Many offices ask for proof of residence like he was asked for. I don't recall it being asked for at Jomtien before but I suspect it is not that unusual.

    Hi ubonjoe,

I don't know why many people criticise Jomtien Immigration because I was told when I did my first retirement extension in February 2008 to provide a copy of my rental agreement along with the other required paperwork which I did & no problems at all. Done the same every year ( 8 in total ) & no problems ever, I've also had Residence letters to obtain driving licences, & of course done the 90 day reports with no problems.

If you provide all of the required paperwork I've found that they are polite & very helpful.

  2. I went to Jomtien Immigration last Wed ( 01-04-15 ) to obtain my 8th Retirement Extention this time using the Income Verification Letter from the British Embassy.

I arrived at 9-10 am with all the req'd paper work duly signed, was greeted by a very polite Lady Officer, who completed my application by 9-25 am, & asked me to come back the next day (Thurs ) after 10 am.

All in all, a pleasant experience, also the Immigration Office on both days was less than half full, as opposed to being packed out for the last 6 months+

Well good luck to you but this is the Chiang Mai forum and maybe a little too far for us to go.

Not too far if you want excellent service wink.png

I wasn't trying to hijack the Chiang Mai forum, but just saying that if you go with the right attitude,& correct paper work, & are clean shaven, well groomed & are polite & show the Immigration Officers respect at any of the Immigration Officers, then you shouldn't have any problems at all.

But I see all too often at the Jomtien office, people unshaven, with their 'chang" vests on & an ignorant attitude towards the Immigration Officers wondering why they get told to go away & come back properly dressed.

The Officers both Men & Ladies at the Jomtien Office are showing respect to you being always well dressed, with clean uniforms on, is it too much to ask to show them the same respect.wai.gif

Went there yesterday (Friday) for a certificate of residence.

    11.15 Arrived and got ticket,

11.20 Saw officer with paperwork and paid, told to come back 20 mins.

11.30 Certificate ready picked it up and left.

A total of 15 minutes and on a Friday just before lunch.

Fantastic service and I bet the civil servants in our own counties couldn't do as good.

    PAID ?

What was paid for and was a receipt for that payment issued ?

The standard fee for a residence certificate is 300b in Jomtien Immigration.

I have paid the same in the past.

Don't know if this is a country wide fee or it differs from region to region.

The "standard fee" for a certificate of residence is zero, zilch, Nothing!

The provision of such a service is intended to be Free!

Those who pay the "standard fee" are part of the problem.

I had the same experience as peterrabbit last Wed (18-03-15 ) only took 30 mins for residence certificate to renew my 5yr driving licence.

Paid the fee of 300 Baht ( I think it was 200 Baht 5yrs ago ) because there's a sign above the desk that says so.

If you want to argue that it should be free, then take flask of tea & some sandwiches cos you'll be there quite a while,& expect more paper work than what is normally req'd when renewing. Retirement Extention

  5. " .. . Hi I have been doing bank to bank TT but the fees are really high. Any ideas on ways to save money transfer fees, perhaps forex or is there any services that do this for less money than banks, and western union?

Thank you in advance.. . ."

Depends from which country that you are transfering funds from, and the may ways of doing it.

I transfer funds from my UK bank ( HSBC ) in Sterling, to my Thai bank account online, & the new rates are:-up to a maximum of 30,000 pounds per 24 hour period & the fee is 4 pounds, + you get approx 1 Baht ( = 2p approx ) extra after the money is converted to Baht for a small fee by your Thai bank.

The time from bank to bank takes around 4 hours ( but once,& only once ) it took 18 hours.
  6. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

bear in mind a TT transfer costs around 1300 thb per month.

From a HSBC account, you can transfer up to £2000 for a cost of £4 or 220 baht.......

The rate they gave me was competitive....

This is the new transfer fee.

New low fees on international transfers

Make international payments of up to £50,000
for just £4 – or for free to any HSBC account.

  7. Hi Kerryd

I could be wrong about having to do a Visa run with a OA Visa if I am then I apologise.

But I have had a Retirement extension using a Non Imm "O" Visa for 6 years now ( last renewed in May this year ) and as I stated you do not have to do a Visa run, you only have to report to the Immigration every 90 days if you are in Thailand.

If you are out of the country, then the 90 day rule is invalid, but when you come back into Thailand, the 90 day clock starts again the day that you arrive providing your Retirement extension is still valid.

  8. It would appear that a visa run, is a concept the immigration authorities came up with, in concert with the government, to stimulate the economy. There is really no other reason to ask someone with a retirement visa, good for one year, to travel to the border every 90 days. And there is really no other reason to ask a tourist, who wants to extend their visa by another month, to travel to the border. It has to be about cash, stimulating the economy in the way of visa fees, mini van travel, etc, etc.

    Hi spidermike007,

A person with a Retirement extension added on to their "O" or "OA" Visa, does not have to do a "Visa Run"

But they have to report to their local Immigration office every 90 days. with a TM 47 form ( filled in ) & all the other required paper work.

If you have a "O, or an OA Visa & you are under 50 years of age, then you have to do a "Visa Run" every 90 days.

