  1. Yeah we all, or at least most of us, drive over the speed limit on clear roads, good vis etc. High speed driving at night in this country is pure madness. In response to the OP on a closed thread this is the result of a prick driving at high speed on the expressway at night.

By the way that's not his pick up it's mine and the prick nearly killed my missus and four of her friends. He tail ended her while trying to undertake and lost control!!!!

    Enjoy your driving <deleted>!

So, what are you trying to tell me?

  2. Yet another "It's a scam" posting but at least the OP got something right - his avatar! What an ********!

Normally when stopped for speed you get asked to come to the desk and show all papers and pay the fine. Which is fair enough!. But in this case he just walked up to me at the toll booth and was just guessing. As for such I call it a "scam" as he could do the same to people who do drive at the correct speed. Wasn't even re-directed to any desk as it was near mid night and no cars on the road.

With your avatar behind the wheel you wouldn't even be able to handle min. speed.

  3. Pickups faster than most BMWs!

I'm talking about Thai roads, not western showrooms.

In the US 320 is not even on sale.

Thai BMW is not the same company as you know it in the West. Here they brought 318 back because chicks like the looks better.

There was an interview with one of their top managers not long time ago - some Thai boy who has hardly weened off his milk bottle and diapers. Last I heard he's gone already.

BMW's sort of made sense in the nineties when you could have one for just over a million. Now it starts at 2.5 million for less power than any of the pickups.

Drivers give it a miss in favour of Subarus and Evos or modified Nissans, BMW is an overpriced girls ride.

At Lexus, on the contrary, it's a company policy to never lower specs to suit particular markets. They don't want to dillute brand image (it's not strong enough yet).

BMW here is the same! They kicked out all BMW dealer out years ago as they where not giving the "known" BMW service. BMW took on all after kicking the rotten apples out.

BMW Thailand is the same as in europe. However I know of problems between BMW canada and America. (P.s. I am not from the USA)

    So I guess you are a fortuner driver. 5 5 5 5

  5. Got stopped on Monday night at 23:30 coming from Dong muang tollway towards Ding Deang tollway. While prepairing cash for the tool booth a police officer came to me and told me I was driving to fast. I asked him how fast I was going. He told me 180 km/h. I thought for a split second and told him that it was impossible cause I was driving 120 km/h. Asked him to see the pictures....he said that he couldn't right now... I have to pay now! (I know its not always possible to see the ticket and at during day light you just give your passport and collect it when picture is printed, incl. paying the fine)

Ok, now I had enough and told him that I was only driving 120 and wanted to speak to his supervisor. He than told me like..ehhmm, hmmm etc....ok go, you go now!

Now, I knew he was lying as I was driving well over 210km/h on this strech! Forgive me for speeding but at night its just beautifull to do so as there is hardly any traffick.

So next time you get stopped AT NIGHT for speeding just bluff!

  6. During my years in Thailand I have had:

    1. Saab 9-3 (great car, great service at petchburi Rd. expensive spare parts)

    2. Mazda 323 (bought for ex-girl friend, felt like driving a pepsi can on wheels)

    3. Ford Pick-Up truck (used to transport heavy items, again pepsi can on wheels)

    4. Lexus ES 300 (3 month affair, never again....)

    5. Peugot 506 (smoothest ride over bumps)

    6. BMW 5 series (driving now, never anything else again other than a newer one when a new model comes out)

    7. Jeep Cherokee (Great car....but the patrol usage....)

    8. Volvo V40, T4 (nothing but problems with the bangkok heat and HPT)

And I must admit that once driving BMW, you dont want to get back to anything else....

Have a test drive at any BMW dealer. You can book a test drive online. They will come to see you at your office or home! I think you can do the same with the lexus..

Japanese make great looking cars, however driving them doesn't even come close to BMW.. Maybe in 10 years from now they will have discovered the secret.

As for Benz.. well, enough said...

  7. Just for the sake of curiousity, why did the Irish pub on Soi Convent, the Irish Exchange, close down?

The Irish Xchange to close and re-open as Molly Malone’s

After six years as Bangkok’s finest pub, The Irish Xchange will close its doors on July 31st. On behalf of the management and staff I would like to thank you for your custom and support over the years.

The pub will be closed for renovations until the 1st of September 2007 when it will reopen its doors as Molly Malone’s. The re-branding of the pub is due to the fact that we have been taken over by Molly Malone’s Phuket.

