  1. Never happens to me ... but there again I have that 'look' about me.

It does come in handy though when getting unwanted attention, when all I want is a nice cold beer :o

  2. Khun Jiradee told Police that he thought the female companion with the victim resembled his former girlfriend and he wanted to commit the theft as payback for her breaking up with him. The story was found to be untrue and Khun Jiradee is now behind bars on a charge of theft.

I wonder. If his reason for doing the robbery had been true, would that have been seen as a mitigating circumstance? Probably.

It really is amazing the boneheaded excuses they come up with :o

  3. Libya 115 Says: Mr Vandenbusche is fortunate that the detained thieves did not turn on him with knives and stab him mercilessly to death, as is the norm in the Soi Buakheaw area.

I guess following this logic, there will be more thefts if it becomes easier and easier.

Yes ... I'm sure the crims would love to read these sorts of comments ... There again

the probably cannot read Thai far less English !

  4. My friend just went to the Thai Embassy in Laos for a tourist visa. The immigration official asked him for his thai bank book for evidence of funds. My friend pointed out that Thai banks will not allow a foreigner to open an account without a work permit!!!!

If a tourist cannot open a bank account in Thailand, how can he or she supply Thai immigration with a photocopy of the bank book??

    What's going on??????

There is nothing going on ... You have simply been misinformed by your mate re the requirement for a work permit.

  5. a friend pointed out to me that on his many many visits to immigration and regular visa runs that he has never seen any arabs/indians but there are many that live here.he heard they have some special deal going on that they dont have to do what the rest of us farangs have to do....which if true then i think it should be brought out in the open.maybe hes wrong but i havent seen any at soi 5 jomtien or on any of the visa runs that i have done.any one any ideas or has this topic been discussed before.

My understanding from my Indian tailor, those Middle Easterner and South Indian have their very own visa agent to handle their Thai visa extension, the reason given is that they don’t want to face unkind treatment due to some documentation error or miscommunication with immigration department. That's why you don't seen them hanging around at immigration like farang.

Must be scary being afraid to show your face ... And I guess that a little trip back to the mother country

    is out of the question.

  6. Hi,

My son wants to become a scuba diving instructor here in Thailand.

He has to follow courses that will take him aprox 7-8 months.

Is it possible to get an education visa for him.

At the moment he is here on a tourist visa because he is visiting us.

Can he apply for this type of visa here in Thaiand or does he need to return to Holland to apply for it there?

Does anyone have more information on this?

    Many Thanks!

No visa's of any sort are issued in Thailand ... Only extensions.

  7. I've heard that Kasikorn is the most "farang-friendly" of the major banks.

Is it true that farangs without work permits can do online banking with Kasikorn?

Yes it's true. Just take your passport and an email address, you will have an account with a debit card within 10 mins, and an online username. Your password will be emailed to you within 24 hours (which you obviously have to change).

As a banker in my previous life in the UK I was geniunely amazed with their efficiency and service.

And SCB's online banking service is even more user friendly. Their "one time password" system via sms

makes adding new accounts or new recipients a breeze.

  8. I don't know about the Bangkok - Pattaya but Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok had a visa extension desk to handle such events. Is he in Thailand on a visa or a 30 day visa exempt stamp? That may make a difference.

Try asking at the hospital, they must have experience of this kind of thing.

Worst case scenario is he does a border run to Aranyaprathet / Poipet and gets another 30 day visa exempt stamp.

BP Hospital also has an immigration desk.

  9. i have received 30 days on arival 3 times in the last 3 months. I must leave the Kingdom by the 27 of this month. My plan is to go to Hong Kong and apply for a tourist visa and come back for 3 more weeks.

Is this do-able? Can I get a tourist visa right away, or do I have to wait 6 months from my first entry?

    Thanks

    Sure you can.

    Naka.
