  1. I'd not bother with football packages if I lived close to a city with multi-choice bars also Stevie. Much better to watch with a crowd than sterile shouting at your own screen.

yeah, it's a nice choice to have. and a luxury compared to back in the UK where most premier league fans only get to see their team play on TV a handful of times a season and when sky sports decree it. i get to watch every liverpool match here, usually at nice times of the evening, and while wearing shorts and flipflops. spoiled rotten.

  2. fair summary stevie . rodgers keeps on bout the relatively low offers , well could that 'shortfall ' b the'real' cost of his moments of madness? strikes me that those huge deals are as much about advertising ,shirt revenues ect ect,as they are bout football ability . Suarez's actions will 4 sure have commercial consequence s, would you wedge out large 4 him 2 advertise your co? .and we know Liverpools mega in Thailand do you see many Suarez shirts ? just a thought like

i think football fans have short memories mate. plenty wear suarez shirts and if he were at real madrid he'd shift oodles of them. also think that the merchandising and commercial revenues are always secondary to on-pitch success when signing a player, catwalk show pony david beckham excepted of course.

it may be that arsenal thought they could get him on the cheap because of this alleged clause and his bans, yeah. but we have a duty to ourselves to maximise his value if we do ship him out, and that means some degree of parity with cavani and the prices being quoted for bale. as brendan rodgers has correctly pointed out recently.

  3. they've made a bit of a horse's arse of this haven't they?

I don't see any sign of us footy threadites struggling to get their package - benefits of collective gossiping, plus BKK's priceless inside track. For once it seems as though living in a poorer area (with not many middle class Thais and fewer falang) is a positive advantage when it comes to response time.

Anyone else out there unconnected - avoid the CTH central number at all costs for installation. Call your nearest dealer then the next nearest until you get the optimal installation date/travel mileage cost offer: I would consider a financial incentive if I was stuck myself, but I can understand if Stevie interprets that as typical <deleted> capitalist behavioursmile.png

This Pukhet Gazette reporter has also made a horse's arse of it - 599 baht a month? Pah! He/she just continues to parlay the obfuscation about the real cost, which is 962 baht a month (899 plus the VAT that CTH would like you to overlook). Still good value, particularly if you pay 10 months up front and get a year. But that's only if they can get it all to hang together when crunch time comes. I can do without the EPG for the first year, hell, I'll even do without a good English commentary for a couple of months, but the actual games must be there to watch live and replays must be available.

I'm keeping Gold for another couple of months in case of disaster! Fingers and toes crossedthumbsup.gif

i don't have the package at home as i prefer to watch my footy out and about but i have heard that very few chiang mai bars will have the CTH installed ready for the start of the season. guess if you knew the score early doors then you could move early and ensure you had it in case of problems like this - those that have dallied will have to wait. and yes, eff off you <deleted> capitalist. ;)

  4. only one player didn't turn up at steven gerrard's testimonial charity benefit dinner. what a horrible wee <deleted>.

Can you give us a clue who it was Stevie !

it wasn't stewart downing. that should narrow it down a bit.

Perhaps mad mary might have another pearl of wisdom on the subject of the admiral Senor Suarez?

he's really painting himself into a corner here. the fans gave him a great reception on saturday to show him the kind of support he'll miss if he does carry on trying to force this move through. you don't get the kind of adoration at arsenal that you get at liverpool - you also don't get the trophies either, but that's by the by at this point.

so suarez is going to go ahead with this legal challenge now, almost certainly - just as he did at groningen. the 'it's not fair, i just signed the thing and didn't really read it properly and i'm a selfish little <deleted>' clause. so he seems to be spending the meantime going out of his way to turn the fans against him in the hope that when he does launch this poor me poor me court case most will just say 'oh to hell with it, sell him for whatever now'.

the other possibility, which i haven't ruled out at all yet, is that he stays at liverpool against his wishes, serves out his six-match ban at the start of the season and then soon after does something else insane so that we basically have to sack him. ajax fans always maintained that his biting incident there was related to a structured campaign to get out of the club. what a shame that such a brilliant player who could be so adored seems to be hell-bent on making the world hate him.

  6. One of the reports into the Bale saga stated the Real only wanted to pay £20m upfront!!! :-0

Its all become quite laughable this whole saga. We should just say, 85m+Marata with the cash upfront, include the money you also owe us for Modric. D the deal on those terms or <deleted> off and tap up someone else's player. They are funded by the Bank of Madrid <deleted>, thats the only reason they arn't in liquidation along with Coventry City

    probably relevant.

Real Madrid are €590m in debt so how do they get round Uefa finance rules?

    • Manchester City less in line with Financial Fair Play rules

    • Spanish side's spending spree may include Gareth Bale

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/aug/03/real-madrid-uefa-financial-fair-play

At first, and maybe second, glance it would appear that a world record-busting move by Real Madrid for Gareth Bale is not exactly in line with the pledge by the Uefa president, Michel Platini, to put the brakes on the game's overheating finances.

Arsène Wenger, who has long made his distaste for spiralling wages and transfer fees plain, said it was "a joke" that Madrid would spend so much in the same season that FFP was introduced.

