Richard Barrow must be somewhat newly famous in Thailand. I have never heard of him.

Richard Barrow has been around for quite a while but writing in an entirely different genre to Stickman.

Based in Paknam (a teacher I believe) he's a very interesting Food and Travel writer - example :

I would use them more if they just initiated a fill or kill system

I don't need some clerk somewhere deciding that if they don't have chicken in stock they should bring pork.  Too often after delivery,  I still have to go to my nearest Tesco to get what I wanted in the first place

I too have never had that problem, nothing like it.

Check the delivery on arrival - in Bangkok at least any "substitutions" are clearly identified by the simple act of putting them in a Green (or Yellow) plastic bag - they are also identified on the Delivery Order but only in Thai which obviously is a problem for many Farang here.

The only real problem I ever had was on one occasion when I ordered 3 x 1 Litre of Chivas Regal and 1 pack of fresh salad greens (OK, weird diet I guess!). Only upon Delivery did the messenger tell me that Chivas 1 Litre was out of stock so, including the Delivery Fee, I ended up paying Baht 129.- for 1 pack of Salad greens! Irritating but not the end of the world.

    Consort.

"a wife, husband, or companion, in particular the spouse of a reigning monarch.

"Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert"

    synonyms:partner, companion, mate, helpmate, helpmeet;

It's a nice word. Get used to it.

Sailing "close to the wind" here so I will not comment much further, however you may like to consider why the usual terms of "Wife" or even full names such as "Khunying ......" have suddenly been replaced by the word "Consort" - even as a generalisation for "consorts of other cabinet members" as clearly stated in the  Government Statement.

Not quite so; I have three grown kids with dual nationality. The entry in the House Register requires a Thai birth certificate issued by the Amphur which has to show in the upper right corner "Thai" as nationality.
In many cases in the past a half-Thai child was entered as "Non-Thai". Prior to 1991 all children with only one Thai parent were automatically "Non-Thai", a law which got changed by the government under PM Anand Panjarachoon. For years afterwards (in my case my daughter born 1996) the Amphur initially entered "Non-Thai" and only by legal support the Amphur could be convinced that the law changes of 1991 would apply to my daughter. Then only I also applied and obtained (and got granted) Thai citizenship for my two boys born prior to 1991.

If he is registered in a House Register then he is and stays Thai, otherwise the problem is obsolete as far as his military duty is concerned. As you might know or not, you can only get registered in a House Register (the blue, not the yellow one) if you're Thai or holding a Permanent Resident Permit.

This is not at all what I am talking about.

In your earlier Post you wrote:

Ask your mother, if she recorded you in the House Register (your mother certainly knows what it is - the Thai writing would be ทะเบียนบ้าน); if yes, then your citizenship is still active and live - otherwise it expired and there is no problem.

However I absolutely contend that there is no way Thai Citizenship can "expire", regardless of whether or not he / she is listed on the Tabian Baan.

That said, I do concur with your point about children born to one Thai parent before 1991; my own daughter was born in 1983, mother Thai and I, British, was a Permanent Resident which, at that time, entitled my daughter to Thai Nationality. Unfortunately with all the excitement of the birth etc. we let the hospital arrange the Birth Certificate without checking and since they did not know I was a PR, I was just a Farang Father in their eyes - the Birth Certificate clearly stated "ไม่ได้สัญชาติไทย" - "Not entitled to Thai Citizenship".

It took several weeks of work with various Government Agencies to get the Birth Certificate amended to confirm that she was indeed entitled to claim Thai Citizenship - which she holds to this day together with both Thai and British Passports.

    Again, absolute nonsense!

Unless you specifically renounce Thai Citizenship it can NOT "expire".

Of no help at all, but I stopped sending anything by mail TO Thailand long ago as even the cunningly hidden money I sent to my GF was nicked.

However, I am happy to send mail OUT of Thailand.

Who on earth sends Cash in the Mail these days???

Most modern Postage Scanners can easily detect Cash in a package.

    "Arrested at the Airport"!!

Do you seriously think that the Thai Military has Squads of  personnel at Suwannaphum waiting for the   thousands of  Dual Thai Nationals arriving every month - in case just one of them may be eligible for Conscription?

    Repeat : Absolute nonsense.

I believe the parasailing harness is not designed to be able to be released when it is under load e.g. when the person is airborne, which is indicative that the harness was not correctly attached to the parasail, which as the video shows was quite a hurried activity.

The whole set up is clearly for "single occupancy" and is not designed for an additional person, so what was the other person doing climbing up into the rigging? It appeared that he was snagged by the harness at lift off, and climbed up on to Mr Hussey' shoulders to save himself from falling. This action could have caused the harness to release or to fail.

There is absolutely no point in having a "quick release" mechanism when a Parasail is under load; if you jettison the connection to the Boat / Tow Rope, then what do you do? Fall out of the sky like a brick is what you do - simple.

I am a long term Sports Jumper - well, not so much now because at my age my knees are just not up to it - but with a Sports Parachute rig you have a Reserve canopy and if your Main fails you can jettison it and open your backup. There is no such option with a Parasail.

There was a saying whenever a farang was involved in an unfortunate incident, for example, a car accident, that

"If the farang wasn't here, it would never have happened, so it must be his fault" !

Unfortunately, quite a few Thais still believe in this theory !

Quite ridiculous; an urban myth - frequently, mindlessly, repeated however; as such myths often are.

Valid point. My Thai GF has a foot-long scar on her tummy, although that was a government hospital. In Australia or the USA, the surgeon would have been sued for malpractice.

