that it is 18.

On other sites 17 even and a couple no limit.

I have also seen it in The Nation saying the age limit is 18

Could the drinking age and the legal age for going in a bar be different as this is Thailand

  7. I have a theory (which I have has been strongly backed up) on the Tuk Tuk issue. Although unfair to call these drivers "mafia" it wouldnt be far off, these Tuk Tuks are however supplied by the mafia ! They set the prices, not the driver ! This is not an unusual thing and happens not only in Thailand, for example when someone has a taxi in say England or the USA they are required to "hire" the radio ? Your paying someone for the privilege of being able to operate, its no different to that in Phuket !

Just to set the record straight. As a taxi prop in the Uk

When you rent the radio in the UK thats all you are doing. You are not paying for the priviledge of operating. That is controlled by the local council. In my local authority, the fares are set by the council and you cannot by law charge more. You can charge less but not more.

If you take fares to outside your local authority area you can charge what you like or what you can get :o

  8. Guys,

I usually stay in the Dynasty, but am considering the Honey as I see a few recs on the site. Couple of questions:

    Is it girl friendly?

Are the rooms usually as good as shown on the website?

Idea of the costs for a room?

    Cheers,

    Ace

I booked a room a room at the honey a week ago, when I got there the room I had booked was not available.I was offered a room on the third floor or one on the ground floor. On looking at the rooms I found them to be dingy,no fridge and having badly soiled carpets.Needless to say, I decided to stay elsewhere.

And the rooms I saw bore little resemblance to the web site.Price 800 baht,900 baht and 1000 baht.

I ended up at the Nana Tai at 1200 baht a night .More than happy for the price!

  9. Hi,

I presume there are Beer Bars and or girlie bars at Ao Nang Beach, I expect it to be different to Patong but hoping there are a few places to find lovely Thai girls. Arriving mid May 2005 staying at La Playa.

Also is there a shared minibus between Phuket Airport and Ao Nang or Krabi?

    Thanks in advance

There was two small beer bar areas in aonang.Well there was a couple of years ago.One at the southern end and one down a small side street more central.

Both area`s when I was there had poor disinterested pickings :o Alot of the bars were either closed or had no customers.

Would have though you could get a shared minibus from Phuket airport, but if quiet you may have to get a car.

  10. Hi ...I will be flying home to uk end of may and am currently staying in phuket and wondered if any airline did direct flights and if so what is best and any good travel agents to get ...or better online.....many thanks

The only airline to fly direct in recent years, is the charter airline Brittania Airways.

    To London and Manchester.

But don`t think it`s operating at the moment though I may be mistaken :D

I think Monarch also flew directly to Phuket but both being charter airlines the chances of getting a one way or even return from Phuket/London would be negligible.

Actually you could get flight only with Brittania Airways if there were available seats.

Have been offered flight by Thomas Cook years ago.

Main problem only three week returns offered and poor legroom. And they refuelled in the gulf. :o And not really competative pricing

    Can`t speak for monarch though.

  12. Drive to break transport ‘mafia’ launched

PHUKET: In an attempt to improve public transport on the island, Governor Udomsak Usawarangkura has announced his support for a new project aimed at putting hundreds of metered taxis on Phuket roads and launching an Airport Bus service.

On April 1, the Governor presided over the launch of the “Taxi Phuket Development Project” at Central Festival, during which he also announced the introduction of a new 52-baht minibus service between Phuket City and the airport.

The 30-seat minibus, to go into service in about three months’ time, will stop at four locations: Surakul Stadium on Wichit-Songkraam Road; Tesco-Lotus; the Heroines’ Monument and Pranangsang Temple on Thepkrasattri Rd, in Thalang.

The new taxis are station wagons with seating for seven and more luggage room than the standard metered taxis. Built by Bangkok-based car manufacturer Thairung Union Car (TUC), t he “Thairung Bangkok Limousine Express” vehicles have Isuzu 3,000cc engines and are available for purchase at 920,000 baht on a low-interest instalment plan through the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank (SME Bank).

Prospective buyers can set themselves up as taxi drivers for a down payment of 229,000 baht, paying off the balance over a five-year period at just 5% interest. No collateral is required, though buyers must have a personal guarantor.

Teerayuth Prasertphol, Chief of the Phuket Provincial Transportation Office (PPTO), told the Gazette today that the taxi fare will be 50 baht for the first two kilometers, then 7 baht per kilometer thereafter.

While this is more expensive than metered taxi fares in Bangkok, the 20km trip between Patong and Phuket City, for example, would cost 176 baht – about half what most tuk-tuks currently demand for the same journey.

    K. Theerayuth added that the metered-taxi registration process takes one day and costs less than 2,000 baht.

At the launch, Gov Udomsak said he would like to see public transport in Phuket improve and provide more options for tourists.

“Currently we have only about 20 metered taxis. I would like eventually to see all black-plate [illegal] taxis become registered. We also want to add more metered taxis,” he said.

While admitting that competition for passengers between limousine and metered

taxi drivers at the airport was still a problem, he said that officials would be fair in mediating any disputes that arose from the introduction of new taxis.

