  1. Well it certainly seems members here have slightly different opinions depending on which illegal activities are discussed.

Discussing how to received satellite TV at "reduced" rates is no no and accepted so by all. Never seen any objections to this. Same goes with downloading some music or movies off the net. Clearly not something to discuss in the forums.

Overstaying ones visa is considered "stupid" and "ignorant" by most. And most seem to be happy seeing people getting fined for their ignorance.

Discussing how to illegally migrate to Thailand and work without work permit again seem to be ok for most, actually questioning this seems to result in being called snobby f#@*wit by quite a few.

Could see the same in the recent thread where OP was asking if it is illegal to make a living in Thailand exporting good for sale with tourist visa.

Did you choose to ignore the point I was making deliberately?

  2. I also see too many threads of OP's asking how to circumvent Thai laws (or even announcing they will do) or even more asking what the chances of getting caught are... those threads should be closed immediately.

Yes, I agree with Swissie that such actions can lead to tougher VISA rules which will affect all those going throught the legal process.

However, I do not agree with Swissie that the Op should not be coming and learn Thai even on the smallest possible budget... maybe Swissie does not remember, but I do remember my backpacking times through Europe with the smallest possible budget, sleeping in farms, helping farmers for some food etc... would not want to miss that time in my life, even though would not want to repeat it in my age...

You know what, I'm jealous of you doing that.

I took off from Scotland in April 89 with the intention of doing the same thing. I arrived in Wiesbaden, Germany and got recommended into a sales job. I had pictured myself working as a security guard or picking fruit, doing something like you did.

Anyway I ended up in a very enjoyable high pressure sales job, cracking lifestyle and I earned £250,000 in 4 years. I saw the Berlin Wall come down, I worked in US army and Air force bases, and I learned some of the language. By the time I left I could speak fluent Redneck.

An amazing experience, all because I took a chance. I will say though I'm still jealous of you though, I would have loved a couple of summers in the fields and farms.

Leave the boy alone......you never know what it will lead to.

I spent a year in Kavos working as a PR dragging the punters into bars.

Real 18-30's type stuff. Part payment in ouzo. Out on the piss every night. Beach parties and taking advantage of the easy chavettes on holiday.

I was very poor, we all were, but it was quite an experience.

  3. Me thinks Steve Jobs did not hang around scheming to be able to be illegal immigrant in India. I reckon he had other plans.

Nothing wrong on young guys taking a risk and having some fun. But when your plan is to work illegally dodging taxes it's pretty sad. Why not build your business back home and come over when you can do it legit?

Yes, he should get the right visas etc.

But uneducated? Basic skills? No chance of success? Overstayer? Objections to wanting cheap objection?

    Nothing but snobbery

And where exactly I said that ?

I didn't say you did. The OP did.

  5. I don't have a WP

I did have, but things went Pete Tong for me and I had to 're-invent' myself. With a wife and child returning home was not an option. The WP will come later, it just isn't feasible for me yet. My options are to carry on as I am in the knowledge the WP will come in time as things develop or return home after 10+yrs, with no promises of landing a job, and leave my wife and daughter to fend for themselves.

While I know I will have to accept what the authorities say, should they want a word with me, anybody else can shove their judgement where the sun don't shine.

  6. Why can't she fall in love? Women are into wallets, not looks. Sex doesn't interest them.

    How we laughed at this...cheesy.gif

    sorry.gif

Laugh about what? It's how all relationships work. You won't find a married homeless guy.

Sobering thought that. Mind you there'd be a bit more to it than that I think...

It's how it's worked out for him smokie. Therefore it must be the same for everybody else.

  7. I once met a young Thai lad at immigration getting a visa extension. Yes, I said that right, a Thai lad getting his Thai visa extended.

He had dual nationality, and his British passport meant that he had to jump through the same hoops that we all do. He had a Thai Birth certificate and everything but still had to get visas and WP's and stuff. I didn't ask him about buying houses etc.

I may or may not have recalled the above perfectly but that's the general gist of it. I know the OP troll is American so things could be different, but I doubt they will be that different.

  8. I'm becoming increasingly confused by some of the replies to my post.

You say I can't own a house or land, but no indication why this is not possible.

You've been clearly told it is not possible because of Thai law

  9. Offer taxi's with seat belts. They can have a higher fare. They will be recognized in some way, symbol/color etc.

    They don't have them already?

Put a garabge can on every soi corner.

    That'll last long

Put up electronic meters similar to Singapore that charge automobiles for driving in Bangkok, this will discourage traffic.

What about all the poor people reliant on it?

Do not allow Children to be used for solitication of pedestrians. Get rid of the adult beggars while we are at it. The professional/mafia/serial offenders are easily identifiable.

Get rid of beggars? And do what with them exactly?

  10. Lucky guy.

I bet she really loves you as well.

Can anybody else smell troll shit?

Aproporo of which, if trolls shit in the woods, why don't the bears eat them ? coffee1.gif

I think it's more a case of the trolls eating the bears.

  11. I think the OP should start his own forums where he can try to enforce whatever harebrained rules he likes.

Yes, some questions get asked repeatedly. It may even be more frustrating for long time members to have to read them (at gunpoint I assume, since simply not opening the thread doesn't seem to be an option for some).

What may better serve the newbies is a FAQ pinned at the top of each set of forums. And the information needs to be updated so that it's current. Pinning six year old threads with over a thousand replies is ridiculous.

  12. Owing to multiple cock ups in the planning department, the end of the world has had to be postponed indefinitely.

This means I will need a HUGE pile of books to read and MANY crates of beer to drink while I wait.

The could at least reschedule so we have a new date to go by. Very inconsiderate of them if you ask me.

  13. farang mean for me f... white trash!

and you do u like to be called a farang or falang?

Kiee Nok would be a closer translation to White Trash (Thinking about it, the contextual meaning is almost exactly the same)

but yeah, I don't mind if people who don't know me call me farang. It's fair enough, they don't know me and my ethnicity is a pretty distinguishing visual feature which will specifically get my attention (As opposed to just saying "Khun Khun!!" which might have half the neighbourhood thinking someone is talking to them). Even if they say said "Kon Yai" or "Kon Uuan" it wouldn't be as specific to me since there's more big guys in Thailand, than what there are farang, and calling me big/fat would be (to me at least) more offensive than farang (Although after living here for a big, I've got a reasonably thick skin to it lol).

With anyone who knows me, they usually call me Ajarn, or by my name

Farang = Baa see daa = guava

    kee = $hit

    nok = bird

To me and from thai family and friends this is not a nice thing. It is used often, but the vast majority of the time is out of farang ear shot.

If some one (outside yr family and very close friends) calls you a farang kee nok trust me this is an insult.

I would have to strongly disagree with you on this. What did the folks in the USA call black people, mexicans, asians and on and on same with the folks in Europe. Now us Farangs know what it feels like. Thai need to trip over themselves to show me/us Farangs respect. Give me break will ya?

Are you trying to say that because Americans/Europeans have been racist in the past, it is now OK for people to be racist toward them?
