  1. Last month I purchased a Go Pro Hero Camera and attached it either to my Car or Bike when travelling around the country.

I have been pulled over in the last month on 5 seperate occasions by the Police on 1 trip to Ko Chang, 3 trips to Bangkok and 1 trips to Ayuttaha. On each occasion I was asked what the thing in the car mounted on the dash was, or what was the thing mounted on the front of the bike was.

After they were told that it was a camera and that it recorded what had happened and that it recorded sound, on all occasions I was told to move on. I asked why I had been pulled over and was given no answer except that it was OK to go.

What a great little invention that helps stop the Police corruption. :) Get one, they hate it.

  2. I was travelling from Pattaya to Bangkok Tuesday on the motorway out of Pattaya. I was driving in the centre lane at 90 KPH which is the speed limit on this road when a Police Car escorting 4 busses which were tailgating each other were passing cars at 120 KPH, kicking up stones from the centre median barricade. The Police Vehicle had his flashing lights on and made all other vehicles move over from the centre barrier to the left. I sped up behind the last bus and clocked him on a down hill run at 130 KPH. A lot of cars had their windscreens smashed and were pulling over.

What gives these idiots the right to break the law especially when the people inside the busses were on holidays as they had loud music playing and disco lights flashing inside the bus. It was no emergency except for the cars with the broken windscreens. :)

  3. If it is a Nokia or a Samsung, take it to the "Factory Store"... Nokia is on Sukhimvit close to Pattaya Klang but not sure where the Samsung store is.

SAMSUNG next door to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital on Sukumvit Rd

  4. Had mine pumped out a week ago by the local sewerage works, large plastic one, took them about 15 minutes and they cleaned up after themselves. Cost B200. I live off Siam Country Club Rd not far from the sewerage plant. :) it was on the nose.

  5. You have one of 2 problems.

    1. As you say the air con is fitted incorectly and the water is not running out of the pipe correctly and coming back into your unit/home.

To fix this problem lift the opposite end of the air con and 2 if the drain pipe is higher than the drain pipe cut a section out of the pipe and lower it.

    2. It needs re gassing, if an air con is out of gas it will form a lot of condensation on the cooling fins and leak back into the unit/home. Contact the agent and have them come out and do a gas check for leaks and once fixed fixed and re gassed it would be OK.

If all else fails contact the dealer and let them know you are taking them to court over the damage the water is causing to your unit/home, and for the shoddy workmanship re the installation as it is their contractors that did the work. I will guarantee they will be there in no time. :)

  6. I have been informed that Chang Mai bike week starts on the 4th Dec through to the 9th Dec. I beleive that most of the hotels are booking out fast as there will be thousands of bikes there. Can any one confirm the dates and the info re the hotels.

  7. Hi Randell, I am 6'1" and 200Lbs. I bought a Yamaha T MAX Auto which is a 500cc and capable of 180 KPH with ease. I have just completed a trip to the Malaysian Moto Gp and Singapore return with Yamaha Big Bike Club. Had no problems and it is a great cruising bike as well as a fast bike will take your weight and length with ease. Cost registered and insured on the road, Baht 555,000.you can probably check it out on www.yamaha-motor.co.th or email chatree (at)yamaha-square.com and tell him Pee Nit Noi told him to look after you. Cheers :)

  8. Went to the Australian Embassy today for the purpose you are inquiring about.

Filled out a Stat Declaration re name and address in Thailand.

Wrote down in this order =

    1. For the purpose of aquiring a retirement visa.

    2. Department of Vet Affairs Pension $XXXX.XX

    3. Savings Account Interest $XXXX.XX

    Australian Dollars Total $XXXX.XX

Signed the Stat Dec in front of the Officer at the embassy.

    Paid Baht 590 service fee.

    All took 8 minutes.

  9. We were having a casual bar conversation last night and someone asked why foreigners have to report every 90 days? Nobody seemed to know apart from the fact that we have to do it.

I might be adressing this question in the wrong forum but did not see anything elsewhere.

I mean the "official" reason if anyone has it.

Immigration want to know where you are staying every 90 days and if you move from your hotel to another hotel or resort you have to notify Immigration within 24 hours. The hotel or resort will notify them as well. :)

  10. Anybody know about Koh Chang and its accomodation?

DOes it worth a visit during August/September?

