  1. Go to Kaosarn, get a fake international license. Bring that to the Moo Chit transport office and get a Thai License. Wait a few weeks and apply for international driving permit... :o

    Ups.... does that really work?

Not sure, havent tried it. But heard about people doing that..

  2. i'm so frustated everytime using the service of online banking of bangkok bank. sometimes it's fast but MOST of the time it's very slow and even can hang and toooooooooooooo slow to respond. after closing the window thinking that it doesn't respond, logging-in again is impossible with the message that "you are already logged in.. blah, blah, blah... <deleted>!

I am using Bangkok Bank BizIbanking where you get a seperate Users Token. Works brilliant!!!

    https://bizibanking.bangkokbank.com/

    No problems, very good service!!

  3. You posting is in a circle, comically. It's almost impossible to ascertain what you are trying to do. Making broad assumptions:

    1. you live in Thailand: Yes 13 years

    2. you are Dutch : Yes, sorry for that

    3. you want to renew your Dutch driver's license: Yes, would like to

    Is any of that correct?

In the past, how did you get a certificate of residence? In teh past I would just turn up at the Dutch embassy in Bangkok, hand them the money, give them some address and they confirm it. Nowadays this is not possible anymore and need to get a letter from the register in the Netherlands to confirm that I no longer live in the Netherlands

    Sorry I wasn't clear...

All I am after is to say that it is a pain to get anything done while living in Thailand and having to deal with certain isseus such as renewal of drives licenses or getting a certifikate of residence from the Dutch embassy in Thailand.

  4. Hi

I'm going to be working in Kasikorn bank headquarters just over the river (via Saphan Kwaen bridge i think) in south bangkok. I need to find the best place to stay. I'd like to stay close the city and its nightlife but not too far to commute into work each day. Any ideas? I'm only after somewhere reasonably cheap for Mon-Fri as i'll be living outside bangkok at weekends so either a hotel or serviced apartment would be cool. I was thinking somewhere around Sathorn road seems ok but give me some more ideas guys!!

    thanks

    ron

Go and live here. You will be able to see your office from the balcony!

  5. Its been going on for a while. I needed to renew my drivers license and as I was in the Netherland for a holiday not long ago I thought. Oh well, I will visit the Town Hall and get a new one..

No Sir, that isn't possible as you are not registered in the Netherlands. You are living in Thailand and you need to bring a letter from the Ducth Embassy in Bangkok to confirm you are living there should you want to renew your license in the Netherlands..

<deleted>.. I am ducth, show my license and Passport and they sent me back to Thailand for a letter.. Geeee...

Ok, now than. Called the embassy this morning saying I needed a Certificate of Residence.....

Dutch guy asnwers the phone and tells me to get a proof of the City of birth that I am no longer a resident in the Netherlands...

Its like a circle. I used to have no problems getting a Certificate of Residence. Has it all changed now??

  6. It all depends where you are planning to buy your second hand car from. For me I stick with leasing companies.

    1. Perfect record of maintenance

    2. Background checking on driver of the car during lease period.

    3. Background checking on accidents.

    All straight open.

Got my BMW from them, 2 year old. With 5 year maintenace or 100K package still valid.

50% of new price as the leasing companies dont sell for profit, just writing of their assets.

Mine was chauffeur driven for Executive from ING Bank. Spoke to her too...

Great transactions and trouble free. Several of my friends have gone the same way....

Now selling it within the next 2 years I will get the same, if not more, as I bought it for looking at the current market price.

So what did I loose? Nothing.. absolutely nothing at all. Still have maintenance for the coming 2 years.

Now, I would not go to a tent and buy a second hand car....

That certainly sounds like a good way to buy second hand. Where and how do these leasing companies advertise the cars that they are selling on?

    Ask them:

    Phatra Leasing Public Company Limited

    Muangthai - Phatra Complex

    29 FL. 252/6 Ratchadapisek Rd

    They have loads of stock.

