1. Hello all,

I recently had a discussion with a copal of farang about eucalyptus plantation. The main consensus was that you can plant about 8000 trees on 10 rai of land and then after about 4 years you can sell the trees for about THB 100= THB 800.000. Once the trees have been cut they will regrow up to 3 times. The discussion went a bit further that if you use 20 rai and only harvest 5 rai a year you could have a steady income of THB 400.000 a year for 12 years.

I am wondering what other people think about this? Are these figures possible?

    Hello gun lovers,

I ended up purchasing a shot gun for THB 25.000 and for a box of 25 bullets the price is THB 900. the phone number of the shop is (02) 623-8433, (02) 623-7739. I suggest you call the shop as they will be able to explain the procedure of obtaining the gun license to you.

    Gun

Thank you all for the info. I think that on Friday I will check out gun row in Bangkok. As said I can not own a gun in Thailand but my wife can. I would never dear to shoot a gun :o . I like the shot gun for home protection but my preference this time is for a hand gun. I have checked on the internet what gun prices are in the US and done the conversion in THB. Here is my list of preferred guns.

    Walther P99 THB 25.000

    Colt 1911-A1 THB 25.000

    Browning M1935 THB 20.000

    Beretta 92FS THB 21.000

    Taurus PT92 THB 17.000

I am curious to see if these guns are available on gun row. I am realistic that these prices are not the same in Thailand but maybe I should be able to pick one up for THB 50.000.

My preferred 9mm for maximum stopping power.

    9mm luger Remington golden saber box 124grain HPJ(+p) 25 rds THB 831

Winchester ranger 147 grain SXT 50 rds THB 831

I don't know if I can find this kind of 9mm in Thailand but would be great to have. Once I have seen the shops in Bangkok I will let you all know what I find out there. I will also check out the gun shop mentioned in Buriram on Tuesday if I can find it.

    Cheers

PS: it is not my intention to start a debate about gun's. I only would like to find out and share information on where to purchase them.

    Hello gun lovers!!!

so I am back from Bangkok. I found out that most guns go for around THB 80.000+ 9mm rounds are about 40bht each but you can get discount if you buy in bulk :D . A shot gun can be purchased for about THB 30.000. There where a lot of stores I did not count them but must have been 20+. My next destination will be buriram to see what they sell over there.

I am starting to think that the shot gun is a better purchase as we live on 60+ rai. The range of the shot gun is further and the fear effect is greater. I have to admit that the cost aspect has to do with is as well. I think that my wifer might have to change her permit from a 9mm to a shotgun.

Well I will keep you posted on the buriram shops and what the final gun will be.

    cheers

We (my wife and I) recently went through the process of legally obtaining a gun. I think a 9mm may be too big for your needs, suggest .38mm. I would be surprised if you can get a premit for a 9mm.

Also I would suggest travelling to Bkk to buy the gun - there is very little to choose from in Ubon, I understand.

We purchased a .385 Smith & Wesson revolver for just over Bt90K. The semi autos can be got for about Bt50-60K.

I just found out that the permit my wife is obtaining is for a 9mm and she will be allowed to carry it around concealed. I was a bit surprised about this. I should know next week if the permit is approved. I will provide more info on how she got the permit if she gets it but it’s all legal and so far only BHT 800 has been paid.

    cheers

In actuality it was my wife father who suggested the idea to purchase a gun for self defense and I thought it was a good idea. No the gun is not for him and will not be made available to him.

    He probably already has one,

Now let me ask you this. The land you live on and the home you live in is that in your name or your wife name? although I don't know you I would bet that most farang who live in Issan live in a home they paid for but do not own.

Correct, but a roof over your head is a basic necessity. (and the way you phrased that question is a good indicator that you have not spent that that much time here, here being Isaan)

I don't want to go off topic any more on this but I will be happy to debate/discuss this if you pm me.

I'd prefer not to thanks, I don't think that anyone should own a gun for recreational purposes if it is to be used outside of a recreational facility, you do, on that we will never agree, so there is no point.

I told you.......... :D .....well I'll stick to my swords.......and let my wife practise to hit bulls eye! :o

Now my wife dos not feel the need to go to a shooting range but is convinced that we should practice on our land (oops sorry don’t want to offend people her land). Now the land is large enough to do so but I am afraid that I will have to insist to going to a shooting range.

    cheers

    Gun

By the way, the argument which equates owning a gun with owning land is just silly. A foreigner can legally lease land here.

A foreigner can legally lease/rent a gun at a shooting range as well. SAME SAME.

This is off topic please pm me if you want to discuss further.

    Gun

And I will ask the first question i asked again .... to the OP.... why do you want a gun?

It's a fairly simple question and if you can't answer it without beating around the bush about ammo availability and questioning gun laws ..... well, you shouldn't really be allowed to have one.

I want a gun for home protection. A copal of rounds in the air will scare off an intruder. Shooting an intruder would be of last resort. But this is off topic and would rather stick to where to buy a gun what price and what model..

Given the difference in tone between your first post and then this one, please excuse me for saying that I think you are talking utter <deleted> in this instance. (<deleted> is a humorous word for testicles in English)

You want a gun because you just want a gun, and that's it really, I can practically guarantee that your wife doesn't want one for self protection and has probably filled in the paperwork under sufferance.

Copal that (sic) with the well reported facts that most crimes of house theft in Thailand occur when you aren't actually there or are asleep and don't get the chance to wake up before the deed is done, having a shotgun propped up in a corner, or in a nice display cabinet, is seriously a bad move, a really bad move.

Now please, just admit it, you fancy having a gun to shoot small furry animals and other harmless recreational purposes (sat) .... you shouldn't be allowed to have one .... a catapult will suit you sir.