The pub will reopen following substantial remodeling but we would like to assure you that the distinctive character and friendly staff that has made the pub Bangkok’s favorite watering hole will remain. Improvements will include:

    * A brand new air conditioning system,

    * New keg room and Beer chiller to Guarantee a cooler fresher taste

    * Complete New state of the art Sound system with improved stage area

    * Improved Access

    * Remodeled safer up stairs access

    * Increased Standing Capacity

    * Increased Seating Capacity

Since when do the moderators allow the manager of this bar, who posted the above, allow advertising. A little research shows that mark also has another account here and replies to himself on several account. What a TROLL!

  8. How did you pay your taxi fare - plastic?

Can't you spare a hundred baht or so for someone in need?

Maybe one day you will fall on hard times.

I've given large amounts of money to people in need knowing very well I won't ever see it again. That's not the problem. Its the fact that this guy was obviously lying to me and not needing the money for his airport tax. Otherwise he could go to the embassy and tell them that he ran out of money and they will arrange for his flight back, accommodation and food for the next 2-3 days until they can get him on a flight. Once back in his home country, the homeless shelter will take care of him if needed.

Even if you go to the Thai police and tell them you ran out of money, they will deport you back to your home country.

By his aggressiveness, I am thinking he was a drug addict.

If he is dutch than he wont get support from the embassy. All the Dutch embassy does is contacting your family back home and ask them for money to get you back. If the family refuses to support you are out on the streets....

So what will happen with the pool table?

  10. Isn't there a burger place called Garage Burgers on the same floor in the same mall? A Thai place I think, but it looked very good. Is it?

I agree this White Spot place is going to need some kind of Canuck invasion to make it.

For all you burger lovers. I tried Mike's burger yesterday and very very dissapointed. Now however I had a burger as Mos Burger @ Central World! WOOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was fantastic! No wonder people are queing up outside!

  11. I went in on opening day, last Friday. There are 3 of these in Chiang Mai and it seems like it is very popular there. I ordered the Cheese Burger combo which comes with fries and a large coke for B170. Have to say it was opening day and there must have been 12 people behind the counter and maybe 3 servers, it was kinda crazy, but it was the first day! Burger was good size, too thick for my liking and it was kinda undercooked, fries were good. They also have hot dogs, chili dogs, Cheese Steak sandwiches and more. I will go back but gonna wait a while for them to iron things out.

Beautiful shop, clean with booth seating and outside tables and counter seating looking out on the sidewalk.

Had a try today. Not again for a burger! Undercooked, fries not cooked either. And waited 17 minutes for takeaway. Staff seemed kind of new to their own product. I leave that to the Corner Nana guy. Will try the hotdog next time.

  12. concur with locations above (been stopped at don meung and the motorway one)

raybkk, where is the radar trap on the way back from samet?

From Kleang back to bangkok. I use this Rd. all the time going and coming to Koh Samet as its quiet and you cut of the Rayong and Pattaya bit and get straight to the motorway.

However National High Way Police is has been there on many occasions. They move between this section.

  13. 1. Tollway Don Muang till exit booth

    2. Rama 9 Express way as earlier mentioned

    3. On the way back from Koh Samet, not via Rayong.

Caught on all the above location! Never a point deducted, just show work permit/ passport instead of license. In fact they never mentioned point. Just cashing Baht 500.- Ticket will be given. No bribes

  14. Hi there,

Ok, I have been living in chiangmai for a few years and have an old BMW 3series. I was driving home one night after being out for a friends birthday. Then all of a sudden some thai guy smashed into the front of my car on his Honda wave with his girlfriend on the back.

I stopped and called the police and ambulance as the guy driving looked in a bad way. They went off to hospital as did I. I was fine (shaken but fine) but the police wanted to check my blood alchol level. The 19year old driving has a broken leg and a broken arm and his 17 year old girlfriend has a broken leg. both the boy and the girl were in hospital for approx. 1 week. The bills for both came to no more than 40k (which I beleive has already been paid for by the insurance company).

This all happened a little over a month ago. I have yet to get my boold alcohol results as the hospital have said they cant issue the results and I have to go to check at the police station. The police have also not given me the results but Im fairly sure that I was over the limit.

Now, the guy driving the Honda wave, hit my car on my side of the road, hit the front left corner of the car (so he had to be on my side), doesnt have a drivers licence, wasnt wearing a helmet and was probably drunk ( it was 3am, what else was he doing out at this time) but wasnt tested for alcohol at the police station.

I have been to see the families at the police station 3 times now (as well as visiting them in the hospital). The first time they wanted 300k each!!! I dissagreed and went off the find a lawyer (tougher than I had thought to find an honest and good one). The second time I went with my lawyer and they stuck to there original 600k (for the 2 people). The police man and my lawyer both said that this was a rediculous figure and wanted them to come down so I offered 100k (50k each). They declined my offer and stuck to 600k. Finally, on saturday just gone I went back to talk and we agreed on 120k (60k each). Now I didnt sign anything to this effect as I said I would like to seek advice from other parties.

