For anyone wanting to have a go: "Ohms law states that the current in any electrical circuit is directly proportional to the voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance. Providing the temperature remains constant."
At least it was in the early 1960s, Keir Starmer's probably gone and changed it now.

We do bring rather a lot of foreign currency into the country, provide jobs for Thais in general and provide homes for Thai wives. On top of that, we very rarely give the government any problems, in fact we're probably the most law-abiding group in the land. I'd go further than saying we're the golden goose, more like manna from heaven. Guarantee the UK would prefer to have a group like us than the present demographic flooding the country.

I suspect renewing your extension will be tied in with proof of filing taxes. Nothing good will come of this to retirees.
Like the visa based on marriage to a Thai, it'll be a paper chase, only on an international scale. If it means phone calls to HMRC UK, I think I'll top myself. I had to phone them several months back. Nearly an hour sat listening to music waiting to speak with someone, then trying to decypher the West Indian and the Jock on the other end of the line. It was a nightmare.

Some may think cheating is unlikely to get caught here..plus the magic of brown envelope will keep you from harm.

I did just that in Jomtien Tax Office fairly recently, but they refused to let me register for tax assessment. Told me to go away and pay tax to my home country. Didn't even need a brown envelope.

I used to notice this in my last job. Although our shift had a pub crawl every now and then, it was always just the people I worked with, never spouses. Come the Christmas do, in which spouses were invited, I was gobsmacked to see all the guys I worked with turn up with little fat old ladies. I don't know if working close to these guys for long periods made them appear younger than they were, but they genuinely looked to me to be younger and in better shape than their wives. I would therefore have to agree with the OP.

I don’t know how he can be acquitted when there was video evidence of an assault.
That said - the acquittal does bring into question the validity of comments in other threads that us foreigners are treated unequally…. This guy has received a very soft response from Thailands judiciary process.
I think many of us here who see someone attack someone horribly in this manner deserves a lot worse whatever their nationality.
We also have two-tier policing in the west. Coppers are very soft on certain foreigners.

They seem to change each year.
Local Office will never put anything in writing.
Each year different munber of pictures , coloir of ink etc
Any advice welcome for forthcoming renewal
I did mine a few weeks ago at Jomtien and most of the requirements seemed to be as of last year. However, when returning for my visa stamp, they told me to bring my updated bank book, which is something I've never had to do before. No big deal for me, but it does mean an extra trip to the bank.

Has anyone who doesn't work here managed to get a TIN from the Jomtien Tax Office? I visited a few months back but they refused point blank to issue one. My Thai wife explained that I needed to be registered for assessment purposes, but was told to pay tax to my home country. Which I do.

Hi Folks,
Traveling around in Thailand and planning to stay almost a week at the beach.
We have Jomtien Beach in mind, but recently I happened to find an article (I think it was thepattaynews.com) regarding excessive motorbike noise in Pattaya. Lots of motorcycles with modified exhaust pipes and loud big motorbikes touring around, according to that article.
How about Jomtien Beach? Same problem? We value a good night sleep and be able to sit on the balcony watching the sea or relaxing on the beach.., so wondering if Jomtien Beach would be the right choice.
Thanks!
GustavIn my opinion Jomtien's just a smaller version of Pattaya. If you want peace and quiet I'd be looking at somewhere a few miles south and away from the beach. I lived in a Jomtien condo on Beach Road for two years when it was a lot less crowded and noisy. Even then it was becoming overcrowded on weekends and public holidays and I moved further down the coast towards Satahip. Now when I visit Jomtien, I hardly recognise the place, it's become so crowded and built up and there seems to be the permanent noise of bass-heavy music coming from trucks. In my opinion, it's a good place to visit, but not to stay. Especially close to the beach.

Ridiculous to attempt to change overnight. They should have introduced it slowly over a period of a few weeks.
Agreed. Cars and bicycles switch to the right to start with, followed by buses and motobikes six months later.

