I have to assume that the OP author is a "brown, Muslim European" as well as a so-called "progressive" European. Perhaps if Muslims were to relent from hacking people to death in the streets of Europe, then this "rise of the 'far right' and, 'pervasive racism and xenophobia'" might have not come to the fore.
