Thanks everyone. I am in Bangkok if that has a bearing on the wait.
This is the reply I got when I registered (17th December):
"Your registration for the FIRST dose of COVID-19 vaccination is successful.
Once available appointment slot is sent to your email, please confirm within 24 hours.Failure to confirm within 24 hours will result in the cancellation of your preregistration."
(Sorry, perhaps I should have included that in the original post).

Hello,
I've registered successfully as a foreigner to get my first vaccine (over a month ago) but not heard anything since. Is this expected? How long should this take do you think?I'm on a marriage visa from the UK, if that makes a difference? Maybe the scheme has been silently stopped?

He allows local governments to artificially stimulate the economy by creating ghost cities and other unnecessary infrastucture. They do this because the central govt requires them to spend funds to increase the GDP. If their GDP doesn't rise, the government penalizes them.
The size of state owned industries has actually increased relative to private industries which are the dynamic part of the economy.
Because education is so underfunded in China parents have to spend a huge part of their incomes on tutoring for their children. They can't afford to raise more than one child. China is facing a huge drop in its working age population as older workers retire and there aren't enough workers to replace them.
It seems more likely that China will end up in what's called a middle income trap. With the heavy hand of government suppressing competition from the private sector.
As for Russia...you've got to be kidding...
Pretty much it., though I'd stress more their demographic situation, which truly is dire, including a serious gender imbalance, and an 'official' birth rate of 1.6. Add in a huge public debt, to be financed by ever fewer workers, and the burden of one child supporting two parents in retirement (that's happening right now....), and I cannot see any way that China will avoid at least several decades of actual decline.

Particularly one so much in need of tourists. All those "gap year" students he's scared off as well as the retirees who, pre covid, might have planned coming here are now looking elsewhere to countries that DON'T go out of their way to make coming and staying here an expensive pain.
Exactly. Some of those such visitors (myself included) ended up living here precisely because of the great time we had when we were younger. We kept coming back and spending money.

It's not going away, any reduction in measures will be met with a proportional increase in infections.
But it's almost like they're beginning to realise that something's changed since last year - this is not the same scenario that happened in Europe in 2020.
There's nowhere near as many deaths here when you compare them to detected infections.
There's been a million detected infections in Thailand with 9562 deaths.
In the UK when they reached 1 million detected infections (October 31, 2020) there had been 46,645 deaths
In Italy at 1 million infections (November 11, 2020) there had been 42,953 deaths.
That's quite a difference, likely many contributing factors to this, especially population age and of course it's not the same virus that it was a year ago...it's mutated multiple times since then so I guess it's kind of hard to compare as it's not comparing like with like.
I'd be very careful about comparing international figures, because they are gathered in different ways. The UK and Italy in particular have been using a very broad measure to calculate their 'covid deaths' (notice that they never say 'deaths caused by covid' - a subtle but important difference). Thus, at one point the case fatality rate, if you went by the UK's 'covid deaths' figures, was 13%, while all the Doctors/virologists etc were anticipating approx 1% fatality rate.
In the UK it really has been the case that if you died of a heart attack, within 28 days of receiving a positive covid test result, you were included in the 'Covid Deaths' figures. The ONS and PHE have been very clear that this is what they've done, but most people erroneously conflated 'death by covid' with 'death involving covid'.- 1

The British rupee? GBP 1 = 42.49 THB a long way from 75.
There is no possibility of a resurgence of the British rupee. The opposite is more likely as Brexit unravels further.
What? Are you saying that any serious investor hasn't already priced that in? That they would wait until it happens before they sell?

A 'double dip recession' implies that there would be a period of improvement in the economy between the dips. Where would this improvement come from, with tourism prohibited, and much of the country in Lockdown?
All the businesses I frequent are on their knees, with their landlords threatening to kick them out if they don't catch up with their rent - but who would replace them anyway?
I think a more accurate description would be a Depression, not Recession, as even more people are reaching the end of their savings, or the tolerance of their creditors.
Additionally, it is not just their tourism sector in trouble. 10% of Thai exports are vehicles. Well, apart from delivery bikes, who is using their vehicles more, thus requiring replacement? People who don't leave the house and have taken a pay cut don't generally buy new vehicles! Further, people in Thailand are using taxis/motorbikes or their own vehicles much less, so there is another pillar of the economy (production for domestic use) that has declined. Then, factor in the spending that these providers used to make, that they no longer can....
There is no economic growth in this country, nor will there be any time soon - quite the reverse. I'm getting my money out of Thailand asap.- 1

It seems to be tracking the 99% will survive ratio quite well.

relating to the person who claimed that the disease has more than a 99% survival rate.
Well, I've looked at the fatality rates from around the world and the number of PUBLISHED fatalities compared to the number of PUBLISHED cases does indeed work out at about a 1% fatality rate. This is easy maths.
If you think the 99% figure is wrong, can you show some evidence for a different one?- 6

We are at a stage where people need hope more than money.
Er, not if you have exhausted your savings over the last 18 months, will imminently be out of business, and are worried about paying for rent and food. Hope doesn't fix these things. The 'cure' is fast becoming worse than the disease.