  8. So I am sitting at this German Eatery/Bierhouse bar on Soi 11 Sukumvit, sort of on the street, just off, talking with this Thai lady when this SUPER drunk guy pulls up and asks the lady I was talking to for a cigarette.

Up steps this guy in a suit jacket, and pulls out his fancy cigarette case and gives the drunk guy a cigarette while asking me where I am from. He seems fairly sober so I tell him.

The drunk guy then starts berating me, saying I'm slime, I'm a coward, I'm the worst on the earth, where I come from is sh*** (folks, where I come from is known as a relatively cool place) just overboard with insults, yelling....... I tell the barman that if he doesn't do something I am going to. They kick the both of them out onto the street.

I felt like something was up. Like the drunk guy was baiting me and the guy in the suit jacket had something up his sleeve. This is Thailand so I do not care to be stabbed or injured over some BS like this guys words,so I didn't react but has anyone else experienced any type of situation like this and ended up with bigger problems? Any scams going on in Sukumvit that anyone has experienced that starts like this?

    Talking of which!!

Last sunday went into the Spice Club, Soi 11. (dont ask me why...)

While parking the Car security comes up and say.. VIP Parking... Ok, thanks mate!

Locked the car, he says.. Give me ticket and Key I take care for you... Oh, Ok as many places have valed parking... So I didnt think much about it.

30 minutes got out of there as it was <deleted> so asked the guy for my key, he says: No key Sir, only your ticket... WHAAAAAHH!!!

<deleted>!!.. Ok, not want to argue, went home and got my spare key out. Returned to the parking with Taxi, opened my door and noticed that somebody has been in it as my seat position was changed...

Tomorrow arranged with the Hotel to watch CCTV and see if we can find out what was really going on.

I think they thought that I would not come back within 30 minutes and hoped for a NEXT DAY pick up only to discover it would have been stolen.

Meanwhile reprogrammed the Keys at the garage...

So then the Spice Club is no good?

    Any women in there?

Ha ha ha... well... I dont think I need to reply to that... Its just another after Bar/ Disco.

Not worth going there unles you are looking for freshly used "cars"

  9. Please try to resolve with the ex-wife first. And please try hard!! I went through the same shit when I was a Kid..12 year old. It leave a permanent marker on your daughters brain.

Looking back I wish that My mother never taken me but instead would have found pease with my father as friends. That way I would have had both parents.

    However, each situation is different.

  10. A Young man called Paul wanted to buy a Christmas present for his new

    girlfriend.

They hadn't been seeing each other for very long and she lived a

    considerable distance away.

He consulted with his sister and decided after careful consideration,

that a pair of good quality

Gloves would strike the right note, not too romantic and not too personal.

Off he went with his sister to Harrods ladies dept and they selected

a dainty pair of fur lined quality leather gloves.

His sister bought a pair of knickers for herself at the same time.

Harrods had a free gift wrap offer but the assistant mixed up the two

items, the sister got the gloves and Paul got the knickers.

Good old Paul sent off his gift wrapped present in a parcel with the

    following letter:

    Dear Sasha,

I chose these because I've noticed that you are not wearing any when we

    go out in the evenings.

If it had not been for my sister I would have chosen the long ones

with buttons, but she wears shorter ones (which are easier to remove).

These are a very delicate shade, but the lady I bought them from

showed me the pair she had been wearing for the past three weeks and

they were hardly soiled at all.

I had her try yours on for me and she looked really smart in them

even though they were a little bit tight on her.

She also said that they rub against her ring which helps keep it clean.

In fact she hasn't needed to wash it since she began wearing them.

I wish I was there to put them on for you the first time, as no doubt

many other hands will touch them before I have a chance to see you

    again.

When you take them off remember to blow into them a little bit

because they will be naturally a little damp from wearing.

Just imagine how many times my lips will kiss them during the coming year.