My (Thai) wife has had 2 children delivered here in Thailand, both by C Section - both times the Surgeon used what I believe is called a "Bikini incision", a horizontal incision just above the pubic area, both incisions were in exactly the same place. The oldest child is now 16, the youngest 12 and the C Section scar is virtually invisible.

Both procedures were done at Sikarin Hospital in Bangkok.

  11. I received one of these calls from the US "IRS" sometime last year, telling me my "1040 Tax Return" had been Audited and found to be fraudulent and I was therefore subject to substantial fines etc. etc..

The obvious problem was that I am British and have never filed a US Tax Return in my life!

I must admire the persistence of the scammer however since he spent a couple of minutes trying to convince me that I was still somehow liable for US Taxes!

I should also admit that, unlike the amiable chap in the Posted video, I am rather more vicious with people who cold call me from impressive sounding "Investment Advisors" - which happens perhaps a couple of times a year. I immediately interrupt their recitation of the usual script by asking "Does your mother know what you do?", which invariably results in them asking "what do you mean?" and my rather heated response then is "does your mother know you are a thief? Do you think she would be proud to know that her daughter spends her days trying to steal money from older people?"

Stunned silence followed by a hangup of the 'phone.

  12. You would probably need to come to Bangkok and spend a day or so in Sampeng / Yaowarat - Chinatown - specifically around Soi Mangkorn.

I don't believe any of these people sell on-line, and not mixed Lots, a dozen or so of each item would be the minimum, but you may be able to find a supplier who would take Email or Text / Line Orders and will ship to you after payment has been received.

Their Stock changes frequently however so that may be another problem.

Good luck - your business model sounds both viable and socially responsible.

  13. I have used Tesco online for well over 2 years and have been very happy with their Service - especially for "heavy" items such as Bottled Water, crates of Chang Soda etc.. Book a delivery "Slot" and you can be  99%  sure that what you Order will arrive within that timeframe.

Also, fairly recently, I have begun using Honest Bee for purchases from Villa in particular, and again absolutely no complaints; their "Shopper" will call if an item is out of stock and suggest an alternative. Delivery is invariably the same day, usually within 2 -3 hours. Great service.

By far my favourite however used to be Passion Delivery: One could Order online from a range of different, excellent merchants, - Steaks, Sausages, Seafood, Cheese, Wine etc. and the Order would be consolidated by Passion Delivery and all would be delivered at the same time, in one shipment. Unfortunately Passion Delivery have recently announced a new "system" whereby all these individual suppliers will now process and deliver their Produce independently, meaning not only increased Delivery Costs to me, the Customer (because each individual provider has to charge a separate delivery fee) but also of course delivery from these now uncoordinated Suppliers could well be be spread over several days with little or no advance notice  to me - so I am totally unable to plan when to be home to accept delivery: Not at all convenient!

Back to Tesco and Honest Bee I think!

I know a fantastic place for Thai food in the daytime, but why would I tell anyone and make it popular and then run the risk of the quality going down because of the increased business?

I agree - far better not to tell anyone, so it eventually closes for lack of business. :saai:

So many people have this dumb "I'll keep it as my secret" idea; I can never understand it.

  15. This is actually a constant source of frustration cum amusement for me.

Our Condo has 3 rubbish bins - Green, Yellow and Red - depending on what the waste is and therefore how it is (or should be) disposed of.

My dear wife solemnly sorts our rubbish in accordance with these colour-coded bins, in particular dead batteries, fluorescent light tubes etc. etc. are assigned the the Red bins without fail; however every day I see the BMA Truck pull up to the collection point and simply tip all 3 bins into their standard Green truck!

  16. Your wife may like "flowers" but perhaps, like MANY Thai women, she does not like "cut flowers".

My wife at least would definitely NOT appreciate a bunch of cut flowers; by definition they are ephemeral, living for just a few days then dying off, leaving nothing behind. This is seen by many Thais as, at worst, an allegory of a temporary and somewhat insincere display of love and at best a total waste of money for a few days pleasure.

In my opinion you would display more affection and long term love for her by buying some sort of potted flower / shrub which she can nurture and keep alive for years.

There are some shopping Malls which check my car when I drive in....

They only ever look underneath at one side and never look in any of the bags in the boot etc...

I believe I have said this before in other Posts but "Security Checks" in Thailand are basically a total waste of time.

I often go to major Hotels for lunch - and occasionally Dinner - and many have "Security Guards" stationed at the entrance who will stop me and solemnly roll their "mirror on wheels" under my car, obviously looking for explosives (whilst they are chatting together / texting on their 'Phones at the same time).

Unfortunately the vast majority of these people left School at 16 or so and have zero training in actual , professional, Security work (to be fair they earn probably a maximum of Baht 15,000.- a month so one cannot really expect anything else) however they would not recognise a Bomb unless it was clearly labeled "BOMB" ............. but in Thai script of course!

Thanks I will do this when I get time the problem wasn't viewing before I bought it as it didn't look like this when it arrived the legs were perfect and had a nice finish now over the last few weeks it looks like a candle has dripped all over them.

I am not sure how bad this will get but told it's the sap from the wood coming through .

I am by no means a professional woodworker and have never played Pool / Snooker / Billiards in my life but it seems clear to me that if "sap" is leaking from the support legs then surely the "support" itself is compromised and the table can no longer be true - i.e. level?

Acceptable for a fun game I suppose, but not for more serious competitions.
