  1. Moto GP from Quatar, starts midnight Sunday, 125/250/motogp, all races shown live till 4 am,

    UBC Gold, channel 64 ESPN.

Nothing wrong with UBCs coverage of Moto GP, F1, and A1 gp,

    Enjoy it,

Where d'you get that info Lickey? All I saw on their website was what I copied and pasted in the OP..... yes, I saw it was UBC Gold, yes, I saw the "main race" was advertised as starting at midnight and yes, I saw it was on channel 64 but cannot find any other info anywhere ref it being the normal 4 hour programme. I hope you are right!

I'm still a wee bit sceptical as the MotoGP is advertised as an evening race. However, Qatar being only 4 hours behind Thailand, that means they've got Rossi et al hanging around till 10 at night before the off?

  2. Canterbury Tales cafe has a good selection of 2nd hand books, plus new ones that are usually cheaper than the bookshops.
You should be able to satisfy a few of your titles at TOPS bookstore (second floor).

However Joseph Wambaugh is really rare here for some reason. If it's any help I recommend 2nd hand book stores in the Philippines (a lot cheaper & a lot more variety) stock up next time you visit Manila.

Yes thank you Gents. However, both these places are in Pattaya. Er, without being rude, please read the OP again? The turnover of my favourite authors in all Pattaya book shops is way too slow for me, so I'm always on the hunt for new shops.

I've never been to Manila but I do about 3K baht's worth in Gecko Books Chiang Mai every December when I ride up there for Bike Week!

  3. I just used Eco-Pest and it seems to be doing the trick. Foreign owned and reasonable price.

Safe for kids and pets but gets rid of all the nasty critters!

    Call Mark on 0843309564

Yep, quite agree. He sells a spray called Permedan which is brilliant against ants and cockroaches.

  4. I think where the man puts his hand below the lower back to 'guide' or show 'support'........ I've seen some "Me cool macho farang please love me" jocks who do this repeatedly around the BTS, Siam, Pattaya, thinking it radiates charm, or some kind of charisma.

Hahaha.. you just reek of being one of the 'nerds' that come to Thailand and find even nerds get laid here.

How is putting your hand on the back of a woman 'macho' or 'jock' as you say in a negative way?

Real men protect their women, and do small things like this naturally in their home country, and normal women appreciate it. If a thai woman feels this makes her look like a prositute then she must have incredibly low self esteem.

I agree you have to be more careful here, but it is perfectly normal thing to all over the world.

:o Hear hear, well said that man. Y'know, there are still some Gentlemen left...... even in Pattaya!

  5. Yes, with a vengance. And like you, when I was younger and full of piss 'n' vinegar I loved it but as the years roll by and Songkranners get more out of hand I prefer to hide indoors with a pile of paperbacks!

Thought I'd escaped about 5 years ago...... was with the missus in the market up Nong Han way and some bloody guy dumped a bucket of iced water all down my back, much to the amusement of the locals...

One year I was riding a scooter up Theprasit well after dark and there was a sump truck slowly driving up the centre of the road with two drunk farangs spraying pumped water all over every other road user.....

One time I was riding a very expensive high powered bike down Soi Punch-Up Yamoto and this drunk bg leaps out in front of me with a blue pvc pipe water cannon, jabs it into the fairing/mirrors and cracks the whole bloody lot......

    Yeah, love Songkran!

  6. not just middle classes carl. all classes.

Yes, he probably should have been cut some slack as an ignorant farang, But for the poster who think she is "stuck up", hardly. It is not polite in Thai culture for a man to touch a woman he hardly knows.

So go back and read the OP again. Oh, don't bother, here's the relevant part:

"I know this lady as she is a good friend of a Thai male I know. ( I have known her about a year or so. She will stop and talk to me if she sees me out. ) "

    Hardly knows? Nah!

And why is he an "ignorant" farang?

  7. The title asks it all. Please do not direct me to Pattaya's bookshops...... I know them well!

Also below, my current wish list. If anyone has any of these I'll pay 100 baht each or credit against something on our menu.

  8. Apologies for my lack of clarity on who phoned. It was the same friend who asked me to pass on the message. Seems she phoned him at about 2 a.m. after the club had shut. So maybe an hour after I passed on the message.

So no thanks for passing on a message, she just phones your mate to complain you touched her. Sounds like a snotty stuck up hi-so wannabe and I'd blank her from now.

I am very tactile, do not mix exclusively with bg's ( :o:D ) and have never had a complaint in 18 years. Thai's themselves are very tactile. The "but you're a farang" bit...... <deleted>. If they haven't got the class to address you properly (chao dun chart/bathet) then they don't have the class to have grounds to complain. IMNSHO.

  9. Sorry to hear about that Gaza...... I knew him long before I met you and have never really questioned yours and his relationship because it's none of my business. I am now presuming that all the physical shit you had to deal with were related to the above?