    Thanks in advance :D

I go there about every 2 months and stay at White Sands Beach. Cookies is expensive and overated, I would not recommend it. However there are old and new bungalows opposite the 7/Eleven on the way down the hill into White Sands next door to the Police Station, I think it is called BJ's or JD's or something similar?. They have rooms from Bt 500 to 1000 with all the modern cons and breakfast included. You are over the road from the beach and the 7/Eleven and have all the restraunts and shops around you. Dont stay out of White Sands Beach as there is nothing around and you have to travel too far to get to town where all the action is. :)

  11. I need to fly to the UK soon and am a little concerned about infection of the recently reported swine flu, I have seen people on the news wearing protective face masks and would buy some in Pattaya, can anyone advise me where to try

    Yeah, in the UK. :)

  12. I am looking to find crispy peking duck which falls off the breast/bone that goes with pancakes/spring onion/plum sauce etc!!! i do not want just the skin and the rest of the breast made into a choice of different dishes but just as stated above.

The question is, does anybody know where it is possible to get this. have tried most of the usual places including Royal Cliff, to no avail.

    CHICKEN AT A CHINESE RESTAURANT

A couple go for a meal at a Chinese restaurant and order the "Chicken

Surprise". The waiter brings the meal, served in a lidded cast iron pot.

Just as the wife is about to serve herself, the lid of the pot rises

slightly and she briefly sees two beady little eyes looking around

before the lid slams back down.

"Good grief, did you see that?" she asks her husband.

He hasn't, so she asks him to look in the pot. He reaches for it and

again the lid rises, and he sees two little eyes looking around before it slams down.

Rather perturbed, he calls the waiter over, explains what is happening, and demands an explanation.

"Please sir," says the waiter, "what you order?"

    The husband replies, "Chicken Surprise."

    You're going to love this....................

    .................................................................

    ................................................................

"Ah... so sorry," says the waiter, "I bring you Peeking Duck"

  13. Hi all

I'm pondering over an idea to see Thailand from a motorbike. I'll get the important stuff out first. I'm a 24 year old Australian guy and I have two 60 day tourist visas. I'm nearly half way through the first one.

At the moment I'm in Chiang Mai and will be for a few more days before I leave to see what Thailand has to offer.

I've found a Honda Super4 400cc bike here for 30,000B. It's done roughly 36,000ks, it's an ex rental and seems to be in pretty good shape. It has no plates.

From the research I've done I've been told that no plates is ok as long as I stay out of major cities and don't try and cross any borders. Is this correct?

If this works out then I might do the same for each country I visit. Another thing, how hard would it be to sell a bike like that after using it for a month?

All feedback welcome. Thanks in advance!

  14. I have spoken to the senior engineer at TT&T today who informed me that the dark side is in the process of getting a new fiber optic link that will split the current load, the time scale is 2 weeks for completion. He showed me the map and the nodes that would be helped and it is most of the nodes on the East side of Pattaya.

I know him through a friend so he has no real reason to lie, but as we all know things don't always go to plan, however lets hope this does as the service is very intermitant for many out here at the moment.

I had no banking connection with OZ for a month, so got a Tech in from Wattana and he rang TT&T Max-net while he was on my computer. They said I was paying for Indy up to 4Mb that covers the local area only?

He had to reset the server for OVERSEAS, works fine now and very fast.

    For your info and action.

  15. Could anybody tell me of a good company in Pattaya to repair a leaking roof. Its been repaired before but its leaking again ( not sure if its the same leak).

    Thanks

I had numerous leaks due to cracked roofing and heavy rain blowing under tiles etc.

Tried a heap of guys with NO success.

Finally got onto a Thai guy fixed the lot and if it leaked again he came over when it was pouring to see where the problem was and fixed it.

His name is Alarn Mob No 0848545993.

Hope you have the same success. He cant speak english, so you will have to have an interpreter to explain to him.

  16. My problem is never a numb bum. It`s numb balls when I ride around on my VFR. I use it for at least an hour per day, usually more. A seat mod would be nice.

Rode all over Thailand on a Yamaha and found the seat hot and hard after a 100 kilometers. Bought a thick lambswool skin at the market, had it cut to fit over the seat and found it soft, cool and comfortable. Only have to remove it when it rains, put it in plastic bag until it passes. Have the place I bought it from at the market clean it for me. I am never without it, swear by it. Hope this helps.

  17. Maestro,

    Bang on me old mate,

"Trusts created whether directly or indirectly by will or any juristic act producing effect during lifetime or after death shall have no effect whatever"

The solution for foreign fathers is to put the ownership of properties under the name of their children. "My child is just only one month, how can I put the ownership of land under his name""

Can a juvenile own a property" The answer is "Yes" because there is no restriction even your child has a foreign name or double nationality.

