  1. Are SE Asians really so childish that they can't see that this has everything with Hun Sen and Thaksin being old cronies and nothing to do with Abhisit? So because of some immature, little-boy attitude from Hun Sen spurred on by an equally immature Thaksin, he's going to make an already very impoverished country suffer more by cutting off a source of aid. The next thing I expect to hear is that Hun Sen and Thaksin are going to hold their breath until Abhisit goes away. No wonder Thailand and Cambodia are slipping into becoming 4th-world nations. HOPELESS!!!!

  2. looks like it's a usuful tool for travelling/staying not only to thailand, but anywhere in the world.

but the timing of this campaign says, that something unpredictable migh be happening in thailand shortly

all part of the service :)

Please tell me that the picture you've used is a mock-up and not a real Playmobile toy set. If is really is something that is sold to children, we are seeing some very blatant indoctrination. "OK kiddies, let's all accept a police state with no more freedom or privacy."

  3. Unbelievable! Stop your whining! You're going on because there are few extra pages missing (that 99% of the population would never use anyway)?

At least you get 5 years for you money. In other countries, the citizens often pay as much or more for only a 5-year passport.

I've never made a comment before about Brits being a whining bunch of chronic complainers, but I've read many of them. NOW I see why.

  4. I'd say she's put you in a no-win situation.

If you keep this girl in your life, she would never respect you as she will interpret that you're a gutless coward for not turfing her out. Believe me, she knows that she should be on the street right now, and had she done that to a Thai boyfriend, she'd be on the street with a couple of black eyes. Besides, do you think that could ever really trust this woman?

There are thousands and thousands of Thai women who are quite willing to play you for a fool, so you should have no regrets as she takes that teary-eyed walk down the street.

  5. "Problems can happen when we ask foreign countries to extradite him. We name him in our request as Thaksin Shinawatra but when those countries check his presence, they would not find him because he used different name," Panich said.

    Problems?

How's about you tell the foreign countries what that different name is.... Takki Shinegra?

    Sorted.

Ya, the solution seems just too obvious and logical, doesn't it?

It's certainly not unusual for criminals to have alias names. That why they'll request Thaksin Shinawatra AKA Takki Shtihead (or whatever it is).

  6. As if they aren't bad enough on the beaches and in the water, they also create traffic jams when they get hauled down streets like Sainamyen in those ridiculous trains, with the operators showing the same ignorance and lack of manners as usual.

If I were given a magic wand that could make things disappear, and only one chance to use it, the jetski problem would be over.

I think you've got a good idea for a thread by asking the question, "If you had a magic wand here in Thailand but could use it only once, what would you create, change, get rid of, etc?"

  7. Sure, the ride was free, but the 40.000 baht charge for fictitious repairs still applies.

This alleged insurance assurance won't last long at all. You'll see that for those who were forced to buy it to continue operating (ie. ripping off tourists) it will be a one-time purchase and that before long the same old stories will pop up.

I have no sympathy for these scam operators and the police who support them. I curse these jet-ski scum and hope to god that their stinky noise making machines are off the beach forever.

Shame on anybody who gives these nasty thugs any business.

  8. In Thailand they would prefer you to teach instead of observe the teacher and many schools will be happy to throw you before the lions without any experience.

I'm not sure I understand you clearly. I thought it was a criminal offense? is it an offense that's not taking seriously? Are you saying its easy to show up well dressed, w/ degree, cv in hand and be able to volunteer teach a couple weeks at some of the schools on the tourist visa?

The reality is that many school administrators, especially in rural areas are willing to disregard the laws and hire teachers who don't possess the proper paper work, credentials, (ie. degree) or even have experience if they can get these people cheaply enough. I don't know what grief the schools experience if an illegal teacher is caught, but the foreigner can face quite harsh punishment. (Typically foreigners face a much more serious situation when caught doing something illegal than a Thai would for the same offense.)

Also, it would probably seem a very strange request to ask a school if you could simply observe a class.

I think Thailand should generally allow volunteers to help more easily here, but they choose to make it nearly impossible to do it legally for a short term situation like yours. In the case of schools and the reputation Thailand has for attracting people of questionable intentions with children, perhaps being very cautious in this area is wise.

It seems like you're interested in teaching abroad, so maybe you should enroll in a TEFL course of some sort.

  9. I think it would be prudent for your landlord to let the head office know about this. If this manager is in such dire straights that he cares nothing about losing face by asking a farang for a loan of 10,000,000 baht, his situation is obviously extremely desperate -- perhaps to the point of doing something dishonest that could severely affect unsuspecting customers. I would also agree with those who advise closing the account(s) there. Like I said, if the manager would go this extreme and lose so much face, I wouldn't feel at all secure about having money anywhere near this guy.

  10. And why should somebody who doesn't feel happy in married life and uses his legal right to divorce be called a w_nker?

Read the story; as soon he arrived in Europe he changed his phone number, contacted her through an acquaintance of his and then came to Thailand to get her to sign some papers.

Apparently he didn't take much time to talk to his wife and explain why he wanted to divorce. Many people act the same way when they like to own a dog because it's "fashion" and when they become boring just left them on a road or in an animal shelter. These I call wank... :)

I bet a lot of the Thai ladies who marry farang for money, don't take much time to talk to their husbands and explain why her "brother" is now kissing her with a great deal of passion when she wants a divorce. In other words, heart aches and deception go both ways.

