Teacher attacks primary students - investigative committee set up
nowhereman replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
You're partially right. I don't have a role in the solution anymore whatever minimalistic it was. I refrained of judging this teacher's conduct because I don't know the person and all the cirdumstances that led to this violent outburst which I don't aprove of. At the same time I'm aware of how the system works and the role of parents in education system. The school's management will hastingly try to solve the situationIt and blame it on the teacher souly. Though, I point it out that this is a socilal problem of upbringing. Why the kids didn't do their duty? Does it have anything to do with parenting? Parents' behaviour is similar to what you can read in many posts here and they sound like a voice of a lynch mob or burning witches at the stake. If you ever have the chance to step into any classroom and try to make a difference you might get a new perspective. -
Teacher attacks primary students - investigative committee set up

Violence doesn't resolve problems but upbringing does. I worked in Thai education system for many a year. Wast majority of kids (any gender or age) have zero to non upbringing or have any work habbits instilled from the very parents that are complaining. Teacher who really wants something to be done, has no support from colleagues nor from the supirior ones. In public schools everything is done the way that student are happy (dumb) and teachers have free time and do some other profitable business. Let me give you an example, where such education leads. Just the other day as I was descending the stairs from my favorite temple which serves me as daily exercise. I met a group of more than 10 young policemen ( all a bit chubby) climbing up and each of them had a broom. I was happy to see them as I was thinking that someone will finnaly sweep the slippery dry leaves. I asked them about theit intention and they confirmed my prediction. The next day I climbed the stairs again and I really wasn't surprised that nothing was done. Bad upbringing and education have its cost. How many of you are not satisfied with police force? The problem begins very early in life and can not be mandet in lifetime. As I don't support violence and I don't know the teacher in question and all the circumstance, I refrain from judgement but give you my inside and example of the problem which is not isolated to Thailand only. -

7-11 shops could be a correlation but certainly not causation. -
Thai health officials worried about growing number of fat kids

Thais in the past cooked mostly with saturated fat such as pork lard, only about 50 to 40 years ago they gradually switched to cheaper polyunsaturated fats such as seed and plant based oils, just like the rest of the world. As their food industry grew they've got trans fats too. Not to mention the increase of sugar and refined grain consumption, again just like elsewhere. They are actually just one step behind. For those who know Thailand for decades the difference is obvious. -

Running 5km daily is more than enough followed by the right diet. Running marathons is nothing but a lot of stress for your organism. -

Calories are not the issue. The issue here is what sugar, trans fats and carbohydrates do to your body. So not all calories are the same. -

Congratulations to Ministry of Health. It took them only 20 years to figure this one out. -

Thai Children Can Swim Project Receives Government Support
nowhereman replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I worked in a high school with Olympic sized swimming pool for a decade and only 1% of students could be classified as swimmers. The main reason for that was teaching the first swimming technique that is too difficult. As the first swimming technique they teach freestlye instead of breaststroke. What could go wrong? If they are serious about this project, building swimming pools will not suffice. Get some qualified swimming teachers from overseas that would make a difference. -
Yesterday I talked to a potential new agent about visa extension requirements and I was told that I have to submit passport, two face photos and a full body picture. The latest raised my eyebrowes and a flag. Does anyone knows anything about this. To me it sounds so suspicious that I am considering not to use this agent.

Should the Thai government ban mobile use for motorcyclists?

I agree that the use of GPS for delivery guys is essential but there is no need to look at the phone while driving. I use Bluetooth build in my helmet and just by listening to GPS instructions I always find my way. If I have to look at the phone I stop in a safe location and take it out of my bag. Any wire or wireless earphones would do the trick as well. -
I received 3th Pfizer a week ago and got an appointment in four month. As I was sitting and waiting for the side effects a nurse approached me and said that they made a mistake and for Pfizer there is no schedule as yet and took away my appointment letter. Don't know what to make out of this but I assure you it smells bad to me. This is the second time this month I was treated differently than Thai people though I shouldn't be.
