  1. So, when I return to Thailand, will they take my 90 day receit? Then, if they take the receit, do I just report by mail as usual, minus the receit? If they dont take the receit, and I send it in 90 days later, that will be long after the due date on the receit.

    Good question, dont know.

Anyway, when you fill in the 90 day reporting form it asks when you last entered Thailand.

  2. The next few years will be interesting if prices continue to go up... How much is a pint or bottle in the UK nowdays?

To my mind it's the profit margin not the production cost that makes the difference. Going back a few years admittedly I used to by a 4 bottle pack of Bud (I know it's not really beer but I liked it!) for stg4.00 i.e. stg1 per bottle at the supermarket. In a bar the price was always between stg2 & stg2.50, quite a hike but nothing compared to buying a bottle of Chang here on Walking Street. Supermarket 19 Baht Crappy outdoor bar with view of street 85 Baht.

As I said it ain't what it costs it's what they charge for it!

But lots of bars in Pattaya with Bt 40 or less Chang, Tiger, Singha.

  3. Hi im from bkk, just move n work in pattaya for 4 months recently

anyway i would like to know about the 'Irish Pub' at the place villa market (south pattaya)

do anyone know about this pub? which is good?

or any suggesting? i like Hardrock Cafe n please advice me the pub like that. thank you.

If you are referring to Shenanigan's Pub in The Avenue shopping complex, it has decent food (not the best) in a very nice atmosphere. Their daily specials are a good deal and the Saturday and Sunday carvery is quite good.

However, it looks nothing like an Irish pub :o

  4. Dieter,

You are in luck, since we on the forum are so lucky as to have a resident intellectual, the one and only Mr. Naam (formerly Doctor Naam). Mr. Naam can discuss any topic with a high degree of professionalism, insight and flair, anything from energy conservation to ..... well anything. Mr. Naam is however a very soft spoken and humble person, who will need some time to warm to you, but once going, he is unbeatable. I wish you all the best in your deep conversations with the good Herr Doctor!

it should be added that Mr. Naam is not very interested to meet people of his own nationality in Thailand and discuss

    quote: "social science and/or philosophy"

if he has the urge to discuss these topics on a high level Mr. Naam prefers to discuss them with his dog whilst sharing with him bavarian weisswurst and sweet mustard :o

    :D

  6. the guy probably just needs a place to stay and someone who can get him a job teaching english (Stickman are you there?). if we can start a collection pool, put me down for 100 baht. for all we know, he probably has a book of poems or songs in his back pocket. who knows what magical things he has seen during his journey.

He'll need at least one fresh set of clothes, a haircut, a shave and no doubt a real good shower if he wants to get a teaching job... When you are down on our luck, teaching is the easiest option.

An education would come in handy too :o

  7. But of course that is one way of looking at the police - one's view may be different if it is the the police who are looking at you.

As a taxpayer in this county i am allowed to have a opinion of the police force and how theyd be better employed, an opinion i have gained through my dealings with them, i also wish theyd stop looking for no reason.

Regards to your insinuation i have no criminal record.

  8. Straight communication is next to impossible here, because of little or no English skills or their incliniation to tell you what they think you want to hear or to tell you something that will not diminish their stature in a conversation, ie the so-called face-saving.

I hear what you're saying but have you considered that if you live in Thailand you are actually in a foreign country (if you happen to come from somewhere else). How pompous are some of us to think that communication is difficult because they don't speak English. I actually appreciate the fact that many Thais at least attempt to speak English. I'm sure the majority of Thais communicate quite well with each other and with the foreigners who went to the trouble to learn the Thai language.

In that case ... Why do they "Re-enact" crimes :o

  9. A new 90 day count will restart on your new entry date. Address report will be due 90 days after arrival.

Is there any need to retain the old, or any, 90 report receipts in your passport or can you tear it/them out and discard them?

    rgds

Since they are no longer valid there is no point in retaining them. Due to doing many trips I only

do a 90 day about once a year and have never been questioned re missing 90 day slips.

  10. Security of Tourists assured for Songkran

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism and Sports Ministry and private bodies are preparing security measures and emergency plans for tourists' peace of mind during the Songkran period.

The ministry is working with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Tourist Police, television and radio operators, hospitals, the Land Transport Department and private volunteers to initiate security measures during the annual festival, scheduled for April 13-15.

Minister Weerasak Kowsurat said the group had set up tourist assistance centres in Bangkok and all major provinces to deal with emergencies and calls for assistance. The centres will operate around the clock.

Yesterday the agencies started delivering travel guidebooks and tourist information to travellers at major transport access areas, including airports and bus terminals.

"This year, we will be providing 50,000 tourism information kits to visitors," said Weerasak.

He said 75 tourist attractions nationwide had been recommended for local people to visit, while 13 provinces are highlighted as good places to travel to.

The TAT will spend Bt40 million on supporting events across the country and predicts that local people will spend Bt4.1 billion during this year's festival.

Asked if more Thai people are planning to go overseas, Weerasak said the trend was not a concern as it could be good for tourism generally as people tended to exchange ideas and learn about other cultures.

Bang Saen and Pattaya will have Songkran festivals later than the rest of the country.

The Bang Saen festival is set for April 16-17 at Bang Saen beach in Chon Buri province. A competition to determine the most artistic sand pagoda will take centre stage with more than 100 miniature pagodas sculptured from sand.

The Pattaya festival is set for April 17-20.

I understood the last "Wet" day in Pattaya would be on the 19th, has this changed ?

  11. Nice hospital.

Do they dump the injured that can't pay in some dark soi?

But I do understand, why the ashier was so pushy.

. It's his job to collect from these people. Thais and Farangs often skip without paying.

It's amazing how many farangs do not carry health insurance for emergencies.

Ok ... You have insurance ... You are out for the count ... The "rescue guy's" have emptied your pockets ... What now ?

  12. I tried those Grapenuts ... A bit like Ovaltine laced cat litter :o

    Naka.

I wouldn't know. I have not tasted Ovaltine or cat litter.

Fair enough to say that not everyone, actually most people do not like Grape Nuts, but those that do, really do, and as the brand has been around for over 100 years, that hasn't changed.

Fair enough ... But next time you go shopping buy a can of Ovaltine, I'm sure you will love it !
