  1. well i met my partner 8yrs ago in a sleezy bar in Chiang Mai.

Immediately saw that she was an angel fish in a turd bowl, so yanked her out of it pronto..

now we're happier than ever & everything is in her name.

I relate to your story and I have my GF the same way.At first we had our differences, our age for one and different cultures, but 6 years later we closer than ever. She and her family tried to milk me and they did a little but I learned from my mistakes and now they don't ask for so much. All we have now is a used car in her name and a couple scooters,2 dogs and we live on her land in remodeled uncles house in Surin.
  2. I know this product popular with the Thai but is it favorable to English speaking clients. One time installation and no monthly fees? Was looking to set up for the uncle but looks good because now I pay over 2000 thb for gold package UBC.But I like movies, news and all types of sports.

  3. What the best alternative to get visa for Vietnam.I will only be in Bangkok a few days so going to Vietnam embassy probably be difficult.Should I go online with a company and get one of those visa on arrival that I get stamped later. Or can I get a letter from a travel agency. Also my TGF all she needs is her passport? Does the same requirements as my passport exist, meaning her passport has to have 6 months at least before expiring.

  4. Going to vietnam and any info would be appreciated.Any recommendations on hotels in the city. Want to go to HaLong and probably do a tour on a junk.Do I need to get a visa here in Thailand or do they give a tempory one at airport, I'm only going for 7-10 days.I'm going with my TGF so going to be a pretty respectable trip , sight seeing, biking , shopping and good eats.I know pretty vague post but just looking for a few tips.Last thing what about the currency, do you walk around with a couple million Dong on you. Do they have big notes? How much should I expect to pay for taxi to center of town, 40 min? is every thing on bargain system?

  5. I'm only coming for 78 days then have to come back to states.I plan on traveling out of country at least once during that time, most likely by plane. My question is if I get a single entry visa once I leave the country the visa is void when I come back and I get a visa on arrival.Or I just get a visa on arrival when I first come and I will be able to stay 30 days and leave some where and come back in on plane and get another visa on arrival plus extension (30+30 days).Opposed to getting a dbl visa I can leave when ever I want and come back and still be able to stay the whole time, 60 days + 1 -30 day extension.I hope this makes some sense.

  6. I feel like a insensitive prick for starting sch a dumb ass topic ! I guess after living here for 6 months I have a lot more on my mind than traffic and go -go's.I do feel blessed that I can afford to go where I want when disaster hits. And I appreciate all the replys that have enlighten me to my selfish thoughts and will take them to heart.

  7. Yup, Bangkok is very quiet. Even the dry areas are peaceful and traffic is very light

    Makes getting around a breeze

If issue with traffic and full gogo bars is your biggest problems, life is pretty good

and I think your rant is ill timed considering thousands or people are

flooded out and have nowhere to go or cannot afford to go anywhere

yea you are right. I apoligize for being so insensitive to all the problems the Thai people are experiencing.

  8. Came to Pattaya and now busy as hell with horrible traffic and packed go-go's. Wish I would of stayed in BKK because my brother told me it's quieter than he's ever seen. I bet the girls are desparate and giving great discounts.Of course there's never a shortage of girls here but getting around is a nightmare especially down on beach road.

  9. "Bangkokians" = Two journalists, two secretaries (at The Nation), someone who "works in the entertainment industry" (not a bar girl, I'm guessing) and a retired air force marshal.

OK, so that's how the middle classes are coping. Any news on the other 90%?

Our company works in the entertainment industry, too. Nothing to do with bars or hookers.

There is a whole other world of entertainment in this country that most westerners know nothing about.

The kind of normal entertainment you have in your own countries. Concerts, promotion events, exhibitions, fashion shows, seminars, meeting(OK, not really entertaining, but you get the point) etc.

However, I can understand the people that leave because they do not want deal with the uncertainty anymore.

We are probably leaving again, too, but not to Pattaya/Jomtien anymore.

agree with you I was going to the rugby 7's tournament but now that's cancelled I hear.

  10. Going to Pattaya for holliday before flying back to states. Wanted to come back to Bangkok (sukumvit) before I leave on the 1st of Nov.. You think a bad idea, better just stay longer in Pattaya and go directly to airport because of flooding. What a bummer just spent 6 months in Surin with constant rain and now in BKK with rain and water coming.

  11. In the dry season, and open roads, you can drive VT-LP in seven hours. Right now, the road is closed, and unsure when it will open again. Urgent road traffic is routed via a different part of the country taking two days. Reason: Landslide on the VT-LP road due to lots of rain.

Hotels with pool and fitness? Sorry I stay at US$ 20-30/ night, no pool and FTNS. For fitness, get up early, walk up Mount Phousy to the top and back the other side. Will keep you fit if done a few times a week.

In town must: Traditional Arts and Ethnology centre, entrance next to Dara market, on the side of Phousy mountain in the centre of town. If you're there in the next 3 weeks, there's an interesting exhibition at the Project Space gallery, just opposite the entrance to TAEC.

Eat at Tamarind, visit Big Tree cafe and its photographs, and eat lots of great lao food.

PS, I just got back tonight from ten days in LP, loved it!

nice advice on things to do.Wish I could walk up and down mountain but have walking problems but can ride a bike.

  12. Been loving the Rugby World Cup but now going to Luang Prabang for 2 weeks and am afraid I will miss the end.Anybody know of a sports bar that might cover the games. I imagine Luang Prabang pretty small so probably be able to figure it out. I see they have UBC coverage so hope someone has gold package there.

  13. I set up my TGF's momma , money, because she gets a dicount on lottery tickets. Of course at first she gave me money back every 2 weeks but when I went home and came back I never received another dime or baht again. They have burned too many bridges with me finacially but thats another story. What my question is can my GF get a quota or discount to sell tickets, Lets say she bought 5 books at 8000 baht each like her momma does(?).Or would she need to sell tickets for a certain time before they give her a discount. I know the momma got 5-6 books at 37500Baht and she can turn around and have people buy from her at 9000baht and they sell. You do the math it seems like a good buss. for her and they leave me alone some what.Trying to find some thing for my GF to do while I go home and she way to lazy to go out and get a regular job. Can you believe here in Thailand they make you stand all day while you work,LOL.

  14. Any body have any recommendations on reasonably priced hotels or guest houses in town center. One with pool and or fitness would be ideal. Under 60usd a night. Also want to do a couple excursions, river trip, caves, temples, etc..Any tour companies that you have used before and can recommend.Would it be better for me to wait till I get there to make sure I get good price and they have reliable transportation.Plus has any body been over to Vang Vieng and what did you think of the place. Is it mostly for back packers with muddy streets and cheap guest houses. I'm not a drinker so not looking for a place to party.Any advice for first time visitor to Laos, Luang Prabang, would be appreciated.