I expect the woman is possibly confused, but as ONLY she and her European husband would truly know what has gone on between them, I side with those who question your right to intervene. For your own sake, it's probably best to mind your own business!

  11. Wow, I also didn't know (or would even have suspected) that a "star system" existed.

Reminds me of being back in grade 1. LOL

I think on this forum the star rating gives the member more leeway with the moderators, the more stars you have the more chance you have of getting away with defamatory comments or flaming or trolling. That's how it seems to me although no doubt it will be denied, but if you look at what some posters get away with compared to others then check their post count you will see the difference in attitudes towards the poster. Whether its done consciously or subconsciously I don't know.

This post will be edited or deleted or I will be warned for dissing the hierarchy on the forum.

    Interesting!

I always thought the fact that some members got away with A LOT more than others was because they were members of the "old boys club", so to speak. It occurrs to me that the vast majority of the posts made here at TV are placed by a very small core of people who seem to live, breath and eat TV forum. That's not meant to be a critisism - I always assumed that those who seem to make several post everyday are basically shut-ins, perhaps suffering a physical handicap that severely restricts their mobility, and TV forum is a welcomed way for them to keep in touch with society.

But I'll check out your theory some day.

  12. Contact your local Pattaya Today reporter mate, get them chasing the story.

It's a job for Howard Miller and his boys, or maybe Pattaya SWAT may get called in.

LOL!!! This is certainly too meaty for Howard M. His style is more about getting a least 6 (very poor quality) photos of people who have stolen petty items, were caught smoking a J, or other such heinous crimes.

Besides, he only goes where he's told to go by the police.

  13. Toner is a powder, and you want it to stay dry. As others have said, for those who do a low amount of printing and don't particularly need color, a laser is the way to go.

I bought a new low-end laser printer 2 years ago for about 2,100 baht. It came with a half-full cartridge. Sometimes I wouldn't print anything for weeks or even a couple of months, yet every page came out perfectly. (That would certainly not be the case for a ink based printing system.)

As my cartridge eventually began to run out of toner, I would take it out, give it a shake and continue to print a few more pages. But lately it finally got to the point where I had to replace the cartridge or get it refilled, so I checked my options and decided to get it refilled for 600 baht. I'm happy to say that the refill worked fine and I'm printing again. I expect that this refilled cartridge will give me a few years of trouble free printing. As I was putting the cartridge back in, it occurred to me that when I had an Epson ink crap printer, I was paying about 600 baht just for the black ink cartridge, and it wouldn't last very long, at all.

  14. "The noise had been ongoing all day, and although the local residents had at first shown patients, they had now had enough and wanted the police to sort it out."

Did they parade the patients around the soi for a while, or did this gifted journalist mean "patience"?

I sure hope the patients weren't too sick when the locals showed them, and I wonder if seeing these poor sick people been marched around the soi, made the Aussie gamblers feel compelled to stop.

I love these funny little pseudo-journalistic attempts in Pattaya. This guy should get together with Howard Miller at Pattaya One News and they could really butcher the English language.

  15. Pattaya, October 29 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] :

Mr. Verdegaal claimed he was attacked by the woman who he met in front of Mike Shopping Mall in Central Pattaya during a photo session inside his room at Maman Mansion.

    Amazing!

    How did he manage that?

Can you explain please Mr. Miller?

LOL - I guess he moved his room to the front of Mike Shopping Mall. That must be quite a sight.

If nothing else, the feeble journalistic attempts by Pattaya One News are usually entertaining.

Actually, that's not true. With their horrible habit of pointing their cameras in poor suffering victims homes during painful and/or embarrassing moments, it's mostly an offensive e-rag.

  16. As a professional writer, I can't hold it against someone who can't write properly, but who might be a very good mechanic,(get rid of this one) or some other trade. I'm sure no mechanic, and they could laugh at what I don't know.

There are a few suggestions I could make that might help others, though. On a computer screen, it is much easier to read if there are no more than two or three sentences in a paragraph. Although it's quite easy to read a book of text, for some reason it's hard to read a whole bunch of sentences strung together without any separation on a computer screen... even if it IS a proper paragraph.

One of the most common mistakes I see are the words "loose" and "lose". Although the two words have entirely different meanings, they are often used in place of each other and in the wrong context. It doesn't really matter, though, because we know what the writer means in any case.

And, I often throw in commas where they aren't really needed if it helps the reader.

Sorry, but I can't resist. LOL

As a professional writer, you should look a little closer at your use of commas. When sentences begin with a prepositional phrase (i.e. As a professional writer) or a subordinating conjunction, a comma is required. They are also needed in compund sentences but not needed for compound verbs or compliments.

I've taken the liberty of adding bolded commas in your post where they belong.

I doubt that you'll appreciate my critique of your post, but as I said in the beginning, I just couldn't resist.

Sorry, but what are ''compund sentences''?

LOL - I never claimed that I could spell, but I'm pretty sure about my use of correct grammar.

BTW, you'll notice that I gave my reply using a compound sentence.
