  1. They only problem I ever had with one of the staff was when I once gave a 500 baht note to the girl at the counter outside to pay for my 300 baht cover. When she walked back with my 200 baht change, she stuffed it into her bra and said "Tip for me", and started walking away. I shouted "hey!" several times and she just ignored me and kept walking. I had to actually chase her across the bar and grab her arm to make her stop. When I told her she couldn't keep the 200 baht, she took it out and thew it on the floor. I couldn't believe how rude she was, that just doesn't happen in Thailand often.

That sounds like the ladboy who works on the door :) she's harmless really :D

It sounds like I'm happy I always avoided the place. People already told me it sucked, but reading this really takes it to the next level.

I'm typically a low-class establishment kind of guy but this is just completely outrageous.. All the little student pubs in the Santitham area or near Kham Thiang remain perfectly respectful and no double pricing. Why would anyone bother with places like Mandalay or Spicy.. And 'keep out the riff-raff', please, those places ARE the riff-raff of society.

  2. Sorry to ask a question that's a little beside the topic, but in general why do people still buy hifi sets? Isn't it just a case of buying an amplifier and speakers and connecting an iPod (or similar) player? Or is it that it's part of a home theatre system that includes DVD / Blu Ray playback?

  3. Just maybe it's got nothing to do with regional heritage, but everything with hiring a bunch of hilltribe chicks fresh off a mountain for a 100 baht/hour local massage shop, because at those prices you can't really afford people with any kind of experience or training.

So instead of trying to find a person from a particular region, I'd try to change the type of establishment where you go for massages? (Something that's very long running and not a typical tourist place. The Old Medicine Hospital on Wualai comes to mind.)

  4. I think it's called Lucky Star or some such. Been there once, years ago. It's fairly legit as far as gentleman's entertainment goes, but not a first pick if you're a woman, then you really just want to head for the spas and/or mom & pop massage shops.

Typically when buildings look like that you already know what the deal is..

  5. would really prefer to go out with/date an older western guy, say 45-55 against a poorer western guy in his 20's and

I think this discussion is incredibly cute, but let me be the one to point at the elephant in the room: --> Why can't they date both? Get the best of both worlds.

  6. Yes I can.

How much do you want to spend and do you have any other requirements on where the land should be, and how much land you'd like?

Eg. in town or outside, how far from town, any preferences for the area/surroundings.. etc.

  7. UG, get your morning coffee: what I meant was that the women here might still be interested in a lezzie tuk tuk drivestress, so he shouldn't assume that his double-ticket scenario wouldn't work across the board with women tuktukstresses. He's like totally leaving out women and is completely male focussed. Thats just *SO* sexsthist. <hand-thing>

  8. Better still (though this won't work for the majority of you guys who like ladies), there are a few cute gay tuk tuk drivers out there, get their numbers and you get reliable service plus two rides for the price of one :D Believe me, its true..........only in LOS! But a caution to our straight brethren, those lady tuk-tuk drivers, sorry but most of them are lesbians :)

So? Some of the people here are women. Are you sexist or something?

  9. It just depends if you speak thai. there is a string of karakoe bars along some lonely road not too far from the night bazzar where you can find a constant stream of them fresh ones from the village,

Fresh ones from the mountain more like. Burma, Lao, China.. you name it. The up-side is that it doesn't matter that much anymore if you speak Thai. If you do, chances are your Thai is better than theirs. :)

and lastly.... if you have a European car with tinted windows, just cruise slowly by one of the universities around 4pm and roll down the window halfway when you see one you like and watch what happens...

Thought that was the vocational colleges more like? Or Phayap perhaps, they're all ******, or so I've heard. :D

  10. 12) I learned how you pick up the best freelancers without paying the mammasan.

Um.. If they're freelancers then what's got a mamasan to do with anything? Noob! :D

Anyway, generally speaking I'd say that when you're an expat:

    13) You're past any inclination to try to label foreigners in Thailand into categories. :)

  11. I really don't care about skin color, whatever it is.

If I was looking for a girlfriend then I would however prefer someone who's somewhat compatible in background/lifestyle/education/etc.

(Though judging from your post in perfect English, your education level is likely better than mine. :) )

  12. I'm with Sao Jiang Mai on this one. The woman's sex life is none of our business, even we have access to it through someone else's deceitful actions. What she does in the bedroom with her lover is entirely a private matter.

I'm (almost) a card carrying red-shirt, but in this case I got to agree. If someone is elected with an overwhelming majority then there should not be some clown court in Bangkok banning her on a technicality, especially one that's widely known by the people voting for her. Same rationale as why I generally support the Red side of things.

( As for sex videos, I wish more people made them. :) )

  13. Why is that corrupt? It's a commission. It applies to just about anything you might sell or purchase in Thailand. We strayed on to this thing in relation to condominiums, but rest assured it applies to everything and anything.

With regards to ex-bg-tg-spouses, many do it on the small stuff, i.e. just about any purchase. Could be as innocent as claiming that fixing the car or getting a hair cut costs a couple hundred/thousand baht more than actual.

And it goes all the way up to condo's, houses and land.

Also, there seems to be a misunderstanding that it's limited to Thai spouses of Westerners.. not so. My wife bought some land recently, and the land NEVER was referred to two different parties for the same price!! First of all the husband (Thai) of the (Thai) seller thought his wife was selling it for less money. Then the land department also was told the amount was less, though by a different amount, to be able to manage the taxes. Then the bank who suppplied a loan based on the value of the land was communicated a different price again, this time higher than the actual amount. And then finally in the middle of it all there was the question if a different price needed to be communicated to me, which my wife declined as it was her own $(&(#*$# money. :)

So there you go. Put on gloves and boots before doing anything financial in Thailand because it's guaranteed to get messy!

  14. You can take the Canal Road, and then cut across towards the Hang Dong road once you're South of Hang Dong.

Check google maps; the first time it's probably easier if you do it on the way back from Carrefour, just dive into any soi towards the West, most of them end up on the Canal Road.

When starting out at the older Big C though it's only really worth doing that detour in rush hour. At other times it's only a minor delay to crawl through Hang Dong.

The Canal Road is effectively planned to become a bypass to Sanpatong and Hang Dong. I can't wait for it to become a 6 lane highway all the way to Sanpatong..