I hope you will wear them for me on our next date.

    All my love

    Paul…

P.S. My mum tells me that the latest style is to wear them folded

down with a little bit of fur showing

  12. On another note, I've never understood why people keep going back to Bella Napoli.

Maybe you are ordering the wrong dish. IMO Bella Napoli one of the best value for money restaurants in Bangkok, the "Priest Pizza" is amazing and it costs less than a large pizza from Pizza company. Limoncello has pizzas of similar quality only 30% more expensive.

Last time I went to Bella Napoli was dissapointing too...

Best pizza for me is still at the Hyatt Erawan, Spasso.... Great taste

  13. Of the places already mentioned.

    I've never enjoyed anything from

    Chetser's Grill

    Little Italy

    Pizza Hut

    The Pizza

Places that either have something I enjoy or have had mixed results for me

    KFC (Their spicy rice meal)

Mikey D's ( I enjoy the tastes , but nearly always feel ill after)

    A+W (Curly Fries + Burgers)

DoW (everything I have had has been OK if not fantastic)

    O'Reilleys (Ditto DoW)

Subway (skip the sauces and don't add all the salad and they are ok)

Fuji (you get what you pay for)

Places I have enjoyed my meal

MK (its cheap and cheerful and I do enjoy their roast pork and duck)

BurgerKing (great once every 3 or 4 months)

Rib Room (never had a bad meal their, Though to be fair the last one was 6 or 7 years ago)

Guisto (had some fantastic meals their, its pricey though)

    Not mentioned

    Good

    NY steak House

    Bulls Head

    Dubliner

Delaneys (or whatever its called now)

    Jools

The Tapas place on Soi 11

I'm Sure I've missed more than a few

    Places that are OK

    Crepes and Co.

Jungle restaurant next to the Bulls Head

Bourbon Street (15 years ago one of the best places in town, either something has gone wrong recently or there wasn't much competition 15 years ago)

The Pat Thai stall on the corner of 33 (crap noodles but the Hoi Taad is ok)

    PiZanotti, Suk 11 is closed....:-(

  14. Giusto

O'Reileys and The Duke Of Wellington on Silom Road are the worst pub grub.

Just about any guest house / hotel on Khao San Road is well worth avoiding also.

Have to agree about O'Reileys as it gave me horrible food poison awhile back. I also think it's overpriced what what you get...considering Molly Mallones on Convent is similar prices with great pub food!

    Yeah Horrible!!

Last time I ate at O'Reileys 2 cockroaches walked out of the salad!! The smaller ones! Closer inspection revealed that they come from out form the wood work and start crawling over the food!!

Called for the manager and the answer was.. No proplem, we make you another one!! Mentioning that it was not the dish but the woodwork that is the cause he still insisted on making me a new one.

Needless to say, I walked out without paying and have never been back.

  15. You have informed them about your financiel situation, you have informed them that you are not pleased and you not feel paying that amount as you feel it was their fault.

So come with them on terms and tell them that while you are sorting out things with consumer protection department, lawyers etc you will pay a monthly fee towards your first quotation for the initial operation.

Should it come to a court case at least you have proof that you have never tried to avoid paying. Try and stay 1 step infront of them.

    Best of luck

  16. My friends back in Holland run a Taxi company. The Policy... never turn of the engines. Or as little as possible. All merc diesels.

During shift changes the engines just keep running. 24/7

They have their own filling station so no need to stop engines either.

    Run them till they brakedown.

  18. Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes. My shipping agents in Bkk want me to send them my passport to give to customs so that my goods can be cleared. I checked this morning and they insist that the original is needed, not a copy. Is this normal? Naturally, I'm reluctant to let it go, but if it needs to be done, so be it. What is the best way to send it from CM to BKK?

It would be worth going to bangkok yourself for this case as you will also need to sign some papers. Unless you have authorized him in full already, than he would just need your passport
