  1. I bought a Sony PRS-505 two months back and am very happy with it.

The zoom feature only works on text and not on pictures and some downloaded magazines pages cannt be zoomed.

So I would like the screen maybe 50%bigger and it would be great if there was a colour function.

These are only minor issues, I really like it and cannt see myself without an ereader in the future.

I use Calibre freeware to load the ebooks rather than sonys software.

You can load audio onto aswell if you want.

  2. Hi everyone,

Heres my review for my dentist.

I got some work done at Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit Soi 49.

It was extremely expensive (by Thai standards) but by western standards it was cheap. They were quite sneaky by adding on extra stuff onto the bill like gel fluorides, diagnostic cast ect which I thought would be all included.

    Heres the breakdown of costs,

    Initial checkup: 200bt

    Cleaning: 1500bt

    x-rays: 900

    Fluoride gel: 300

    Cost: 2900bt

    Time: 1 visit -> 2½ hours

    Crown: 16000bt

    Cast post and Core: 9000bt

    Diagnostic cast: 900bt

    Temporary crown: 700bt

    Total Cost: 26,600

    Time: 3 visits total 5hours

    Fillings by 3

    Total Cost: 3,000

    Time 1Visit 75minutes.

So the dilemma I have is whether or not to recommend this place. I found the staff and dentists to be very professional, English was not an issue and the dentist explained everything to me at the start of each session. The equipment does not look totally new but not old either.

The dental work is excellent and the initial Cleaning has being the best I have ever had, they even managed to get the polisher around my back molar. I have never got a Crown done before and as you see it was the majority of the cost but for Thailand I do believe they are overpriced.

On the pain factor side it was a 3 out of 10 on the pain factor which is excellent as its normally a 6 or 7 for me at the dentist.

If money is no option than go here otherwise I’m sure you can get the stuff done for half the price.

  3. Normally never carry my passport with me.

If it was lost,or more likely pickpocketed by some ladyboy at Asok that it would cause so much hassle to replace the passport and visa.

But if I am staying in another part of Thailand (besides Bangkok ) than I bring it with me as most if not all hotels/hostels want to see your passport when you check in.

  4. If you buy a good DVD player [2-3000B] it will have a USB connector on the front.

You can then use a flash drive to bring the avi to the DVD player and it will play on the TV

Most good DVD players will also play MP3's, show jpeg photos, and even rip a song to mp3 for later play.

I bought a cheap DVD player in Carrefour for 1300bt and use it as Paulfr has mentioned. It has a USB connector on the front and plays .avi and mp3.

  5. I pay 640bt a month (in Bangkok) with True. Its really fast except for skpye which will is intermitent (to Europe), as in for 5min its great than will have major delays than good again than major delays again. I tried different VOIP's and have the same issue.

->I will let you know how it goes.

  7. I bought D-link asdl2+ router (2640T) and I am happy with it. It cost 2000 at the start of the year, but I saw it for 1600 in fortune city last week.

I use it for true internet wi-fi.

  8. Well for some reason my Thai credit card wouldnt work on the Eithad website and there was no way I was going to use my Sterling Credit card because its an extra 3% and than not a great exchange rate.

So I logged onto Expedia and bought exactly the same ticket (Bangkok -> London return) but in sterling rather than bt. If you plan to go on exact dates and not change your flights than I would use http://www.expedia.co.uk/.

  9. I could not open up a bank account with my business visa in Bangkok. All the banks in Bangkok (tried about a dozen banks/branches) insisted on a work permit, a letter from my embassy stating that my passport was my passport and other various documents. Ironically the company wanted a bank account number before they would apply for my work permit (well TIS!).

Anyhow I read that in Pattaya the rules are different and it is true. I went to a Kasikorn bank branch, they opened up a savings account with atm card and internet access in about 10minutes.

  10. Excellent place to stay. The gym, swimming pool, staff and rooms are all great. Its so much better than the Oakwood as everything is new and not in need of repair.

The only issue (which made me move out) is that its not near any night life. If it’s a family place you need that this is perfect but if you are single than this is not the place for you.

Shopwise- there is Rama3 Central department store 10minute walk away. Taxi to sukhumvit with no traffic is 15mins and 80bt. It takes 5minutes to get to Skytrain with no traffic and 40mins with traffic.

  11. I’m surprised as I visited the Gym at Ekkami last week and it’s was jammers. The yoga studio was full, the bike studio was full and nearly all the machines were in use. That’s one of the main reasons I didn’t join, it was too crowed. The sales pitch was intense but I just said no.

Maybe the other gyms don’t have the same numbers of members but this one certainly looked like it was making money.

    They quoted 5000bt for 4months.

On a side note: Anybody know how much Fitness First normal charges?

  12. The angle I got from his wee dabble into prose was that :

In the past he loved someone who didn’t love him back (unrequited love). He is not taking any more chances with love so from now on its just lust.

Mind you it’s just a text and it could have being drunk when he sent it (all sms’s should so much cooler when your are drunk!)

    Why not just ask him?
