Of course I do not blame the victim, but seriously, why do teenage tourists think getting drunk in a 3rd world country and wandering around like it's Disney World. Most Thai people have little and nothing to lose, they are not governed by the same controls found in the Nanny states. Tourist need to relaize that coming here and getting drunk and stoned and taking chances is not a good idea. I hope the catch the rapist and throw away the key, but of course, they will likely get 3 yrs, and then only if they are over 18.
So you are blaming the victim then.
Not blaming, but people needs to think how they act.
For example, if you are an 18 year old female, who gets drunk and wasted and then strips down bare naked in the middle of know where in a 3rd world country, is it her fault that she got raped? No. Can we blame her for it, No. But can we say that it was pretty stupid of her to act like that? YES!

Online is possible through Invadeit.com
Thank you, any personal experience buying from them? Shipping time?

^^ I second invade. Honest, great service and they never sell copies of software.
Do you really mean this? Or is sarcasm involved? Did you order from them?

Where can I buy genuine Wndows 7 software?
Panthip?

I am sending a replacement product for my customer, no need for details, but we agreed upon him paying a small fee (as it actually mainly was his fault that the product broke), plus shipping.
Should I send him a new invoice? I guess I would need some kind of document for the accountant to register the incoming money?
Yes, no?

Is openly admitting this on a publically accesible internet forum a wise thng to do - there are a lot of jealous farangs around who would happily dob you in. If I was you I would ask the mods to delete it and move on.
One of the inspector ladies who deals with the non-b extensions (very friendly and helpful lady) at Samui immigration once referenced ThaiVisa forum in a conversation I had with her. Don't know if she is a regular reader, but they certainly are aware of it. Especially since the so called 'birdman' at Samui immi is a reoccurring subject in the Samui forum. I never had the pleasure to deal with him (yet).
Haha, a Thai national visits Thaivisa? Wow, she must not be so friendly in the future, if she reads this forum on a regular basis, half of the posts here are downright Thai-bashing posts.

Hmm so a farang caught with a 1 year overstay gets the same sentence as a Thai doctor who cuts his wife up and flushes her down the toilet: 10 years.
Yep sounds about right. Amazing Thailand.
You help us reminding everyone that we in fact are whitey, not Thais, so we are dehumanized, therefore much easier to discriminate against.
-
OMG!!!!!!!!
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!
Look, whitey can cook thai food. Look at it, I mean, him...
-
Some people here seem to desperately want the word to be offensive. Do you crave the experience of being discriminated against for some reason?
It's just a descriptive word. No more than that.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
It is in fact, JUST THAT.
Using the word "farang" all the time, when they refer to us, MAKES IT ALOT EASIER to discriminate against us. It is a way to de humanizing us.
The term in itself is not meant to harm, BUT IT DOES, for the reason I just explained.

It is not meant to be offensive, but it does more harm than it solves problems. One of the biggest problem is that both Thais and we ourselves, use it in an objectifying way, that is, we first and foremost are "farangs", and only secondly, humans, individuals.
But it is difficult for Thais to understand that we do not enjoy being an "object", the dancing monkey, as many of us foreigners even refers to ourselves as "farang" all the time.
In fact, many foreigners goes to great length to enhance this notion of us as the "other", "the object", "the alien", as they enjoy this position. What most of us fails to see though, is that it also makes it easier for Thais to be nasty to us, lie to us, rip us off, treat us bad, and even kill us, as we are not really human, we are just "farang", the alien.
So me personally, does not at all enjoy being the dancing monkey. I strongly dislike the term, as I understand, it does do more harm than it helps in the end.
-
It is not easy, but in contrary to many belifs here on Thaivisa, it is better to try to become more human to them, than to be more alien. The more connected they become to you, the more respect they will have for you. So the more you point out that you are a white person, a "farang", that is, the alien, the less they are going to connect with you, and the less they are going to care about you.
So even though it is not a quick fix, try to not view yourself as the object, the "farang", but rather think of your self as a human with a name, and a personality, it will certainly help in the long run.
You say you have problems with them not listening to your instructions, it happens to Thai managers as well, but even more so because you are a "whitey", just a "farang", and they all know, you are all the same. Sorry to say, they do not have enough respect for you, to really care.
You should try to learn the language, and befriend them, more like a human, than as a strange alien farang/whitey. That way it will be easier to connect with them, and they will have greater respect for you.

n210mp: could it be construed that I am actually guilty of teaching the general Thai population that it is OK to disrespect a Farang in these ways and many more that I could have included.
Yes you are indirectly supporting this behavior.
The least you can do, is stop buying into the Thai notion of you as being "the other", "the whitey", by referring to yourself as such. It will most likely not decrease the risk of you being treated differently and discriminated, but rather the opposite.
Do yourself, and the rest of us "whiteys" a favor, and at least don´t refer to yourself as "farang"
In all the time I have lived and been visiting Thailand nearly 40 years now I think that the times that I have been disabused by someone calling me Farang in an insulting or negative manner has been very few,
IMO I do not take exception to being called a farang because that is what I am in their eyes and in an absence of them knowing me personally and my name, then I suppose that I must be identified in some manner and this is their way, not at all disrespectful. (In their culture of course).
You are missing the point, it is not meant to be offensive. But it is indeed negative in many ways. Read my post above.

Since I am treated substantially better than Thai people it would be stupid if I did not tell people I'm a Farang.
You want to be treated with genuine respect, or be treated like a dancing monkey?
Sure, it is fun for a short while to get special treatment, but with it, also comes the not so obvious downsides, not being taken seriously, being discriminated like the OP, more likely to get robbed, cheated on, scammed, or even killed.
No matter how you see it, in the end it is better to get genuine respect and as human being, than a dancing monkey.

What do you think of cheating farang husbands ?
Yermanee
Even though we are brainwashed to believe male foreigners are taking advantage of the poor innocent Thai girl, I think way more Thai girls scam foreign guys on love AND money, than, foreign guys scam Thai girls...
-
So you are in love with a Thai girl that you have only spent two weeks with and she jumped into bed with you straight away? Warnings lights are flashing everywhere.
A Thai girl, jumping in bed so easily (normally, Thai girls do NOT do this), and dating foreigners on a dating site, yeah, it seems, OP should be VERY cautious.

Do you think all white people should say hello to all other white people?
Not even all Greeks feel the need to say hello to all other Greeks. Even if they happen to be white...

Thanks for the responses guys.
Of course I could just say to the Mrs that I'm not going, plain and simple. However, whilst I really don't want to go, I'm trying to think of it from her point of view. Let's say the roles were reversed and she was in the UK at Christmas time, for example. I don't think I'd feel too great if she refused to visit my family during the Christmas period.
This...

Very risky, I would not do it...

Decade ago i lent money to a woman in Patong Beach. 5k. 3 months later after her being in Koh Samui, she came back to Patong Beach. I stayed in touch with her occasionally that time before. When back in Patong i reminded her about 5 k. Wait couple of days she replied. Told this to some friends and had a bet with them about her paying me back. They laughed....no way she is going to pay you back. 3 days later the girl called me and paid me back. Got the money and won the bet.
I have lent money to friends, workmates, girlfriends and even family back in Scotland, and only one person, the lead guitarist in my band ever paid me back, so it is not just a Thai thing.
Its a lead guitarist thing!!

This is interesting
Can I walk into my local bank in my home country and tell them to send my cash thai bank notes without converting it to my local currency, and transfer it to a Thai bank account?
