Couldn't the residents join together, a few 100 Baht each, to solve the issue? Surely wouldn't be that difficult to find someone to remove the trash for cash. Where they eventually will deposit the garbage is another issue...

I have seen people throwing their garbage over a fence on other people vacant land. One day a blue sewage truck backed up to someone's property, Gov or private, and emptied their truck. Of course it was on a road with few cars passing by to see them.

  2. Anyone have any current up to date information concerning the direct deposits through the NY BKK Bank and the cutoff date of 1 January 2020. DFAS in secure messaging sent me the IDD deposit form and had me send to them. Found a IDD form for SS, filled it out and sent to FBU in Manila along with a cover letter and to emails from the BKK Bank in BKK and BKK Bank in NY explaining what the Government paying agents had to do. It is evident from the reply I received back that they really don't understand why I want them to change my direct deposit to the IDD IAT direct deposit, even though I used the new SSA form for International direct deposits to Thailand.

Has anyone else learned anything current on the situation?

  3. Nine pages of discussing legal or illegal Agents. The legit ones provide valuable service because they know the legal rules and make sure all the forms are accomplished by them and all the information is correctly entered. The legit ones are well known in the community and usually provide a host of other services including translation services, wills, etc. Have used the same one for four years now for retirement and marriage extensions. The girl in the office who handles all the marriage visas is the most organized and proficient people I've had the pleasure of working with, With arthritis and diabetic neuropathy  in my writing hand I could never had filled out all the forms, let alone being 20 K from immigration office. It was well worth the 7,000 I paid for their expertise and service.

  4. Mine too. Go to Bkk branch that can process application for Direct Deposit. Must have local Thai address. They will issue your direct deposit bankbook and account number. Go to mypay account (military) and click on direct deposit and enter the NY BBK routing number and your account number. If you do before 15th they will change by EOM payday. Social security will get your information routed from local Bkk branch to BKK branch in Bkk. Bkk will send your SS information to NY branch and SS.

Advise SS you contact by Email and give them your SS info, and direct deposit Account number and your local address.

My AF account started same month and SS two months later for third month deposit.

CM I/O accepted my 7 months of deposits, but advised next year we need full 12 months. No problem if you keep your money going to direct deposit.

  5. Yes agree about the negativity. Some have to negatively comment on everything and everyone. Thailand is a great place to visit and live. I first came to Thailand from Guam on 4 r and r's, the in later years for 5 years, came once or twice a year for 3 weeks at a time to look for handcrafts for my import business. For the last 24 years have lived here working part of the time. The people have always been friendly, the fruits and vegetables, and markets great. Costs reasonable. Forget reading any comments by complainers and sarcastic members. There are many in this sight that try to be very helpful to all. Come and enjoy what Thailand has to offer. Think good always and roll with the rules of the country and you will enjoy everything the country has to offer.

  6. Have used Tricare and Tricare OS since retiring from military in 87. Used Tricare in Thailand for 23 years. After yearly deduction of $150 of allowable, they pay 75% of allowable and you pay 25%. Over $3000 allowable charges in the year they pay 100% for rest of year. Starts over on Jan 1.

You can obtain a letter verifying your coverage by going online to DFAS account and following their directions. If legally married to a Thai wife, you can go through JUSTMAG Bangkok and get her signed up in DEERS system for ID card.

The I/O that processed our marriage extension seemed to know about Tricare Medical coverage already.  You can fill out and scan DD Tricare form, form filled out by Dr. and proof of payment receipt and send directly to Tricare for processing online. They will send refund direct deposit to a US account or send check to you here. Does not cover eye or teeth care, and a few other things. Google Tricare Overseas claim portal and sign up for an account.

Thanks for that constructive and well thought out post.

Many people have lived here many years and love it and don't find it boring, indeed, still discovering new things after 12 years living here.

23 years living in Chiang Mai with family.. Prior to that came 5 years for my export business. Only problem for me is during pollution periods get allergies and Bronchitis now and then. You can find good and bad everywhere if you look hard enough.

  8. Guess some members feel they have to be unkind and make unkind comments to get there count up. I understand what its like to take a 18 or 20 hour flight before the hours of check ins and security checks. Why is it important to unnecessarily criticize the poster for using the word Swampy. My wish is that the moderators would just delete the hundreds of negative stuff posted on TV blogs and especially on Thai news articles.

  9. I have never had any problem with police stops. Here in Chiangmai, especially around most to go to market (lived outside area in PaDaet) I would get stopped on each side of the most for a drivers license check. I now just pull over when I see them them and pull out my drivers license and show them. They are always polite. Never ask for money for last 23 years. Last week I used canal road out just before turn to Gov Office. I had a poncho on because of looking rainy, wear n95 mask, and helmut. I pulled over. The friendly policeman looked at me and said "You have a license?" I said yes. He never looked and waved me on. I said here I'll show you. He said, "I believe you," smiled and waved me on. That eas a first! I've always found them friendly if your respectful. The good job they are doing is stopping the kids without helmets, licences, and registrations which is great.

  10. I Have not been fingerprinted yet because I haven't gone anywhere since fingerprinting started. When I leave and/or come back, what is the procedure I should follow so I don't double Queue coming or going.

  11. Ubonjoe, 1. Can you confirm the need for a copy of your prior divorce document. This is the first I've heard this. My marriage cert and Kor two indicates wife took my name and my change of address and TM 30 by wife indicates our new address. What divorce document are they looking for?

    2. How long before appointment can we order a BKK credit advice and Bkk letter. Live in Nong-Han, a long way from CM Immigration. Thx in advance.

  12. I used to rent a shop house. Father of landlord, married to Phillpino, died. In order for her to stay here in CM, she changed to support by daughter in University. She said, indicated that if a child is working, she told me they told her no problem using that method. Check for details at Immigration or agent for paperwork and qualifications.
