If i am understanding your questions rightly i woudl highly recommend the embassy at KL. I have been to this one 4 times and they are efficient and also dont seem to be so strict as Singapore in regards to papaerwork being 100% correct. Although i know my papers are all OK when i go there, i know they tend not to be so harsh if something is slightly wrong if you know what i mean, but then again this is for Non Imm 'B' i am reffering to for for you to get tourist visa should be an absolute walk in the park. Nice place KL too, well worth a few days there.

Interesting, i will be in a similar boat come June and wa not aware that you can work on a Non Imm 'O' I have Non Imm 'B' and work permit of course so i will watch this thread with interest and see what comes up as when i coem to renew i would also maybe get the non imm 'O' if it is easier.

Have to say i think you will need to contact the embassy/consulate where you were issued with the Non Imm 'O' visa and tell them what has happened so they can either send you proof of visa, or contact BKK immigration to fax them the documents from your appiation so you can get it replaced, else i think you will find you will simply get 10 days from them and have to go and get a new one at KL or similar.

Silly thing to ask but quite practical really........can i get any 3 in 1 type Oil anywhere here in Phuket? It used to be called that in the UK years back when i was last there in late 1990's. It is for lubricating things and i found it good for door hinges and such like. Cant stand creaking doors!!

The law is written to stop people setting up dummy companies in order to simply buy/own land. If you own a Thai company genuinely and it trades and thus you can show VAT and tax returns etc, then yes it is OK for you to own house and land. But the law was changed failry recently to discourage people from setting the company up simply to own the land. You may never get a problem, it may be hit and miss, but if they want to act on the letter of the law, you could get yourself into hot water unless as i say you can show a trading company, bnot just a dummy coroporation in effect.

I have actually done this myself as a UK citizen coming back from Melbourne with no onward ticket. I was questioned as to why i had no ticket and supervisors were brought into the conversation, but once they saw i had Non Imm 'B' they understood and there was 'no worries' as they say.

Yes indeed. The Green man near Chalong circle has a good nosh up and some songs, recitations etc.

Whilst on that subject can anyone tell me where i stand with regards to a hired car whilst waiting for new company car and insurance if i have no Thailand driving license?
If you do not have a Thai driving license, what type(country) do you have ?
I have the UK Euro one with the ID picture card and paper bit, if that makes sense.

Seems this can be done online, here:
http://www.pattaya-immigration.org/dform/form_tm47.php
I don't live in Patters however, would that be an issue?
I have to say yes. I am certain that in my case being here in Phuket, no way would they accept an online report from me but i stand to be corrected.

Indeed quite right. Last time i went to BKK immigration and asked for an extension of my non imm B when i didnot have work permit i got 7 days. They now days will not give any extensions along the lines of monthly etc unless you have work permit and have proof of tax records etc.

All/some of the above really. I am in Real Estate and as the last reply says, really the law states it is illegal to set up a company for solely owning land, IE a dummy corp. So it is best if it is a legal trading company where you can show VAT and or Tax returns every year. If you simpyl set up a company to own the land, it can end up in court and trouble.

The rule is a maximum of 90 days using visa exemptions in a six month period.
Without your exact dates it's impossible to tell for certain, but it looks like you've run foul of this rule
If you list your exact entry and exit dates we will be able to give you a more accurate diagnosis
If it was only a single entry tourist visa then you have got your maximum, in order to get another 60 days you would have had to go to an embassy as borders donot themselves issueanything other than normal transient stamps unless you have a valid Visa, if that makes sense. You had your 90 days permissable on the TR if single entry.
-
Indeed you will more than likely have to get a new passport first as the rule is to get a visa for most if not all countries is that your current passport must have at least 6 months on it left.

Can anybody give me the information, which is the best, safest and good road conditions to drive from Phuket to Koh Samui. Are there different ferry operators?
Thank you
Indeed i would suggest a straight forward drive along highway 4 which you willjoin after the bridge over to the main land from Phuket Island. From there you go right to follow signs to Phang Nga not the other way which will go to Takua Pa and such like. Sorry to say i have no idea about the ferrys though. I have made the journey myself as far as Surat and got there in a little over 3 hours.

It has been suggested to me that I can go from a tourist visa to a non immigrant B through a new teaching job without leaving the country. Apparently I can do this in Bangkok. Can anyone confirm this or is my source mistaken?
In all honesty i would say your source is slightly mistaken. In order to apply direct to BKK imigration without leaving the country normally means they want to see tax paid, pay slips and such like. This facility at BKK immigration is really for those who have wroked here for 6 too 12 months and can show evidence of a track record in paying taxes and such like. In the first instance to get Non Imm. B from tourist really requires you to go out of the country, KL i would suggest is one of the best embassies locally. But check with them first what papers they need and want. Nothing is worse than getting there and finding out that the school/employer has given you the wrong forms or not enough paperwork.

My son has Dual Thai/UK nationality and it is something i have discussed with my wife and friends here and so far as i understand, he wil be liable for the lottery draw with regards to going into the services. I am not sure how accurate my info is as you hear so many different tales but the only sure ways i am told of getting out of this is for him to renounce his Thai nationality or be in full time education when he comes of that age and then go on to gain a good job. This also leads on to me having been told that if you are considered to be of a certain standing in this respect then you will be left out of it.
That said if you live in the UK at the time i am not sure it will be relevant at all.
