Thailand is undergoing a political turmoil right now, one side of the political wrangling has already called for foreigners to be kept out of Thailand
A man of few words I see.

Before the mod..ators move this topic to motoring it refers to a specific individual in CM.
I have seen photos of a small motorcycle in CM that has been converted to a drive from wheelchair motorcycle.
If the owner or anyone who knows him could PM me or contact me I would really appreciate some information as one like it may serve my needs well when I get there.
Harry, you might try contacting my friend 'German' Joe at 053-251-1856. He is a motorcycle mechanic as well as a fabricator of various types of motorcycles. I'm sure he can make something for you at a resonable price
Thanks ajarn
Ajarn, I should be arriving in early November as my compensation payment is now through.. It isn't much so don't get too excited.
I would really like to take you and your wife...and kids if you have any to have a meal and talk about the changes that have taken place in the 25 year since I lived in Thailand.
I have a bit of a disability in that I am an left leg amputee but more that I have severe emphasaema so have trouble moving about. I currently use an electric wheelchair.
Please let me know if you would be able to see me when I get there.
regards
Harrry
PS I speak a little thai still so thai places are ok.

Now just what is the man with the white shirt pointing to.

If notes can be made of plastic as Australian ones are I am wondering if they can be made of foam plastic so when we keep them under the mattress we can all get a good nights sleep.
Also does the US guarantee on deposits apply to foreigners or does it only apply to Americans as their Americans with Disabilities act does.

............, I nearly moved to Thailand. In July this year after years of pondering I finally decided to pack up and live the dream, only to lose my bottle at the last moment within only days of leaving.
The fly in the ointment was that to fund my overseas life and a prospective business I had to sell my home. That would mean that if for any reason I couldn't renew my Visa or was deported (possibly at a whim) I would have nowhere to live back in the UK. I have only one living relative in the UK and he was reluctant to support me in such an eventuality.
I had a possible business partner already lined up in an established business and even the possibility of romance and more. I have Thai friends in Bangkok aswell. Ever since then I have been in a no-mans land wondering whether I should have done it or not.
I would appreciate any opinoins anyone might have especially regarding the "ease" at which I see some people residing in Thailand, yet the varied warnings about re-entry visas etc not being granted.
Thanks
Why dont you rent out your house for a while. Go to thailand for a year and see if it meets your expectations. You may be able to finance your needs with a small mortgage on your house paid by your tenant.

For some time I have been trying to find out the current costs that would be involved when I move to Thailand.
Surprisingly I found a source of much information today, the BOI website. Especially the tab How to do Business.
THe BOI Thailand http://www.boi.go.th/english/default.asp
in case the url is deleted remember boi and that it is a government site in thailand and you want the english page.
This site is rare. It is well designed and contains relevent and comprehensive information easily locatable. My congratulations to the webmaster.

Btw is Thai Military Bank controlled or operated by the Thai Military or is the Thai Military substantial shareholders of the bank?
The Ministry of Finance is shareholder. After "controled" or "operated" by the military, I don't know... But TMB has certainly some tight uniforms (or family/friends) among its staff.
The dutch financial group ING bought 30 % last october.
If you go to their website or google their history you will see it was set up to hold the funds of the military ....(possibly so they could not be used against them in coups which seem frequent in thailand).

I went through this some time ago. You must have a travel document for the child you must register the birth at the Australian embassy in Bangkok if you do not you will have endless problems. You must then get an Australian passprt or the baby. Once you have an Australian passport for the child you will be asked by the immigration at the thai airport for a Birth Certificate. If you have this there is no problem they just make a new entry card for the baby so you can exit. If you are on your own as a father you may, as I did have a very nice Thai girl sit next to you and talk for a while, she turned out to be immigration as she said something to the last immigration policeman before the plane and I was treated very very politely.

This reporters comment was obviously a 'filler'
THe important thing is that they had to go 100 metres to sea and then 200 to shore before filling in the hole
After all LOS is a country of laws. :D

May be an idea to put some cat 6 computer cable to each room. Remember even if you do not need the computer now you may want it or the ability for security or remote control in future.

we aren't allowed to know what it is.
Wasted MY time, anyway.
\Another case of "Not what you know but WHO you know".

. As livinginkata noted, one only requires a home licence and IDP. As to the 60% figure, that is also highly suspect, however I have been unable to find actual accident stats on the Web.
Remember the licence must be a specific motorbike licence and I am not completly certain you can get an IDP for them.

After sitting through the low season at least they could have let him earn his lawyers fees in the high.

Court orders female friend of tutor to pay Bt2mln
The Central Juvenile and
Family Court ordered Pemika Veerachatraksit, a close female friend of
famous tutor Prakitpao Tomchitchong, to pay 2 million baht plus 7.5 per
cent interest for adultery.
The case was filed by Mr Prakitpao's wife Alisa,
who accused Ms Pemika of having extramarital relations with her
husband. The defendant had approached her husband in mid-2006 and they
developed a close relationship.

Do you mean that the 500B I left in the Bangkok Bank Chiangmai 30 years ago will be gone. I thought with compound interest it would fund my retirement there in a few weeks.

But if he is like me if something is only a little broken it isn't worth getting someone to fix it. Of course after I am finished it is broken enough.
Harry, Nienke is a lady, and a very lovely one at that.
Of course she is a lovely....all ladies are aren't they.
-
Nienke, I mean this in a light hearted manner, your reputation for fixing things is not good.
I recall in a number of earlier posts, your pleas for help to fix things after you tried doing so yourself only worsening the original condition.
Today you have done it again. Binoculars? Sheesh.
I had the good fortune to meet Steve Irwin in Indonesia a few years back prior to his death. We were talking about his various wildlife interests in Indonesa and other parts of the world. One thing he mentioned was "Stick with what you know and you wan't go wrong". Sadly he didn't know much about stingrays.
So a word of advice Nienke, stick with looking after your dogs. If something needs fixing get someone who knows how to fix it to fix it.
But if he is like me if something is only a little broken it isn't worth getting someone to fix it. Of course after I am finished it is broken enough.

THB account holder of 500THB a month.