Ok, 120k is a ###### site better than 600k but I still feel that this kid was in the wrong, plus I have over 60k of damage to my car, who is going to pay for that? Not once has anyone mentioned my car, who is going to help me with fixing my car etc. Noone has mentioned fault? It doesnt seem right that we are talking money before anyone has decided on whos fault it is.

Now my question is, reading what I have written above do you think that I should do? Just bite the bullet and pay them (even though I still have to go to court) or should I say NO! you are wrong you didnt even have a drivers licence (you shouldnt have been on the road in the first place) you hit me, I didnt hit you! you hit me on my side of the road whilst driving way too fast (his girlfriend ended up approx 10meters away from him and 20odd meters from the accident (so he must have been flying for them to have gone so far (as the police have agreed))) and I dont want to pay you I want you to pay me to fix my car?

Now originally I was willing to help them (not because I thought it was my fault but because I wanted to help), but after they came to the table with a stupid number like 600k I decided they were only interested in taking this falang to the cleaners and I was no longer interested in helping them.

If I take this to court, would I win? and even if I lost would I have to pay this much or would it be more??? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as I have heard it all (everyone has different advice (but noone has said something that is set in stone)). Plus I wold really like to hear from someone that knows the law in Thailand.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS. PREFFERABLY FROM PEOPLE THAT KNOW AND NOT FROM THOSE THAT ARE GUESSING...

    Many thanks,

    Kish

wasnt wearing a helmet and was probably drunk ( it was 3am, what else was he doing out at this time) but wasnt tested for alcohol at the police station.

Hmmmm, I am 99% sure they took his blood at the Hospital. Ofcourse not at the station as he was submitted to the hospital. Ask the Hospital for the blood tests. Isn't it a standard policy of the Hospital to draw blood from accident victims?

If blood was drawn than you might have a better chance of protection yourself in court. If both where drunk than both pay or none pays

  15. Do NOT take no for an answer donna. You are entitled to severance pay and a month's notice. The severance depends on how long you have been working for that employer as you already know.

The fact that it was a fixed term contract is irrelevant despite what they say. Talk to a lawyer such as sunbelt and don't for a second think you are screwing the hotel; quite the reverse, that is exactly what they are trying to do to you.

thanks bendix. i have contacted a lawyer in bangkok and he has ems'd some documents down to the hotel. the hotel then have to send the docs to the owning company in singapore. i expect that this will take some time, but the hotel is quite clearly in breach of thai law so they will have to pay up.

i hope it doesnt take too long though. if they want to play hard, i will play harder. i am not letting them get away with not paying me what i am entitled to.

Just go to the Labout Court on Rama4. They have advisors for free and handle all the paperwork! When the Hotel receives a letter from them it will all go very very fast.

  16. And Today I took my mate to the Head office of the SCB where I opened an account 3 years ago without any hassles no questions asked.

    Coming today was totally different.

    1. No bank account with Tourist Visa

    2. Need workpermit

Told the lady that he was a friend of mine (spoke in Thai to them). Further did I tell them that he needed that account to transfer funds from abroad to purchase a condo.

Manager came, signed of and all was done very fast.

Asked them why all the hassle to which she said: "Many problems with Foreigners who open account without NON-B visa. Bank was told to change their policy because of Terrorism scare. Needs to be NON-B Visa minimum.

  17. I dont really get why, but I have had 20 bad hair cuts in Thailand and zero good hair cuts. I have always gone to places in the 300-400 baht range - so maybe I need to go to somewhere more expensive?

Are there any good places to get a hair cut in the Nana area that might be used to cutting farang hair? Can you recommend a specific barber/salonist?

Thanks, I am really getting tired of having to wait to go to HK or Singapore to not look like a fool with a lop-sided hair.

Louis Kraemer, Central Worl, 4th floor next to the banks. Never lets you down. Foreign Trained staff. Foreign Owned.

The guy walked in my shop 6 months ago promoting his opening with 50% discount. Just mention "Raymond" and he will give you the same price which is Baht 280.

  18. Are you residing in Thailand? Community service? Sounds like Bullshit to me, this guy isnt for real - TROLL

He is not a troll!!!! It happened to me to 1.5 year ago.

Spent the night in prison cause I didn't have the Baht 20000 bail on me. 2 days later to see the Judge, fined Baht 4000 and 20 hrs! Probation for 1 year and seeing the parole officer every 3 months for 1 year!

This happened on Rama 3, Bangkok. Where they are every month doing check ups.

Oh yes. Not to forget, when I paid bail the next morning I had to go accross the road to get the Copper a bottle of whisky because of his son's birthday. All that could pay the Bail got out within 1 hour.