  9. The majority of Thais couldn't care less what ASEAN leaders think. Thais are almost totally detached from the outside world reality. Thais are extremely self absorbed and have a very large over inflated sense of self importance. What ASEAN leaders say and think is of no consequence to Thais. Thais perceive that nothing of the outside world is of relavence to Thais, just take a look at the news everyday.

    +1 you are absolutely correct.

  10. And who owns the place the sand will come from? Probably the same person who provided all the panda crossings that no longer work.

This project is not being done for the tourist it's being done to line someones pocket.

I agree, the installing of the panda crossings was a complete waste of time & money. The money could have, & should have, been spent on building bridges ( especially one outside Central shopping mall ) so that people can cross over 2nd Rd. safely.

Also, it's about time that the authorities considered making the traffic flow on Soi Buakhaow one way, due to the volume of traffic being too much for a narrow street with no pavement at all. It's a nightmare just walking up or down the Soi never mind trying to cross over it.

We know we are inconsequential.....The UDD/Red Shirts know we are inconsequential and don't give a rats ass about what we think, given their unilingual approach.

You said it, so stop being a sad person, posting about something you can't do anything about,

Find something less boring to do...............................like watching a nettle grow in your garden.

  12. It's getting tedious,& quite frankly, boring, reading the comments & threads being posted on here about Thailand,it's politicians,of both parties by Farangs.

It's about time that the Farangs realised that we chose to come here,& many of us chose to get married to Thai Ladies/ Males stay & live here, & abide with this countries Laws.

Any person who is not a Thai national is a Farang, & therefore we cannot vote,or have any say in how the country is run, so it amazes me why Farangs are constantly critising this country,it's people, the Goverment & the opposition party.

Get real,we are Guests & always will be in this wonderful,& beautiful country,& consequently have no say whatsoever in how it's governed & run.

Please try to keep your thoughts to yourself because constantly whinging & moaning doesn't matter one little bit, if you don't like what's happening here in Thailand, then leave & go home to your Mother country, nobody is forcing you to stay.

  13. I paid into mine for almost 40 years - it was called the NHS.

Nobody told me as I made each of those 475 payments that I would ineligible for treatment if I chose to live in Thailand.

Unfortunately the government will be punishing people like you, people seen by them as an easy touch. This all as a result of their implemented policies, that have allowed p1ss takers and immigrants to drain the the pot dry.

    Spot on

I also live in Thailand & married legally to a Thai, but could not take my wife back to the UK to reside,( even if I wanted to ) because now you have to show that you have an annual income of 18,600 pounds minimum.

Which I being an old aged pensioner certainly don't have, & I suspect many other expats here in Thailand haven't either.

  14. I have a 1yr Thai car licence which expires on the 24/09/09, I know it can't be exchanged for a 5yr licence until the 25/09/09. But what documents are required for renewal in Pattaya ie:- copies of passport etc. help much appreciated, thankyou.

  15. The government is also requiring all food shops andresturaunts to only open one day a week in each district, this would ensure that all inter city taxi and bus services are used to capacity. To ensure full employment for the hospitals it is a requirement that all operators of transport vehicles have a a blood alcohol reading above 0.08 at all times.

Harry, I hope this an April Fools Day Joke :o

  16. Gents, I'm not sure if this has been asked, my apologies if it has, have tried searching, but cannot find anything relevant.

My friend is going to apply for an extension of stay based on marriage and was wondering if the 400,000 THB that is required to be deposited in a Thai bank at least 2 months prior to the application can be in a foreign currency (specifically GBP)?

He currently banks with HSBC UK and he does have an account at the branch at Silom, with the exchange rate the way it is now, then he would obviously prefer to keep the money in GBP right now, in the hope that the exchange rate increases later in the year, he would deposit the GBP cash with HSBC Bangkok.

So the question is, will the immigration accept the GBP equivalent of 400,000 THB on deposit at HSBC Bangkok, OR must the cash be deposited in THB and with a Thai owned bank, i.e. SCB, BBL etc.?

The option of 40,000 THB per month income is also viable, he is an ex. fireman and his pension would cover this if the above isn't possible, in which case he will approach the British honoury consul in Pattaya to certify this income, will his salary / pension slips be adequate for proof of income?

    Thanks in advance.

Mattd,My HSBC Account is in England you just show the Honourary Consul Offficial in Pattaya (Mr Barry Kenyon Mob -: 0817827363 ) 6 months statements showing money going in & money coming out via ATM's in Thailand,he will then do a letter for the Immigration, I've just done it on 02/03/09 any doubts give him a call, Good Luck.

Sorry Mattd, forgot to say you must show proof of all income, ie letter from Pension provider,

  18. Pattaya encourages people to come in as early as 90 days before extension expiration.

Jingthing, Yes you correct by the Immigration rules, but i was told by the British Consulate in Jomtien, that they could refuse by saying too early. They told me to re-apply about 2 months before which i did, old retirement extension expired on 02/05/'09 renewed 02/03/'09 extension given till 02/05/2010 no problems at all.

  19. Be very interested to see how they are going to acheive that, cant even make up their minds if 2nd road should be one way, two way, this way or that!!! :o

I agree with you, now I think the authorities should consider building a footbridge outside the new Central Shopping Plaza. It was bad enough crossing the road, now it's an absolute nightmare with the increased traffic.
