  1. No1 bar, as you keep telling us, it's totally respectable.

Yes, definitely. However you don't really see any Thai women there going out unless they're with a Farang husband and/or have a history of working at the place.

The soi you mention is where the Mercure (ex Novotel) is right? Is that a slightly dodgy area perhaps, there's also a bunch of seedy gay places in that area? I'm now also thinking some places on the river will work, like the grand old Riverside even.

I like Goodview near the Riverside better. Thai and Farang. And #1 is fine as well.

  2. Sawasdee Khrup TV CM Friends,

Interesting to think about ... one step beyond the demographics ... for any one person, the extent to which they are in fact "here" in Chiang Mai, other than the fact their physical body is here, eats, sleeps, pays rent, etc.

While it may be only a jejeune frippery of superflous metaphysicality to even consider the idea that there are, simultaneously present, multiple Chiang Mais, we do think that the lifestyles, and modes of experience, of expats vary so widely that this, operationally, can be quite true.

    . . . . .

So, with humble uncertainty, we dare to ask you if it's possible that there are "multiple Chiang Mai's" inhabited by farangs whose lifestyles are so different, whose degree of adaptation to the Thai aspects of their environment varies so widely, whose goals and experiences and characteristic behaviors vary so widely: that knowing the demographics ... while of interest ... may tell us less rather than more ?

We can truthfully say, of ourselves, that the Chiang Mai we live in today is not the same as the Chiang Mai we lived in fourteen years ago in our first four-year installment of living in-country, partly because we are not the same (and the radical change in us involves much more than just the cosmic singularity that resulted in our transformation from onesome to twosome via syzygy with the soul-mind of a dying Orangutan escaped from the hell of a Bangkok private zoo, in the depths of an under-construction Bangkok subway).

Now that, Khun orang37, which I have edited only so as to keep it as a quotation a tad bit smaller in my post here, when all I wanted really to do was identify it for the purpose of the rest of this sentence, was one mighty fine post !!! Chapeau!

The man is a fine writer. He can think and feel and write and walk and chew gum at the same time. Always a treat.

  3. A man had 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl.

As he sat down, he noticed that the seat next to him was empty.

He asked the man on the other side of the empty seat whether anyone was sitting there.

"No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the first man.

"Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world and not use it?"

The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away.

This will be the first Super bowl we haven't been together since we got married in 1967."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"

The man shook his head. "No, they're all at the funeral."

  4. Having spent some time in Udon Thani I would say some Thai whilst helpful anywhere in thailand is nice but NOT essential up there, huge expat community and quite a large city.

Also has a good airport for easy transfers.

Take a good look at Chiang Mai. It has all you want and more.

  5. I have one 45 watt and one 65 watt. probably power cords and/or plugs too.

I'm sure they will work for you. 1000 baht for both.

Could u write me u number or mail in PM

Was the deal done? I'm looking for the same thing - power cord for an ibook g4.

the deal was done. but the buyers now have an extra. get in touch with them,

  6. post-118939-0-94892900-1296106415_thumb.

Simple to have made. A welding shop can make the steel frame. A carpenter can cut plywood to the shape you want and mount it on the frame. An upholstery shop can put on the padding and cover. Or you could attach it to the frame after it is covered. Then you would get the exact design you want.

wow...sounds like a very complicated operation to me...

3 different shops to form a massage table?

I bet they won't even understand what I want from them...

Yes you are right, they probably would not understand what you want. Sorry I suggested it even though it the way such tables are most likely obtained here since a Thai would know that having one made would be cheaper than buying one ready made. Also probably easier than trying to find one, no?

    Hey again...

I got an offer from a teak wood factory to make me a custom table.

I asked for a picture of one they made in the past and this is what I got...

Could it be any more hilarious?!?!

I think it's beautiful. I also think functional if built to you specs, i.e height. and i am a massage therapist. sorry, left my table in New Mexico.

  7. Have you tried the studio in the air port mall. It is right outside the IT store.

Nope not yet, can u explain how to get there? :)

    I will try.

It is on the third floor just out side the IT store.

We generally go in where the free songtel lets you out. Take the nearest escalator to the third floor. It brings you up on one side of IT go through there to the main aisle. It is in a studio type building in the middle of the aisle.

Hope this helps. It has STUDIO on it.

If it is the airport Mall just grab a songtel or tuk tuk and tell them airport shopping center.

One of these days If I am lucky my computer will crash and I will have to buy the big 27 inch screen. Keeping my fingers crossed.:D

    Good Luck

  8. - You won't be happy with iPhoto - get Aperture. Borrow it for a while if you can't buy it...

iPhoto is very basic, and generally the weakest of the iApps - I still use it because it's convenient but frankly, it's never been a great program and it still isn't.

    - Exporting your bookmarks: If you don't use Firefox yet, install Firefox - it will ask you to import all your IE bookmarks. Then go to "organize bookmarks -> export bookmarks" - Firefox will export them as a simple HTML file. You can then import that in Safari on the Mac.

    - Google for how to move from iTunes on the PC to iTunes on the Mac - should be very simple, I imagine.

    - Google for ACDsee as well... I don't know that program and its capabilities. You can get all the photos for sure, but don't now about favorites and so on.

Apertture was very cheap quite recently on new App site.

  9. Had the same problem, and had the same thoughts about travel agents.

So I called one, and was told that China Air will cease flying into CNX, I think end of February.

You also may want to contact a travel agent to verify this.

Sad news if so, but perhaps someone like Air Asia might view their withdrawl as an opportunity, for them to start another new-route out of CNX ?

Their newest route to Hat-Yai starts next week, their slightly-older route to Phuket is now up to twice-daily, and CNX-Singapore is also crying-out for a new LCC to start flying ! Here's hoping ! :)

    I checked again.

Last flight on Kayak, cnx to tpe and beyond, is March 24, at this point in time.

And china air website will let you book CNX to TPE thru March 24 as of today, but you cannot book beyond TPE from CNX.

  11. there is a play in american football call the quick kick in which any "back" can kick the ball, from behind the line of scrimmage, to surprise the defense and move the ball down the field. It is a "punt", and unless the kicking team "recovers" the ball, the other team most likely receives it, but down the field. the defense expects one play and gets another. it's kind of like the king promising something to the colonists and then reneging, for all you brits.
