  1. Hopefully they'll spend a lot of time in Thailand...behind the walls of a prison. Lucky for the Kiwis that their parents are wealthy, it's their best and maybe only chance of seeing NZ again in the near future.
  2. Apparently he's a real hothead, but he deserves his day in court. If he confesses or if he's convicted, jail then deportation would be more than appropriate.
  3. Same. My Thai wife can almost always get a good price. I tell friends that visit to take a tuk-tuk once for the novelty, then avoid them like the plague unless you don't mind paying the inevitable inflated price or being taken somewhere the driver gets a commission. Not to defend the grifter overcharging, but even the "tourist" price is still dirt cheap compared to taxi prices in most people's home countries.
  4. When someone is kidnapped, why conceal her identity? This is not the time to "protect her privacy." You would think at least a picture of her would help in case she was spotted at a gas station, 7-11, etc.. In my home country, when somone is kidnapped, the victime's name and picture is shown everywhere possible in hopes that someone will see her and report it to the police.
  5. One of the first things you do when traveling, get a card from your hotel when you check-in. Especially when you don't speak the language.
  6. I'm not much of a pot smoker, but a couple of puffs before bed sure helps me fall asleep faster and sleep longer.
  7. Cabin crews are instructed not to help lift baggage for passengers, it's a leading cause of injury in the industry. If you can't lift the bag yourself, pay the damn checked baggage fee.
  8. The weaker Baht is at least helping with inflation here. I think I can speak for most people who receive monthly income from overseas, we're not complaing.
  9. Me too. I've been riding a motorbike for over 18 years here, and ALWAYS wear my helmet, even for the two minute ride to 7-11.
  10. In San Francisco, they make the naked guys carry towels to sit on, to avoid skid marks on chairs.
  11. Respectfully disagree. My property has almost tripled in value since I bought it, beats the heck out of throwing away rent money.
  12. In the US, even after they rob you, there's still a decent chance they'll shoot you.
  13. I'm from California where this type of thing is an everyday occurrence, I learned a long time ago that honking or gesturing at other drivers can and will get you killed. Best just to let it go, and not worth dying for.
  14. Not cheap for the good stuff, 800-1200 Baht per gram ain't cheap.
  15. By no means am I saying these women deserved to be scammed, but anyone who gives large amounts of money to someone on the phone without verifying their authenticity is absolutely mind-boggling.
  16. That happens when you're 99% of the population.
  17. Blame the victim for working hard, saving and acquiring nice things. How dare he.
  18. Singapore Airlines was ranked #1, Cathay Pacific was #2. I haven't flown Thai in a while, but was very pleased the times I did, both long haul and short haul.
  19. Same in the gated community I live in, here in Bangkok. It's almost laughable that people who have never smoked weed before are now growing it. My wife who has never smoked weed before, has a nice little crop right next to her roses. She has no plans to smoke it, just wanted to grow some. Next to the Family Mart nearby, there's a beauty salon that has a couple of plants growing right in front of their shop.
  20. I always tell friends who visit, try a tuk-tuk once for the experience and never take one again, because you will be ripped-off.
