  1. These days it's very difficult to find any varieties of Durian other than "Gaan Yao"," Morn Thong" or "Chanee", at least in Bangkok; years ago there were many more around, my favourite was "Gob", this is a somewhat larger fruit, paler green in colour than others and with very thin seeds and firmer flesh.

Also I am not sure if it's a result of bio-engineering or my own olfactory senses becoming dulled with age but the fruit used to smell much stronger to me than it does now!

  2. I've just seen one, well, 5 minutes ago: two farangs talking to a Thai guy on a piece of land next to the main Rawai to Chalong Road. Both farangs were on big bikes. Guess where they parked their bikes?  In the bike lane.

One behind the other? No, side by side so the bike lane was totally blocked. Stupid, ignorant prats.  :o

They have bikelanes In LOS ?? :D

    In Thailand it's a bikelane

In UK it's called the pavement

In the US it's the sidewalk

  3. Many thanks for your responses.  I am kind of amazed that the old place is still there  --  I had assumed that the land would be so valuable that it would have been sold and the club re-located, or just closed down.

We are planning to base ourselves at the Narai next visit, so I will try to get temporary membership if that is possible.

    Just for old times' sake.

    Cheers.

The Land cannot be sold because of restrictions in the original Deed of the Land to the Club ………. although that has not hindered self serving attempts by Committees over the not too distant past to do so.

As you intimate, it’s a valuable piece of property!

  4. Maybe we should all realise that "losing face" is not a uniquely Thai problem / attitude.

It could well be that whoever it was in the British Embassy who wrote the original note warning you that you were not allowed to get married during your girlfriends' visit simply got pee'd off when confronted with your rather smug fait acompli and decided to make life difficult for you in revenge.

Yes, his original opinion may very well be wrong in Law, as others have pointed out, but it will be a long process (I guess) before you can prove that and get official blessing for your marriage.

It's never wise to provoke a confrontation or battle of wills with someone with the power to cause you problems - Thai or Farang.

  5. Yes, he's a great Golfer and it's good to see him back at the top.

I do wish, however, that he would learn to control himself on the course, there is absolutely no excuse for throwing Clubs or slamming them into the ground when something goes wrong; whether he likes it or not he is a role model for many youngsters and should set a good example of how the game is played.

His handlers have apparently been able to put a stop to his previous disgusting habit of spitting all over the place, I hope they now turn their attention to his general demeanour.

  6. Soi Convant  ... The one where California Fitness located.... but the church is on the other end .....

    That's a Church but it's not a Catholic Church.

The only Catholic Church I know of in Bangkok is in Soi Ruam Rudee, on the corner where the Soi turns rowards Wireless Road; outwardly it look like a Thai Temple and can be a little confusing until one spots the Mural of Mary and Jesus above the door.

  7. I read somewhere else that Trucks carrying Gasoline and other "dangerous" goods were being banned from the roads over Songkran to avoid accidents.

If this does happen I can imagine lots of people stranded upcountry with no fuel to get back to Bangkok - it's also pretty pointless allowing the Retail Stations to open because they will have no Product after the first day or so.

  8. The snap test is simple. When you go to sleep put some postage stamps around yourself(the kind you lick). If you get a erection the ring will break. Do this for 3 to 5 days because sometimes being fatigued can reduce or eliminate it.

If your wife is Thai I strongly suggest you do not try this home test with Thai postage stamps!

  9. hello im going to bangkok in 2 weeks time and would like to meet some local women any ideas

My mind reels with so many answers, mainly acerbic or facetious, but it’s getting late so I will restrain myself and check the Thread tomorrow, by which time I am sure you will have received a handsome assortment or replies.

  10. I don't think you or the baby will ever win the citizenship battle.

Let's try and fight. Anything is possible in LOS... :o

It’s up to you of course but I am sure your child has no chance of obtaining Thai citizenship based on information given here.

You should consider your actual Visa / Work situation before drawing undue attention to yourself with Immigration and other Government agencies.

    For example:

    1) I assume you and your wife have been here a while and doing “Visa runs” to keep your “Tourist” status; it’s unlikely but certainly possible that Immigration may decide to take objection to your flouting of the spirit of the Thai Immigration regulations. They will definitely go through your Entry / Exit stamps etc. carefully.

    2) Other Agencies will probably wonder how you have been supporting yourself and your family whilst in Thailand and on a Tourist Visa, so you would be well advised to make sure you have good evidence of bringing money into Thailand to be used for this purpose

Only you can decide whether you should ignore the opinion of everyone who has responded to your Post here and try to claim Thai Citizenship for your child, personally I would think it not worth the chance of causing yourself real problems in other areas.

  11. Mr. Thaksin has voiced concern that the proliferation of such products could damage the morality of the nation.

Just like the proliferation of multi-sized, multi-coloured, and multi-flavoured condoms at the checkout desk of every 7 Eleven in LOS? :D

Noooo wayyyy... that's promoting safe sex isn't it?

    Not promiscuity. :o

Of course they're promoting safe sex - and a very good idea too.

I still recall the fiasco whan Purachai had scheduled a visit to Nana Plaza - all the Condom machines were removed to avoid upsetting him!

    Totally ridiculous situation.

  12. Sorry to say Big Spuds, but your “girlfriend” is obviously a persistent, if not very organised, liar.

Just step back for a moment and consider how things will be in the future – even assuming you eventually get her a Visa to UK and / or marry her.

You already know that she has lied to you at least twice – how one earth can you trust her in the future when you are living together?

Deep inside, surely will you always wonder whether she is – once again – lying to you?

Was she REALLY at a friends Party until 3.00 am?

Was the cash she claimed was lost from her purse REALLY lost?

When the ‘phone rang that evening – was it REALLY just a wrong number?

Was the man she was chatting to in Safeway REALLY just a casual acquaintance?

Do you REALLY want to live the rest of your life in constant crisis and doubt?

  13. I've so far been impressed with Bhat&Sold's classifieds, but Sunbelt's real estate site I've lost track of, and a few others apparently don't know there's life beyond Sukhumvit.

Anyone have any online listings with photos and at least some english?

    Thanks

    cv

Not much English on either of these Sites I am afraid, but they do have a lot of property advertised, particularly the first one:

    http://www.asungha.com

    http://home.pantipmarket.com/

Other sites with more English content:

    http://www.palmtreehomes.net/homepage.htm

    http://www.thaiproperty.com/

  14. 3 of these things were installed on the Terrace at the Sports Club a few months ago and I hate them with a passion.

The noise they make is extremely intrusive and I, too, worry about where the water comes from - or rather, more importantly, where it goes.
