Question... I'm not a night person, is it safe before noon to venture out to get groceries... or should I truly get weeks worth Tuesday...with 55,000 baht hearing aids water in the ear is not my friend..

The water throwing may even start the official day before so I would suggest try to avoid bar areas if you want to stay dry at any time of day. Or you will get drenched

  2. A great read good sense of humour there Rooster. As for Songkran I have experienced it in Pattaya twice, never ever again goes on far too long. Most of the drunken farangs pitching ice cold water about, if asked what is Songkran they would have no idea. Better off celebrating Songkran in quiter towns like Hua Hin it goes for 1 or 2 days. A few of my expat mates in Pattaya get out at this time of year either head back to Uk or Aus

Take 5 sportsbar in Khao Takiab, Andreas, Lets sea beach restaurant had me for breakfest, lunch and dinner and it is a good choice, but not the cheapest if thats what you looking for. Friendly restaurant in 94, and also Restaurant 94, but that type of restaurants you do find all over Hua Hin, but, Friendly is a bit more healthy considering using sugar and salt, always fresh food, and if you ask in Restaurant 94, they cook with less sugar and salt as well, and still make it taste good.

Alot of good shopping to do in Hua Hin, night marked, and food markeds, but if you come for party, this is one of the more boring places, unless you are happy to drink, drink and drink and get more drinks. The nightlife is just boring and no big clubs or fancy set up for a good night out. But they have hips of beerbars.

In may there will be a Jazz festival.

Boring nightlife??? Plenty of action about Bintabaht or soi 80

    * 1 - Knowing Auss is suppose to be a 1st class world, it gave up on human interface shutting down branches & making you use computers or hang on to a phone for god now's how long

    * 2 - I take it the travel history is to prove residency - What would they think if you only came to Thailand ? App dates ! I would have to many to list

    * 3 - They will no doubt be checking your bank files since it will be the only way they may find your overseas account

    * 4 - ID, Auss has a 100 point system which will require certain documents to make that up

I posted earlier on here.when I was applying they kept asking why I had an account with Bangkok bank, I said when I go for a holiday I will use the bit of money in there. They asked how much was in the account I said I thought you would know that? 4 months later they call me and say after careful consideration we have decided to pay you. But with a 2 year ban.def pays not to rattle their cage

  5. Great reading Gregster. Well done some very good advice there. I lived in Los for 6 years returned to Aus October 26, 2016. I am now 67.applied for oap when I returned waited 4 months while they considered whether to grant me the oap. They agreed in feb 2017 paid me back money but asked me many times did I intend going overseas. They told me I could not travel os for 2 years. So no problem there. Paid Centrelink a visit recently asking when can I go for a months holiday, I asked did my 2 years start from my arrival date back to Australia? Lady did not know so she asked another staff member who confirmed yes I can travel after oct 26 this year. Not as some people advised me that my time to travel would start from the day they granted my oap.so wheels up late October

You and your friends must be Nobel prices. Just wait for an expensive accident and understand that insurance won't cover you if you are living here and drive with a BS international license.

Well seeing how you know all. Hate to say it but you are wrong yet again. Mate from the uk lived in los for approximately 10 years uses international licence, has had 2 accidents one his fault insurance sorted the lot??

Errr- so the fact he is actually breaking the law himself by not having a Thai driving licence given the time he has been here sits well with you does it?

I have a Thai driving licence, have no wife and speak no Thai. I have never had a problem at checkpoints.

I am not breaking the law by driving with an international licence? It is a 5 year licence accepted by the UN. I did my homework by enquiringly at the police station all ok. Many of my expat friends drive on this type of licence and we have never had a problem. Yes it sets well with me

    So whats your point ??

You say you have never paid one baht.  Yet, you admit to paying when you did something wrong?

According to most everyone, you are still contributing to corruption.  You just pick and choose when...

Where did I say I paid?? Take your beer goggles off or head to spec savers.i said if I was stopped and did something wrong like speeding etc I would gladly pay. Who is everyone?? Pick and choose when???

  9. I have been stopped a few times I found if you had your Thai lady with you. They would just ask for your licence, check the insurance sticker.then all good.but on my way to golf at palm hills one day cop asks where you come from I say back there he say where you go I say up here play golf. He asked licence I show my 5 year international licence, then it was like a tennis match. He asks you have Thai licence I say no international this went on for a few minutes I said this licence I can drive many country. He still asked for Thai licence.he tried to grab my wallet from my hand, I pulled it away. He said you pay money, I said no. He insisted, I said wait I call my friend I played in a pool comp and we had a Thai cop in our team I showed him the cops card he looked and said ok go??i never in 6 years paid them one baht unless I was speeding or in the wrong