In actuality it was my wife father who suggested the idea to purchase a gun for self defense and I thought it was a good idea. No the gun is not for him and will not be made available to him.

I would love to go hunting furry animals if there are areas legal to do so. I would how ever not go hunting with a hand gun. This might be a good new post to ask where this is possible.

I don’t want to go off topic any more on this but I will be happy to debate/discuss this if you pm me. For now in this forum I will only discuss GUNS and where to get them for a good price.

    Cheers

Any reason why you picked a revolver over semi auto? I guess the maintenance is easier, but are there other reasons?

The revolver trigger mechanism cannot be fired accidentally, especially for a second shot. You really have to pull it positively and can feel when it is about to fire, I am told that the semi auto is also more likely to jam. Also, I believe, that it is easier to check if it is loaded or not. I suggest you try both to compare.

The 9mm will have quite a kick and maybe more difficult for a woman to control. The .38 slugs are quite common and cost Bt30 each.

ok thanks for the info. i will take a look at the gun..

There must be quite a bit of duty on handguns ,(or big margins) The S&W model 385 in .357 magnum sells for $800 US in the states.

The .357 magnum is a good choice in a revolver as it gives the option of using the magnum shell or the more user friendly .38 if a woman is firing it.

Imported guns are very expensive in Thailand. Lots of tax. The prices above sound in the ballpark according to the gun magazines I have read.

    however

If you are police, or a member of the armed services you are entitled to a 60% (I think) discount off the price of the firearm.

    Cheers,

    Soundman.

So if I bring a police officer along I might be able to get a big discount? I might just bring one along. I will check on Friday in Bangkok if this is true.

    Gun

    Amsterdam your OP said,

I should have all the legal documents done by the end of this week to own a gun in my wife name.

You seem surprised/offended that people are commenting on this statement rather than your questions - even though you are asking people to advise you on how to break the law.

I will admit to being firmly anti-gun ownership. but that is not the point here. I am sure even most of those law abiding people who admit to supporting gun ownership would be against people obtaining them illegally.

Okay I admit to some people that this sentence could be misleading but there is nothing illegal going on. Simply purchasing a gun with permit for a Thai national.

If I only asked where a gun shop is people would have started the same conversation asking me if all the legal documents are in order and that only Thai people can own guns. So in both cases including or excluding the statement about obtaining a gun permit I will be challenged by people like you. I only wanted to give some background by letting people know that I don't need help obtaining a gun permit and that the gun is for the wife.

I hope this clears the issue up for you that there is nothing illegal going on. Simply asking about location of gun shops and the price of guns.

    Cheers

    Gun

Yeah, that's the main point here: how can it possibly be legal to buy a gun in someone else's name and use it yourself? I'm not debating the morals of the issue, or whether foreigners in Thailand can own guns, simply that you can't just shoot someone if you're not licensed to carry a gun! I think the example of the sports club is off topic, since it's clearly not your intended purpose for the firearm.

Having a gun license is not the same as having a license to kill. I am sure that if you walk around with a legal gun it’s not permitted to just shoot and kill people. My main point of starting this discussion is not to debate about the issues around gun’s but simply to find out where the gun shops are and what the cost of a new gun would be.

How can you own a gun in your wifes name??????

If the documents are done with the wifes name on surely its her gun and you cannot touch it as you havent got a license. Also i thought that farangs cannot legaly own a gun???

That's why it's put in the wifes name.............................. :o

So let me see if I understand this correctly.

The OP is requesting how he can illegally acquire a gun and people here are trying to help him.

I always thought that acquiring firearms illegally was a pretty serious criminal offence.

Will you be telling him how to make home-made explosives later?

I am purchasing this gun legally. Please read all the post and not just one misguided person.

I have read all the posts.

As far as I'm aware it is illegal for a foreigner to purchase a gun in Thailand.

that is why it is purchased in my wife name and not a foreigner as clearly mentioned.

    Gun

When you keep saying i,you mean your wife.So you are just getting info for your wife but she has to have the gun of your choice.Everything is clear as mud now.Sounds like the gun is for you but you put it in your wifes name to get one.Is she having lessons or a professional gangster lol

I think you understand me. The main point is that I can not own a gun but my wife can. So the logical step is to buy it in her name. The application has been done in the local city and is now gone to Bangkok for approval. It should be back next week. With the official gun permit we can purchase the gun and I believe that we are supposed to register it again in the local city. It’s all nice and legal.

    • Any idea what new run of the mill 9mm would cost?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  2. Anyone else know of places to purchase fireworks in Issan, with some direction to get there??????

I got some in December in PrakhonChai I will check end of this month if they still sell fireworks.

  3. I have not read the whole discussion but I did notice that you decided not to come to Amsterdam!! Even though it is to late here is my advice if you where to come here.

1- ask for the 30% tax ruling (this will exclude 30% of your income from tax)

2- ask them to set you up in an apartment for 6 months while looking for your own place

3- 1 bedroom apartment will cost you about €1000 a month

4- €60K is hard to figure out if that is a good salary since I don't know your work experience but it sounds ok.

I personally think that depending on how you live you could save between €10K and €15K a year that is THB 500K to 750K

Now Amsterdam is a fun place to live and very international but trust me I prefer Thailand.

    Good choice to stay there

don't think she ended up getting the job, Amsterdam...

I know I mentioned something to that effect in the first and last sentence.

  5. Thailand is a great place to live but you need to learn to take a step back and walk away no need to get upset about things like this. Every little thing will end up bugging you. I hope you do come back and experience more of Thailand as It is a great country to live/visit.