First thing I was told when looking for health insurance here was, stay away from any Thai insurers, made sense then, makes sense now.
Also cheaper isn't necessarily better as the saying goes.
Yes, that's what I did.

Hello everyone, thanks for your replies.
I'd like to clarify: I was considering the options regarding how to apply - I earn > ฿40 k but have only made one transfer to Thailand, as I've only been here a short time. I was hoping this would be an option, but it doesn't appear to be so.
Additionally, can we clarify, if I simply extend the visa for 60 days, that does not prevent me from then extending for a year based on Marriage when my money 'seasons'?
Thanks again. -
Hello,
I have the money in the bank, and wish to extend for a year, but annoyingly, it will only be 2 months in the bank 2 days after my visa expires.
Are there any options? I do earn more than ฿40000 a month from abroad and could prove this with PDF payslips.
Is it possible just to extend the visa twice, taking me over the 2 month threshold?
Kind Regards to all. -

May I ask what your visa status is and if this was pertinent to acceptance by the bank?
Non-O. I think it was pertinent as the bank staff asked about the visa type.

Thanks again everyone - I have now got a bank account at Krungsri. Went with the wife. We also had form TM31 which although is not the usual form from immigration, seemed to be useful.
I also got an oblique apology from the wife after her complaints about her opening a bank account in Britain..... ????

Ok thanks everyone, sorry not replied sooner but I couldn't get onto the site. There is a lot of good information here about the REALITY of getting a bank account. Thanks again.

Hello,
I've just got out of ASQ and need to get a Thai bank account. We visited BKK Bank but were told we need a letter from the embassy. However, the lady did not know for sure what the letter should contain.
After browsing this forum, I'm still not 100% sure, but am guessing it is the Affirmation of Residency letter - is that right?
Many thanks. -

I have thought ban is still only in bangkok (and samut sakhon), the rest of red provinces, and everywhere else, were lifted at the end of january.
if drinks at hotels are allowed all the punters will move there.
and bars and restaurants will follow and also demand lifting ban.
the way for hotels is improving their service and lowering prices. Guests will stay longer, and come back.
I still pay at my favourite places same as before pandemic, but only because they are exceptional and reasonable priced
Only in theory. In reality, if there is a two day window for going away (a weekend) people will stay a maximum of two nights, whatever the price. There is a lot of scope for improving service in Thailand generally, though. -

One wonder why foreigners would accept to jump through so many (expensive) hoops in order to go in holiday, especially the Chinese who don't lack places to visit within their own country.
The TAT has to understand that a door, border in this case, is either opened or closed, but it can't be both at the same time...
It's also very revealing that if you go through all the hoops and expense, then the Thai Govt cancel, you won't get your money back! Who is going to waste their money and time like that?

60% of tourism business face closure. Probably very true, but....... a lot, and I mean a lot of new businesses have opened in the last few months.
Many houses near us have suddenly set up kitchens in their gardens and are delivering food via Grab, Panda or whatever. Are they registered? i doubt it.
It seems several houses are now being rented out for parties for HiSo's, for gambling or other "activities" ( no control, free flowing drinks, unlimited number of guests, wild orgies with young "pretties"). Yes, I have seen them.
That is just in the soi where I live. What about all the other places?
Do you have details -location, contacts, etc...asking for a friend.

I may be inclined to be more concerned of the economic impact from the slowdowns to the massive foreign investment in the manufacturing sector in Thailand. 12% is significant indeed though, hopefully industry can flourish and maintain a healthy economy chugging and tourism numbers can begin to return to normal levels.
Covid (and other mitigating factors) drove a big nail in Thai Airway's coffin, other major industries to follow?
While a 12% drop in GDP might not be fatal nationally, what proprtion of the jobs does that 12% support? I was reading a tourist association spokesman who said that Thailand has already lost 4 million tourist related jobs. Surely a lot of such people are reaching the end of the savings they've been relying on, and soon face hardship. Additionally, their spending formerly supported jobs in many other industries (cars, motorbikes, clothes, luxury items [insert any item]. That's all gone.

Bangkok to Accept Walk-in for AstraZeneca Vaccinations From January 31

A bit confusing. The article says that people for first jab can walk in, but then in the criteria, it says that you must have had a previous jab....which is it?
