  1. Can anyone please let me know what options I have to travel form Bangkok Airport to Prakhon Chai. I am arriving on Tuesday 3rd November at 18.20 hours and I want to get to Prakhon Chai asap. I am happy to travel overnight.

    You have three options.

    1. Take a taxi for about 3.000 BHT

    2. Take the buss from Mochit buss station for about 700BHT

    3. Take a flight to Buriram airport and then take a buss or taxi. not sure the of the cost.

If you like option one pm me and I will send you the phone number of the taxi driver that I use. The driver speaks English and has a decent car.

    Cheers

    Gun

Wow!! This thread has been alive for a LONG time! I wonder how long ago the OP checked out and if he ever got his gun :)

    HI Ricklee,

I am the original OP and a shotgun was purchased I guess about a year ago. The whole threat seems to be more about gun control than my question of where to purchase.

I was thinking to open a new thread to discuss different types of ammunition but that would start the rambling on of some people.

Just to stir up the rambling on of people in this threat I have added this video of hollow point bullets recalled that fail to explode targets

    happy shooting

  2. I have just bought a Bullmastiff female pup from Somneuk after visiting his kennels last week, He has some wonderful dogs and runs his kennels very well.

He showed me a few of his Rotweillers and Bullmastiffs all were beautiful and well trained.

One particular Bullmastiff stud looked magnificent.

I recommend his kennels whole heartedly. I have been searching high and low for a bullmastiff in Thailand for a very long time so i am over the moon.

    :o

    Hi Lukey

do you have pictures of your Bullmastiff? how much did you pay for the pup?

    Regards,

  3. After loosing my three and half years old Golden Retriever to a heat stroke, I've decided to raise Thai Bangkaew dogs, thinking they will be less prone to hot weather related health problems. I've got a one and a half year old male since he was eight month old and recently aquired a 5 month old female. Both of them are very attached to all family members (wife and daugther) but seems quiet agressive with any body coming to visit us, is that a normal behavior? I've also noticed that, outside the house, when going for a walk, they seems to be a bit "wild', always on their guard, not letting any body coming to close; a big difference compared to my retriever.

All the web sites and forum related to this breed are in Thai language, therefore I will be very happy to find somebody with knowledge and experience to share. Thank you.

I also would like more information on the Bangkaew dogs.

I am returning to Thailand in a couple of months and was looking at getting a couple of Thai Ridgebacks but my wife is talking about the Bangkaew instead.

I don't know this breed of dog but here is a website with details about the dog.

Your description of the Bangkaew temperament seems to be an accurate one

    Hope it helps

  4. I found a page about dogos breeders in Thailand and I know they have pit(bull)s. I saw a guy walking a HUGE one around like din daeng i think. I'm thinking about just buying one when I get back to Thailand since there are dogos breeders there and all that paper work is sounding very...tidious :o . If anyone has any numbers or websites about any of the forementioned dogs in Thailand more info would be appreciated, aswell as (Dog)training schools. I dont think I will find any kangals either..

I am not sure for what purpose you want a dog but kangals are not something you keep around the home. I also think that the hot climate is not suited for this breed.

  7. Lads,

If you own a house on a main village road and have the facilities to open a small business consider an "ice cream buffet"

Against my better judgement my wife persisted in this enterprise and what a winner it has proven to be. You have to put a few flash bistro table and chairs in and a bit of flash but believe me...if you live in a remote Issan area the young ones will come and spend , it will be a meeting place.

Oh, you also need to sell Jugs of Vodka Ice Slushies to keep them coming back after dark.....honestly , location is a must and the rest is easy PM me if you live more that 20km away ha ha

    Hello Khunandy,

Just wondering where you get the ice cream from? Can’t the locals get there whisky at any local shop just as easy?

    Cheers

  8. Hello all,

I am considering to buy this model ATV P184-250. is this an actual known brand or is this just a Chinese copy.

I plan to replace my old motorcycle with this. All the wet roads make me think that this is a lot saver than all that slipping and sliding around. The reason I like this one is because it looks strong and dependable. I still have to ask my wife to translate the technical stuff but for some reason I don't think I will understand her.

Anyone have experience with this brand?

    Thanks

  9. Hi,

I tried last night to join their scheme as well. I got to the same position TBWG, I have not bothered to e-mail them yet.

Might be handy if it ever takes off, I use them at least ten times a year on the Nakhon Phanom/ Sakhon Nakhon route.

I wonder if visiting their office in Nakhon Phanom in person would bring about any progress ?

    Best Regards

    Mr Conrad

    Hi

Still no reply to my e mail and I must say that I do not now expect a reply :o Currently I am in the UK so phoning them is not really an option. I return to Thailand in a months time so will visit Buriram airport and see what staff have to say.

Shame really as this is a great little operator with nice equipment but let down by poor customer relations.

    TBWG :D

What do they charge for a flight from Bangkok to Buriram? One way 2 way? do you know if they have a website where I can book online?

See attached website which gives fares and Timetable ..... http://www.pbair.com/en-TH/inside/frameset/home.php

    TBWG :D

Great thanks. I am not sure how much I trust their website to make a purchase but good to know.

  11. Yup perhaps, dont think so though. Papa doesnt know about me yet (though we suspect he does but isnt saying anything) but her mother, sister, son, daughter have been to Pattaya to meet me. All went well. Papa to be told if/when , me/she ready.

Have seen photos of village so that will probably have to do until I finally get there.

