  1. Anthony,

I'm with you on this one. I now have an outstanding collection of mop heads because of the rusted handle syndrome. I have also discovered three different types of thread on the handles, so now I only buy a complete set of handle and mop head, and not just the handle.

  2. Because they can't shag beautiful third world prostitutes for 20 quid a pop back in the UK. That would only get you a BJ from a drug addict round the back of some council estate in the East End. That said, most would have trouble shagging anything. English women tend to be a tad more picky than those in Thailand desperate for a financial donor.

And there we have it; the voice of experience.

  3. OK, boys and girls, I am going to nail my colours to the mast, and say how much I appreciate the Bangkok bus drivers and clippies. They work under appallingly stressful conditions at times, and I have personally never come across a rude one, and I live in Bangkok and only travel by bus, so I have a great deal of experience. Of course, some are a little reckless when it comes to getting to their destinations, but at least everyone else stays well away from them.

Oh, and by the way, I have never been told they can't take me, or that I should go with them to a good jewellery store that has a one day sale on, or been overcharged.

  4. just a quick question if you have seen no drawings/plans what makes you think the route may encroach your living space ??

    Gerry,

I have just gleaned information about the proposed route from the reports in newspapers, internet, etc.. They are saying that they want landowners to "gift" them land along the riverside to build whatever it is they have in mind. As my home is right next to the river, and nobody has contacted me yet, I thought I would throw the question out there, just in case someone knows something/anything about the structure they have in mind. Have a look here:

  5. plans or drawings cheesy.gif cheesy.gif cheesy.gif

    Gerry,

I know what you mean, but I am being somewhat optimistic about their existence, as it appears that the cycle route will run through my living room! Probably just another load of hot air from the powers that be. I hope so anyway.

  6. Why not take the public boat along the San Saeb Khlong? It is very inexpensive, goes out to Minburi from Phan Fa, (changing boats at Pratunam), and is a real authentic experience.

By the way, don't worry about drowning in the canal if you should fall in. It is so polluted that will dissolve first!

  7. It was recently reported in various newspapers, that the government has allocated a 30 billion baht budget for a cycle way alongside the river. Try as I might, I cannot find any plans or drawings of the proposed route, and I would be grateful if someone could tell me where they can be located; if, indeed, they even exist!

Many thanks for any assistance you can give on this matter.

  8. Still well under the daily average for 2014 - these dangerous days are the safest days to travel according to statistics

The average is well above normal for the provinces. Obviously Bangkok will be less due to it being so quiet.

The injuries are way above the norm.

I would argue that it is when the Bangkok roads are quieter that they are at their most dangerous. When the traffic is at a standstill due to the volume of traffic, relatively few people are killed or injured. It is only when drivers can go faster that serious injuries or deaths occur.

  9. "...........Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said he plans large new public parks.............."

Maybe it would be better if the BMA looked into micro parks. They could be small recreational areas, about 1 kilometre apart, so that all Bangkok residents are no more than 500 metres away from a place where there would be exercise machines, and a green area with benches, where they could gather with their friends. A couple of large parks aren't much good to the majority of the people who live too far away from them to enjoy the facilities on a regular basis.

  10. "Researchers have found the increased use of low-temperature washes and gentle detergents to be culprits of laundry bacteria in washing machines...undergarments were found to be the main carriers of fecal matter, as well as different types of bacteria. In fact, an estimated average of 0.1 grams of fecal matter was found on every pair of clean underwear in the study."

"The sun is considered to be one of the toughest killer of germs. It's just as effective as bleach"

They had to do research to find this out?

  11. If your wife gets her permission to stay as your dependent then she does not need any money. If she gets her own permission to stay then yes she must have her own money. I have never managed to get a clear answer as to whether you can use a joint bank account with a non-Thai wife to show 800,000 baht or if it has to be in just your name. If you get an income certificate from your embassy it must be your income in your name. As an extra you must have a marriage license - not just living together and it will have to be certified.

My wife and I are both English and we are both on retirement extensions. When we first moved here we were permitted to use a joint account at CW showing in excess of 1.6 million baht. However, we were told about 4 or 5 years ago that this was no longer acceptable, and that they would only accept sole accounts in the future.

  12. Yes I do similar, but you should not have to with a proper washing machine

    Jacky,

I completely agree with you on that. Unfortunately, as you know, a hot water feed is only usually found in the bathroom, (if you're lucky), and not in the kitchen or laundry room, which is why I chose the LG washing machine, as I can now do a 40 degree regular wash, or a 60 degree, with steam, knock the living daylights out of it wash. I must say that I have noticed an appreciable improvement in the cleaning of my clothes and sheets, particularly the whites. The LG also does up to 17 kilos at a time, so I can put a really big load into it, which is much higher than similarly priced front loaders.