If you put the ownership of property under the name of your child, you or your Thai wife cannot dispose of that land without the order of the Family Court in Chonburi. It means that your Thai wife cannot go to the Family Court alone without you to get the judicial order to sell the property.

In case that you have not registered marriage with your common law Thai wife, you may register the legitimacy of your child under 6 years old with the Family Court in Chonburi. If your child is over 6 years old, you just go to the District Office with your Thai common law wife.

Mu Thai father in law has just been given a heap of land in Lop Buri and wanted to have the Chanote put in his daughters name in case of his death, as he is ill with sugar diabetes. He was told by the land office, he could not as she was only 15 yoa and she had to be 18 yoa.

  18. ...Terrific article, hope the writer has his helmet on and all his documents in order next time he goes for a spin round the BKK streets... :D

No worries - the BiB don't read papers written in English. :D

2 things come to mind, one was the top cop up north banking all the money that was collected for traffic infringements and what ever else and instead of handing it out to all the other corrupt Police in his area, withdrew the lot of the cash and absconded never to be seen again. :D

The second was the boss of Police in Bangkok complaining he had been stopped 3 times in 2 kilometers by road blocks on his way home. He stated that he knows the Police have to subsidize their wages but said being stopped 3 times in that distance was ridiculous. He was actually accepting that they were corrupt and were doing this to get more money as they weren't being paid enough. :)

I could go on about a hundred different corrupt Police and their locations taking bribes, but the only thing that will make it change would be 1 to have an Internal Investigation Unit and 2 to have the Police start to book all offenders for breaking the road rules. By doing this the revenue would be astronomical in a country with such a high population. The Government would then be able to pay them a respectable wage and eliminate a lot of the corruption, purchase new vehicles, bikes, radar detectors, cameras at lights etc which would bring more revenue into the Police force. Just a thought :D

  19. I bought 1 Yamaha Nouvo 5 years ago in Pattaya whilst renting a Condo.

A year later I bought a house in my wife's name, a year ago I then traded in my bike and bought a new Nouvo Yamaha in Pattaya. 2 years ago I bought a new Isuzu 4WD in Lopburi and last month I bought a new 500CC Yamaha in Bangkok.

On all occasions I only had to take my Passport and and a copy of it, which states I am Retired, a letter from Immigration stating my address and what I wished to purchase CAR or BIKE, proof of address was either an electric bill, or a telephone bill with my name and address on it.

I have always had them in my name and I have always let the Dealer do the paperwork, except the paperwork from Immigration.

Hope this is a help. :)

  20. when transfering money from UK to Thai banks do the Thai banks make a standard charge ie if it is £100 or £1000

If you are using the Bangkok Bank there is no charge.

When you have money sent to Thailand, have your bank Telegraphic Transfer (TT) CASH, in my case to the Bangkok Bank as you get a better rate by TT CASH.

Stipulate to your home bank, not to convert to bart, TT cash only.

Hope this is a help. :)

  21. An interview with the owner of the Aussie Bar was shown on Australia Network this evening, All Steve Woods had to say was that the lady stole and now must pay the consequences.

Mr Woods uncompassionate attitude towards a fellow Aussie is very strange, the beer mat probably cost a whole 100 baht tops .

There must be more to this story than a simple case of night time stealing , having her passport removed and having to sit out up to 17 weeks in Thailand just to get a court appearance seems a bit of an overkill for such a petty offense .

I hope you are feeling pretty good about your failing to nip this stupidity in the bud Mr Wood.

Obviously you dont know the people who own the bar and you dont know the bar.

Both the owners are Australian and do nothing but help people when ever they can, they are both well mannered and courteous. They employ a lot of Thai staff.

It is the biggest bar in Bangla Road if not the biggest in Phuket and is usually crowded by visitors from all over the world.

As far as stealing goes I would find it hard to believe that it was not picked up on one of the 50 security cameras that make a recording of all incidents, these cameras are placed all over the upper and lower floors and bars. It was probably the security supervisor that contacted the police via 2 way radio or phone.

The woman stole the bar mat (THEFT), she was apprehended by police (ARRESTED) she abused the police and she ran away from the police (ESCAPE CUSTODY) I think she is lucky she has only been charged with (THEFT)

Nothing will change at the Aussie Bar and as for the dip stick that thinks it will or that it will even change tourism, you havent got a clue about life. :)