But a combination of the series of concessions negotiated by the biggest clubs through the European Club Association to Uefa's Financial Fair Play rules and Real Madrid's huge revenue‑generating potential mean the two things are not quite as contradictory as they might appear.

Much to the chagrin of its critics, who fear it will "lock in" the established order, the FFP break-even rules favour the biggest earning clubs. And of those, Real Madrid have consistently been the biggest for the past eight years.

The latest Deloitte Money League report calculated they had become the first to break the €500m annual revenue barrier, with their total of €512.6m an increase of 11% on last year. The Spanish TV rights model, with Real Madrid and Barcelona keeping the lion's share, in contrast to the more equitable division in England, and a concerted drive to exploit the brand abroad helped.

Since those figures were compiled, Real have signed a new, 30% more lucrative shirt sponsorship deal and started work on a stadium redevelopment scheme. As far as the FFP calculations are concerned, total transfer outlay is less important than you might think. Transfer fees can be amortised over the length of a player's contract, making wages the more important factor and perhaps explaining Real's keenness to move players on as well as bring them in. Gonzalo Higuain has gone to Napoli for £32m and various names have been mooted as potential part-exchange makeweights for Tottenham's Bale.

Real are well known for being keen to pay their transfer fees in instalments – hence why Tottenham are still owed money for Luka Modric and while Real's debt is often quoted as €590m and they remain under investigation by the European Commission over a land deal with the city council, that figure measures their entire liabilities.

Under the accounting measures employed by English clubs, the blogger Swiss Ramble worked out last year the figure would be €146m – less than Arsenal or Manchester United.

Under the FFP rules, clubs are allowed €45m leeway over the first two seasons and can also disregard deals signed before the rules were announced. Even if they fall foul, if they can show a positive "direction of travel" it will act as mitigation.

All of which means that Madrid, with their huge earning power, are a less startling example of football's refusal to bend to Platini's will than Manchester City, Paris St-Germain and Monaco.

  7. it's a pre-season friendly. means nothing. but monaco can still ....off along with PSG.

Yeah our c/d was livermore and fyrers,!!!! totally untested pairing and they were pretty much out of their depth hugo f up 4 2 of the goals, but

if i'm worried bout anything its kaboul dawson and verity not getting match time. And defoe getting injured <deleted> !!!

Apparently we signed fyrers for s leige in jan and that was his second game !!!!! tough baptism against falcao!!!!

you're being paranoid. it's pre-season and villas boas isn't an idiot.

  8. For once....it seems we are all in agreement.

@Stevie....I reckon Sturridge was a steal at the £10m you paid for him....especially at his age.

we'll see mate. he's got all the ability and technique, but then he had that back at city too when he came through. it's his drive and desire i wonder about. if he can be booted up the arse he could be top class.

  9. If Costa comes in, where does this leave Borini? Poor lad he keeps moving house every year. He hasn't really had a chance, but he hasn't shown too much either. And Downing, expensive squad player?

Just shoot Downing now and put us all out of our misery.

i would genuinely do that. i hate the <deleted>. seeing him even near steven gerrard on the bench today was just offensive.

  10. just asking if you see them playing together on the same pitch at the same time?

    Nothing clever.

costa seems to play as a support forward for atleti, either behind falcao or drifting wide. liverpool's set-up is going to be interesting next season since we don't appear to have an out-and-out striker, not a real number 9. even aspas the new lad is a forward who moves around. so i'm hoping for loads of movement, loads of up-the-pitch pressing and midfielders getting into scoring positions. so nominally it would be aspas up top with coutinho, suarez and costa around him. in theory. which on paper looks like loads of fun. biggrin.png

I'm thinking along the same lines Stevie, what about Sturridge?

Also I'm wondering if Chelsea might through their hat in to the ring for Suarez next week.....cash and Lukaku would be nice

Better with or without Suarez this season do ya think?

he's one of the top few players in the world. better with him. assuming he drops the face like a slapped arse nonsense.

sturridge plays against some mate and not against others. possibly teams with a higher defensive line that we need his pace to get in behind. against teams that will sit deep, particularly at anfield, maybe we need the movement and workrate of aspas. all of this is of course dependent on suarez staying. and also costa signing. so it's a bit fluid just yet. :)

all i know about this season so far is that coutinho is going to be a proper star and joe allen's going to become a very highly-rated midfielder. oh, and jose enrique's a <deleted> idiot. jon arne riise with a beard.

  13. by the way, anyone know if the steven gerrard testimonial vs olympiakos is on thai TV today? it's on BT in england and they've had the pre-season matches on out here so far.

The game is on True1. I don't know if that includes the testimonial or not.

    ah nice one, thanks.

  14. I read somewhere that Suarez proposes to take legal action to force a move! Presuming he signed a contract can anyone enlighten me on the grounds he thinks he has for legal action against his employer?

he did it before to force through a move from groningen to ajax. he's a horrible little nurk and i wouldn't be too upset if steven gerrard broke his legs in training.

Stevie G do a leg breaker......I've never heard such slander. biggrin.png

can be lucas, agger, anyone really. i'm not fussy.

  16. sturridge was very good since january for us. most fans are very happy with him. he'll be first-choice against some opposition and rotated against others. don't see him as being quite good enough for a guaranteed first name on the team sheet spot just yet. but he may get there.