  10. ^ That was the shop before..... Siam Racing? Nice lil bullet hole "warning" pumped through the glasswear! Y'know he was heavily involved with the Thai Auto Trader magazine too?

I actually got on very well with him...... he is your typical "wide-boy rough diamond jack the lad"....... just keep your wits about you!!!

  11. We gave UBC up years ago, please join us, UBC is totally useless on sport you would do better on live up date via yahoo or foxsport update, I kid you not. :o:D

    Tell me more!

I actually found the original UBC Gold package (1,500 baht pcm) was great for soccer loving customers but we've also built up a good clientel of "petrol heads" who like to use us for the F1 and MotoGP.

  12. Yep, closing down. I think Scott has finally come to the end of the road....... nice to hear he actually made it out of the country without being shot, as opposed to just his showroom glassware taking the bullet!

    "Fat sweaty looking cun_t" 55555!

  13. Qatar was not a race... It was testing. It got much more news attention then most tests because it was the last test this season.... Still just testing 1.2.3......

Sorry, I don't understand. What d'you mean by "was"........ the MotoGP season kicks off this coming Sunday with an evening race in Qatar. We get to see it in Thailand, live, at midnight. However, in previous years the programme has been 4 hours long and used to start with the 250cc Motorcycle World Championship, then the 500cc and culminate in the main race, the Grand Prix. Now, from what their website tells me, we will only get coverage of the Grand Prix.

2009 FIM MotoGP World Championship calendar:

    April 12th* - Qatar - Losail

    April 26th - Japan - Motegi

    May 3rd - Spain - Jerez

    May 17th - France - Le Mans

    May 31st - Italy - Mugello

    June 14th - Catalunya - Catalunya

    June 27th - Netherlands - Assen

July 5th - United States - Laguna Seca

    July 19th - Germany - Sachsenring

July 26th - Great Britain - Donington Park

    August 16th - Czech Republic - Brno

    August 30th - Indianapolis - Indianapolis

September 6th - San Marino & Riviera di Rimini - Misano

    September 20th - Hungary - Balaton

    October 4th - Portugal - Estoril

    October 18th - Australia - Phillip Island

    October 25th - Malaysia - Sepang

November 8th - Valencia Ricardo Tormo - Valencia

    *Evening Race

  14. Looks like the powers that be at UBC have screwed up yet another terrific Sunday event...... I refer to the info on their website regarding this Sundays inaugural 2009 racing from Qatar. This is what they tell us:

    12-Apr-2009 23:57 64 MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 - MAIN RACE :

So all we get to see this season is the main race? But hey, never mind, maybe they will fill the missing 2 hours with football. :o

  15. My (1st) Thai wife had a UK passport in her married name and Thai passport in her maiden name. She was always able to do exactly as you've described above, getting away with the comments about "forgetful, incompetent, busy, or harassed" etc etc officials at the "other" end! After all, it's not the Thai entry officials remit to check up on the exit officials of another nationality, and vice versa! But....... this was many years ago so I wouldn't have a clue if it can still be done. Very grey area, I should imagine.

  16. Nice beaches down Ban Saray and Ban Amphur.

Or go down Port Sattahip way, past U-Tapao airport, continue till you hit the military checkpoint, turn left and voila!

Or go through Rayong and then at the first (?) lights turn right down to Hat Mae Ramphung......

Or go through Ban Phe a few klicks to Hat Suan Son......

Or go past Hat Suan Son to Laem Mae Phim.

  17. Yep, the Kanchanaphisek ring road all the way to the Samut Sakhon exit....... here's a little snippet I wrote for a bike trip report a few months ago...... have no idea if the toll booths are now in place.......

"Now originally I was gonna head for the Phra Pra Daeng ferry, but the night before I was told the new Kanchanaphisek road was finished but toll booths not in place, so ok for a motorcycle to use. So, just a few klicks after the new airport, there were the signs..... "Kanchanaphisek Road: Outer Ring Road 1 KM".... very well signposted and very easy to find. So off I flew, and I have to tell you I have never enjoyed a ride through/over/past Bangkok quite so much..... I was knocking out up to 150kmph-ish, sun shining, blatting past everything else on the road, the magnificent new Rama IX bridge and the whole Bangkok skyline off on my right, and very very soon came upon signs for Rama II road, Samut Sakhon exit..... so I did.

From there it is a very painless trip through to Samut Songkhram, Petchaburi, Cha Am and Hua Hin...... all in all 320kms (from Jomtien) in just about 3 hours."

  18. Wow! You've had so many nice and polite answers....... sorry, couldn't read 'em all or I'd have started shouting at the screen! Are you old and infirm? Are you a prisoner in your own house? No? So.....grow a set man! Your house, your baby....... lay the bloody law down! What is it with guys coming to live here and going belly up? Jeez!

Ok, 'm probably banned now........ but it'll have been worth it!
