I have a B.Sc degree, but I believe this requires further support. I am currently enrolling to do the PGCEi in order to obtain the licence. A friend pointed out my CELTA could well be enough.
Any degree plus CELTA doesn't qualify for the TCT teacher license.
A degree in education, any degree plus a post graduate diploma in education/ teaching profession or equivalent does.

What is all this about peer (teacher) evaluation? I have never done that. Does anyone have a link to any new rules posted up? I am up for renewal in October an if new stuff is brought in for new licences, it's only a matter of time until it comes in for renewals too.
Here you are. In a Thai TCT document I read that you should apply for renewal at least 180 days in advance.

The teacher I'm learning Thai with doesn't have one. No need. If she would have one for other purposes, she wouldn't give it to me. Why would she?

It vibes in higher revs

I bought a black Honda CB150R in October 2017. Currently 2,200 km on the clock. Use it for going to work, about 2 km from home, and driving in the sticks on a nice Sunday. In the past I had Waves, Clicks, Finos en Mooves. Just wanted to have something different. In my younger days in my home country I drove motorcycles. Ages ago the last one was a Honda 400F. The handling and roadholding of the CB150R are great. So are the brakes. The top speed is somewhere between 120 and 135 km/h. Cruising at 90 km/h is good. However, I do have problems with the vibrations of the motorcycle. Specifically the handle bars but also the fuel tank and seat. At my bike they start at about 4,500 revs. Had an expert over from Honda AP Bangkok after my complaints to my dealer in the province. Could even drive another CB150R of which I felt the bike was vibrating at higher revs than mine. i.e. 6,000 revs. Anyways, no acknowledgement from the Honda expert. My bike was fine according to expert. The mechanic changed my shift-light to 4,500 revs as if that would help anything. Guess I have to live with it. If I could do it over again, wouldn't have bought the Honda CB150R.

I've been asked to go to the ministry of education for an interview.
Probably because I'm a teacher.
Has anyone heard of this before?
While my tabien baan was in Bangkok, the NIA arranged the interview at the office of the Provincial Administrative Organisation of the province I was working in.

It's not the language setting. It"s "system locale.
Control Panel > Region > Administrative > Change system locale. -

Working all functional on my laptop and desktop. Both Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Using Bookmarks '2551 Program Version IV. Don't forget to set your 'system locale' to Thai.

Sigh, is it worth it?
Absolutely! Getting all the required paper work in place can be a pain but eventually your application is accepted by SB and you're in the process.

If you have a bachelor's degree, you can walk into a teaching job any day of the week. It may not be a good job, but there are many average jobs around.
Earning 40,000 THB as a TEFL teacher is not an easy task when you live upcountry. It's even much more difficult to earn that when you're a non-native speaker of English. -

Didn't you say before that you were not asked for your WP at the MOI interview?
I was asked for it at the MOI interview and an official even reminded me that the work permit was going to expire in about 2 weeks and that I should take care of it.

You do not have to submit your reserved thai name at SB.
It's a requirement. Without it, the process halts. I applied in August 2009. Received Thai Citizenship in January 2016. When I applied for my Thai ID, the official of the districts office asked me which name I wanted to use for the ID. The reserved Thai name or my foreign name. I chose for my foreign name.

I visited the local Revenue Office to change my tax ID number to correspond with my ID Card, but after the officers put their heads together to discuss it and consulted with the chief, the answer was that it is not possible to do so and that I should continue using my then current tax ID number.
Same here but when I had to submit some extra documents to the regional revenue department, they took a copy of my Thai ID and recorded its data in their system. My employer is still using the old tax ID number though.
However, my employer did take care that my SSO number became changed. My SSO number is now the same as my Thai ID number.

Will leaving the country as foreigner and come back as Thai work for this purpose? Say, heading to Cambodia by land, leave Thailand as foreigner (=visa is closed, body is left Thailand), swap the passport to Thai and re-enter to Thailand as Thai next minute?
I read somewhere on here that this won't work on land borders as your Thai passport hasn't been stamped-in at the Cambodian side. Therefore you can't get a stamped-out. By air the process seems to work.

I'm on my 5th waiver. There is no limit, this is Thailand remember.
You're lucky, Neeranam. Some foreign teachers get their fifth temporary teaching permit while others can't get more than three.

Would you think it possible for me to get the 4th one with the school where I'm working?
I think only when you enroll a graduate diploma in teaching/ education course.

Section 46 of the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council Act, B.E. 2546 (2003) forbids any person from claiming the right to teach or to practice the teaching profession without being licensed by the Teachers’ Council. Educational institutions are also forbidden to employ as teachers anyone who is not specifically licensed or granted explicit permission by the Teachers’ Council.
In view of the requirements of educational institutions in developing educational programs, there is a need for foreign teachers to engage in instruction and supervise study in said institutions. The head of an educational institution must state the intent to the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, to employ an individual to fill a teaching vacancy when a licensed teacher cannot be employed if the criteria and conditions given below are satisfactorily met.
1. Criteria for Granting of Permission
Foreigners who are not holders of professional teachers’ licenses can be employed as teachers provided that they are qualified according to the following:
1.1 Not younger than 20 years of age
1.2 Satisfy one of the following requirements:
(1) Have qualifications not less than that of being holders of a degree in education or its equivalent or
(2) Have qualifications not less than that of being holders of a bachelor’s degree in an area needed by an educational institution requiring carrying out teaching duties or
(3) Are not holders of a degree, and they hold a teaching license from another country
1.3 Are devoid of prohibited personal attributes as specified in Section 44 (B) of the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council Act, B.E. 2546 (2003)
2. Conditions for granting permission are as follows:
2.1 Educational institutions must request permission in specific cases. Foreigners must teach in educational institutions under the control of the head of educational institutions of said educational institutions in accordance with the conditions specified in their teaching permit.
2.2 No more than two years can be allowed in a single permission period and can be extended for a total period of not more than six years.
2.3 The person granted permission to teach is required to satisfy professional qualifications for a teaching license within a period of six years from the first permission of teaching permit.
2.4 If the person granted permission to teach violates professional ethics, does not adhere to the conditions specified, or does not satisfy the professional development standards, conditions and methods specified by the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, said person’s permission to teach shall be revoked. -

Another option would be to sit the TCT teacher's examinations. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.
That option was abandoned 5 years ago.
8 minutes ago, DavisH said:It would be worth for the OP to contact the TCT and find out now, which courses would be accepted by them for qualifying for the full teacher's licence. I would think the course can be done over a year and be much less than 100K.
IFUGAO provides such a graduate diploma in teaching course. One year of study and around 60,000 THB.
9 minutes ago, DavisH said:I would think a PGCEi (UK) would also qualify a one for the Thai teacher's licence.
Two foreign teachers I personally know received the TCT teacher license with this qualification. It costs a 140,000 THB though.
