  1. Now how in the world did they decide that? What kind of inspection of a failed bungee strap shows that it failed because of "wear that was not to be ascertained with the naked eye"? And if they were actually correct, then the proper course of action would be to take measures to insure that bungee straps are replaced every so often, whether or not they showed signs of visible damage.
  2. at least you spelled Kansas right.
  3. I speak Thai, and have been in Thailand for fifteen years, I don't go to pubs, never been to one in fact, I have no idea whether or not bottled water is free or not in pubs. What's the whole story, how was the water presented to the guy? Did he ask for it? or did someone bring it to him without him asking for it? To say the guy knew better without knowing the whole story isn't any more fair than him getting slapped and handcuffed.
  4. sounds more likely that someone had a frequency jammer, not that all of those vehicles security or entry systems were all "hacked" at once.
  5. I have done that trip several times, there is no easy way that I have found, and Thai friends and relatives have told me the same. Three weeks ago I was southbound and got stuck in a traffic jam exiting off of 9 for two hours, we were travelling with another party and on our return we split off and they used 9 to try to go around Bangkok to the West, while we used 9 to go around Bangkok to the East. Our direction had a few slow traffic areas but was not stop and go, they got stuck in a traffic jam for nearly three hours. I believe the area we got stuck southbound was when exiting off of 9 to 35. The traffic was backed up for many, many kilometers before the exit and then are many toll booths side to side coming onto 35 and because of construction all of the traffic passing through the toll booths has to funnel down to about three unmarked lanes. It was horrible.
  6. While people in other countries are posting videos of drivers blocking traffic while trying to cut across three lanes of a highway at once because they need to make their turn and were in the wrong lane because the correct lane was too slow or because the next proper u-turn was too far away.
  7. I saw baseball bats for sale at a local market and asked the seller, "people play baseball here?". His answer was, "those aren't for hitting balls, they are for hitting people".
  8. The problem is that those foreign workers who are most likely to be exempted by a work permit or under a "MOU" package most likely have made up the largest part of the 400 million Baht in unpaid medical bills in public hospitals that the government says it is responsible for. What would be interesting to see is a breakdown sheet of unpaid medical bills per nationality of tourists. Also do the public hospitals break down the unpaid bills by foreigners into divisions and classify them under the categories "tourists" or "foreign workers"?
  9. I ordered a pack of four oil filters and received two, I was upset but you definitely fared worse!
  10. You haven't heard of the SoiDog Foundation evidently, do a search on them and include "animal cruelty laws Thailand" and see what you come up with.
  11. The wife has severe asthma, so we run two purifiers, one Altec Pro 1 and one Altec AL3. They are both automatic and sample air quality and adjust function accordingly. Two things I am aware of: If you set the units side by side and turn them on the automatic function settings, the AL3 will come up with consistently poorer air quality levels and turn itself on higher function modes than the Pro 1, in fact the Pro 1 hardy ever turns itself up to a higher function level. We took a video of the two machines working side by side and then sent the Pro 1 back to the factory on their recommendations after talking to them on the phone. At first they said it was defective and they would send us a replacement, then they sent us our old unit back and when we called them they said they could find nothing wrong with it. The other thing is that we have been trying to buy a new filter for the smaller AL3 unit for nearly one year, I ordered it on Lazada six times only to have the seller cancel the order because they do not have it. Currently we have been waiting for a call back from Altec for nearly three weeks. I am not degrading the company, just stating facts.
  12. evidently you missed the resurrection part?
  13. I think describing a grub or caterpillar of some type, not an insect (yet). The one that comes to mind is called a "mah-noi" by the locals here in Isan. (translates to "puppy"). You can find them eating your favorite plants and shrubs, they never eat stuff you don't like.
  14. I believe you are correct, the wife's relatives refer to muzzle loaders as "Puen Gap" (Cap Guns)
  15. Why bring this old news back up? These articles are back in the news almost every year...yet nothing changes, there's no enforcement.
  16. actually it's the fault of the bedbugs which made the mattress unbearable to sleep on???? Those things are dumped everywhere up here in Isaan too, killing off the bedbugs would solve a large percentage of mattress dumping in Thailand.
