What different kinds of documents do they accept for proof of residence?

I asked Ubon Immigration recently for a proof of residence doc and the answer was, "Not our job. Tourist police do that"

Update on renewing Thai driver's licence (December 2019):
Today I exchanged my temporary driver's license (2 years) for one of 5 years, at DLT Ubon, Ring Road.
No test was required, I only handed over copies of the following: temporary driver's license (+ original), passport and visa (+ original), medical certificate, yellow tabien baan and pink ID card (or proof of residence by the Tourist Police).

Does the DLT still accept the International drivers permit to get a Thai drivers?

I often see reference made about "home country" licence exactly what is meant by that?  I hold an Australian Passport but haven't lived in Australia for 15 years have no drivers from Oz, but I have live HK 15 years and have a HK driver's licence - can this be used?

    Yes, they do: https://www.dlt.go.th/en/international-driving-licence/

It appears if you have a US license: no IDP needed, no translation needed, no written, no driving test needed?

Correct: if you have a driver's license in the English language, you do not need a IDP nor a translation. You do not have to take the written and driving test. You only have take color-blindness, depth view and reaction time tests.

  8. Just got my Thai driver's license. Here is the current info (December 2017) for someone who does not have a driving license in the English language. I went to the Department of Land Transport (DLT) in Ubon Ratchathani (Ring road 231).

    You need:
    1. Your passport + copy of the first sheet + copy visa and stamp date of entering Thailand. A visa is apparently not necessary. I did not even have a visa, because this time I stay less than 30 days in Thailand.
    2. Certificate of residence. Get this at the Tourist Police (Headquarters in Warin). Take your passport + copy, and also proof of your whereabouts, for example tabien job of your spouse + her ID card and copies.
    3. Medical certificate. To be collected in a clinic. In my case, four doors next to the entrance of the DLT (80 Baht).
    4. International driving license version 1949 + copy. Attention, Thailand does not accept version 1968.

    Procedure:
After DLT has checked your documents on the third floor, four tests will follow:
    1. Recognizing red, yellow and green.
    2. A test in which you have to draw two rods with a cord on the same line (depth view, I suspect).
    3. A reaction test: you have to brake when the light on the unit turns red.
    4. To be able to recognize red, yellow and green on another device.

If you succeed, you have to watch a two hour video containing the traffic rules. Then you get your documents back. With that you go to the second floor, you pay 205 baht, they make a passport photo and then they make your driving license. That is valid for two years.

  9. Not easy to find apparently in Thailand. I mean the one with a closed door (no glass door) with drawers as we use them in Europe and US.

I only found one model: Mitsubishi, 5 drawers + 1 compartment, 144 liters, only 55 cm wide. Actually I prefer a bigger one.

I already went to HomePro, Makro, Power Buy, ...

    Any suggestions.
BTW we live in Isan (Ubon Ratchathani)

  10. My wife tells me in her village (T. RaiNoi, Ubon) a big antenna pole has been installed. When buying some box (which should be connected to the tv-set) one could watch 46 channels without having a satellite dish. The box costs 600-1000 Baht, she thinks. She doesn't know exactly what it is called (miston tv???). Anyone of you knows more?

  11. I am told the compressor of the Daikin outdoor unit should be replaced. New comppressor would cost 18,000 THB.

What do you advice: should I get it repaired of by a new unit. This one is about 15 years old.

Suggestions where to buy a new one? Should be a place that installs the aircon as well. (Not necessarily Daikin)

  12. My electricity meter (outside on a pole at the streetside) is broken. My wife tells me we have to BUY a new one from the electricity company. At home in Europe you just rent them, so I am a little confused.

Prices should range from 15000 to 18000 Baht (30 amp)??