“Some metered taxis in Phuket are still barred from picking up passengers at certain hotels. We would like them to be able to collect fares from anywhere on the island. It’s a necessary thing that we must do,” he said, adding that he was willing to take on “influential figures” to make it so.

Gov Udomsak encouraged tuk-tuk drivers in Patong whose vehicles were damaged by the the tsunami to switch over to metered taxis and also encouraged black-plate taxi drivers to take advantage of the SME loans and operate legally.

Virat Kulsri, Assistant Managing Director of TUC, said that more than 100 people in Phuket had already expressed interest in buying and operating the new taxis, three of which are already in service in Chiang Mai.

“I think this model is appropriate for Phuket because it can seat more passengers and luggage. The cars are efficient and safe. They run on diesel, getting about 16km per liter, and all seats are equipped with safety belts.

“Owners should be able to collect between 2,500 baht and 4,000 baht a day in fares – enough to pay off the SME loans, which work out to 477 baht per day,” he said.

    7th April 2005

If he manages to accomplish this one project, he will be remembered for many, many years. Hopefully, not posthumously.

Well lets hope this comes to pass, but I for one will not hold my breath TIT :o

  13. I just thought people may like to know. a report on the aftermath of the tsunami was shown on uk tv tonight (friday)

Showing Patong Koa Lak, and phi phi.

Generally this was positive reporting.Including the fact that Phuket did not suffer as much as some people had being led to believe. And what damage had been done was quickly being cleaned up!

Someone,Farang,I missed his name was interviewed from the phuket gazette.Encouraging visitors to return to the island. Some nice shots of the clean beaches were shown. And all the reconstruction work going on in kao lak and phi phi.A number of visitors were interviewed giving positive opinions reguarding tourism..

    About time I say :D:D:o

  14. My Opinion Best I have flown on from UK

    1) Emirates

    2) Eva

    3) Malaysian

    4) Finnair

    5) Qatar

    6) Singapore

Yes I really did prefer Finnair to Singapore.Even if the planes were older!! and had no seat back screens.Stewardesses did tend to be older as well :D

Emirates definately the best. The main thing to impress me after the menu :D was the stewardesses looked you in the eye when talking to you.And spent time talking generally, to passengers, when they had the time.:o

Qatar air manage to put the cases on the wrong plane at Doha :D Also had malfunction when taking off leading to long delay.Over six hours late into Bangkok and no case!!.Though in all fairness did get it me first thing next day.

  15. Dear Friends,

I have been watching you very closely to see if you have been

good this year and since you have I will be telling my elves to make

some goodies for me to leave under your tree at Christmas. I was going

to bring you all gifts from the 12 days of Christmas, but we had a

    little problem.

The 12 fiddlers fiddling have all come down with VD from fiddling with

the 10 ladies dancing, the 11 lords leaping have knocked up the 8 maids

a-milking, and the 9 pipers piping have been arrested for doing weird

things to the 7 swans a-swimming.

The 6 geese a-laying, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves and

the partridge in a pear tree have me up to my sled runners in bird shit.

On top of all this, Mrs. Claus is going through menopause, 8 of my

reindeer are in heat, the elves have joined the gay liberation. Maybe

next year I will be able to get my shit together and bring you the

    things you want.

This year I suggest you get your asses down to Wal-mart before

    everything is gone.

  16. There are ample boards on Patong/Phuket.  Some body needs to pop this pimple on the but of a great place.  The guy is so self centered if you disagree and have better info you get banned.   I think the prick doesn't even leave Nanai Road.

He certainly does leave Nania Road.Left at least twice last month that I know of.

    To see me!! :o:D:D

As he pointed out to me.The board is run the way the owners want it. Mainly for first time tourists and holiday makers.

    If anyone dosn`t like it.They can !!!!!!!!!!!! :D

There`s only a couple of people banned. For extremely offensive language !!!

  17. has anbody seen this guys board.  He lives in Patong but can't answer basic questions.  If you disagree or worst know more he jumps your <deleted>???

This jerk wad insisted that the returant attached to the Phuket Cabana (now Ipanima cabana or something)  was called the Side Walk Cafe.  It have been La Salsa from day one which was about Songkran '01.  The have some great Cuban posters of Fidel and Che and other stuff.  both out door and indoor ( great Air con)

seating. All lating spice fare with some real cuban cigars for sale.  Pricey but very nice,  TG's don't like the snack food but the fancy drinks and  air con are a real winner.  How could a guy not know about the palce.  BTW, he also states that the Meter Taxi Que at Dom Muang starts inside and you pay at the counter...  Anybody know about this guy?  Bad for the town!

It`s not his board (forum),he is only the moderator. The forum belongs to Phuket.com :o

  18. Was just curious to know whether female police officers exist in Thailand? I've never seen any. Has anyone? Kinda the same with taxi drivers except I saw my 1st ever female cabbie in Bangkok the other day.

The Tourist Police in Patong have a female police officer a sargent with three stripes.

Have seen her touring hotels and guest houses recently with a senior officer.Very smart & approachable she was as well. :o You certainly dont get female officers looking like her in the uk !! :D