A friend of mine had the same situation he met the whole family except the father. In the end after 2 years the father got sick and died so he never got to meet him. It just makes me think about the whole family relations ship to keep such secrets from each other especially between husband and wife. Maybe I should start interrogating the wife to see what she is keeping from me :o

Best of luck and I hope it works out.

  12. Thanks lampard10. Father is an important man in the area so she doesnt want him to lose face if she/me dont work out . Been 18 months perhaps give another year and I'll get to see the village.

Maybe she dos not want you to meet her husband/boyfriend.

  13. HI,

I don’t really know or believe to much about this black magic stuff but I wanted to let you know my small experience and I hope it might help you.

My wife greatly believes in black magic and we spotted the neighbors trying to take pictures of me. My wife thinks that they will use this to do some sort black magic on me or us. This happened about 2 months ago.

My wife was really worried about this and as if by coincidence an old spiritual man from Cambodia came by the house. Now this man has some history with the family over the years and only seems to pop up when there is some fear of black magic in the family. So this guy was the answer to all our problem!! ( I still don’t know what the problem was as I am a skeptic when it comes to black magic)

I ended up with some sort of protective string around my waist. It’s a red string with some beads on it. I am supposed to wear it all the time to protect me against the black magic. After a week of pleasing my wife I asked how long I was supposed to wear this. The answer was that I should keep it on until it drops of. My thought was that this can take 10 or more years so I said no no no. the compromise was to hang the string by our bed.

Well I am not sure if this helps you but over the last two months no bad things have happened.

    Best of luck

  14. Hello all,

I recently had a discussion with a copal of farang about eucalyptus plantation. The main consensus was that you can plant about 8000 trees on 10 rai of land and then after about 4 years you can sell the trees for about THB 100= THB 800.000. Once the trees have been cut they will regrow up to 3 times. The discussion went a bit further that if you use 20 rai and only harvest 5 rai a year you could have a steady income of THB 400.000 a year for 12 years.

I am wondering what other people think about this? Are these figures possible?

    Cheers

    Amsterdam

Amsterdam, the figures you quote is giving a return of 20k per annum per rai.

If those sort of returns were available from eucalypt you would see 90% of rural Thailand under eucalyptus plantation.

800 trees per rai is about 1.5m spacing both ways, it could be done but the growth rate would be abysmal and the fertilizer cost to get them to grow at all would not be cost effective. As well this leaves no access for maintenance or harvesting,so everything would have to be done by hand at greater cost.

Trellis planting (1.5 m) is usually with rows 2-3m apart which only gives 340-520 trees per rai.

Reasoning would indicate that if as your figures suggest ,eucalyptus would return 100-300% higher profit than most other crops , what the outcome would be.

I have seen a few times where harvesting crews tell you they will be back in 4 years to give you 12-13k per rai for your timber but when they turn up in 4 years they offer 8-9k per rai.

Look in on a yard selling nice straight 4 year old scaffolding poles for 75-80baht each and not to forget that price includes their harvesting, transportation and profit margin gives you an idea of what you will ultimately receive, whether it is by per tree or per tonne for wood chips.

Thank you for the info. This makes me think that it might be better to stick to Rice. Looking at your figure of a return after 4 years of about 8K per rai. I think with today's prices after all expenses I should be able to clear 2K per rai a year with rice and that is similar to the trees.

    Cheers

    Gun

    Hello Gun Lovers.

    Here is another update…

Since I have started this discussion My wife has purchased a shot gun for 25K which I have previously mentioned. I asked my Wife to go practice and we went to the local army base where we where allowed to shoot a copal of rounds. It was kind of funny to see because the six or seven army guy’s had never seen such a gun. One guy was shooting with a .22 Rifle and then we showed up with what looks like a cannon. Well to make a long story short My wife let them try out the shot gun and they all ended up with sore shoulders. I must admit that my wife also has a sore shoulder but I am glad she knows how to shoot it.

I was just surprised at how easy it was to go and shoot at the army base. We drove over and simply asked to use the shooting range. There was no targets or anything to shoot at so we just shot at some sticks and a soda can. I made a joke that the next time I will bring some chickens and they responded that we should bring a pig he he… I am not saying that I am going to drive over the army base with some chickens and a pig but in the end I think it Is okay to kill the pig or chicken as long as you eat it. I will probably bring some other targets to practice on the next time.

    Cheers

  15. My wife has a small business that is doing well locally. We have discussed it and believe that it is time to create a website.

I am now trying to find someone to hire to do this for me. I have done an initial search of companies offering these services but I would like to hear if anyone on this site has any recomendations of companies they have used in the past and how much they paid for these services.

I would also like some advice as to what questions I should be asking when talk to these companies or pit falls that I should try and avoid.

    Requirements:

    1. Doesn't need to be overly fancy but should look professional (not home-made)

    2. Would include approximately 100-200 pictures of products

    3. Would include a online purchasing tool

    4. Primary target is English speakers, but depending on the cost Thai and other Languages may be added as well.

    5. Search Engine Optimization (although from what I have read this may have to wait 3 months before it can be done)

Maybe my friend can help you out. http://www.lijbers.com/ he is currently in bangkok but in a week or two he might move up north not sure.

    Best of luck

Yes i think it can be done, but prices ?, i am planting 3000 Eucas for 5 years, then i will have a rotation in crop, i have planted our first crop at 1.5 metres apart, and they are doing well, had a few die but no big deal, we will sell as pulp or scaffolding poles, there are now a lot of thais who have got into this, this worrys me a little as supply and demand, this will have an effect on the prices, we have only done this as we have spare land doing nothing.

ok but at today's prices what could you get for a 5 year old tree? thb 100? did you plant the trees near watter?