The streets of Phuket resembled more like a battle scene than a picturesque holiday resort after a furious brawl broke out between local taxi drivers and foreign tourists, raising fresh concerns about visitor safety. What started as a squabble quickly spiralled into a full-blown fight, drawing a large crowd of shocked onlookers.Wichit Police stepped in today, August 30, after a chaotic street brawl between five foreign tourists and three local taxi drivers turned viral. The scrap, which broke out on Wichit Songkram Road by the Darasamut Intersection, was captured in a 26-second video buzzing on social media. The caption said, “It’s famous again #Phuket is very hot, taxis vs tourists in front of a famous shopping mall!”
The video shows a wild scene where punches and bottles fly as tensions flare. According to reports, the fight kicked off when three Iranian women stood in front of a taxi. The driver asked them to move, which set off a chain reaction of irritation. The women’s husbands, reportedly tipsy, joined the fray, and things quickly got out of hand.
The brawl saw the drunk tourists make a swift exit, leaving a smaller group behind who then called the police. The footage also showed a woman’s necklace being snatched in the melee.
Online, the incident sparked a firestorm of comments, with users divided. Some slammed the rowdy tourists, while others called for tougher action against such behaviour.“Don’t blame only Thais. There are a lot of bad tourists in Patong.”
“Good people have a hard time, there are only scumbags and thugs. Officers shouldn’t make the law weak.”
In response, Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chueakaew sent officers to sort out the mess. The tourists and drivers were hauled into Wichit Police Station for questioning.
The cops found that the row began when the tourists were leaning against a parked taxi while waiting for a ride to their Patong hotel. When the driver asked them to move, it sparked a heated argument that soon turned violent.
After reviewing CCTV footage, the police found both sides equally responsible for the ruckus. They’ve been charged with, “colluding in a loud fight in a public place or public area, or engaging in behaviour that disturbs public peace and order.” Despite the charges, everyone agreed to move on without grudges and went their separate ways, reported Phuket News.

A warning to the Thais. If you keep indulging this demographic with their entitled attitude, in not too many years time you'll find Thailand in the same situation as many western countries. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile.
-
After reading the other reports about the Thai woman deliberately blocking the road in front of the guy, I'd day she was completely at fault. The American may have been a bit hasty, but he was driving his sick wife to hospital.
-
That certain demographic starting to make its mark in Thailand, just like in the west in the not too distant past. At least this guy admitted he was in the wrong whereas in the west they've become too entitled to do that and just do as they want.

You know when a politician's made an impact when they're all that the far-left can talk about. The more you see their name mentioned, the more popular they are. Even after death ie Maggie Thatcher. I love seeing lefties turn purple with steam coming out of their ears.

The International Criminal Court's (ICC) chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, reaffirmed the court's jurisdiction over the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict and urged judges to promptly rule on his request for arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other key figures. The call came in a 49-page legal brief submitted by Khan, who stressed that "it is settled law that the Court has jurisdiction in this situation."
Khan’s appeal to the ICC pretrial judges is a direct response to his earlier filings in May, in which he requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and three senior Hamas leaders—Yehya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, and Ismail Haniyeh. Since that filing, both Haniyeh and Deif have been killed in the ongoing conflict.
Khan’s May request was based on accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by both Israeli and Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip and Israel. Sinwar, who orchestrated the October 7 attacks on Israel, has since been named Hamas' new leader in Gaza.
The prosecutor’s move comes amidst a complex backdrop of legal arguments submitted by various countries, academics, victims' groups, and human rights organizations, either contesting or supporting the ICC’s authority to issue these arrest warrants. A central focus of these arguments has been whether the ICC's jurisdiction is nullified by a clause in the 1993 Oslo Accords, which stipulated that the Palestinians would not have criminal jurisdiction over Israeli nationals.
Khan dismissed this argument, labeling it as "without merit" and asserting that it conflicts with a proper interpretation of the Rome Statute, the founding treaty of the ICC. He further contended that the argument "misunderstands basic concepts of jurisdiction under international law, including under the law of occupation," and how these principles apply to the court's mandate.
The potential issuance of arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant could have significant implications, particularly for their international travel, as Israel is not a member of the ICC. While the immediate risk of prosecution is minimal, the threat of arrest could hinder their movements abroad. Netanyahu has vehemently denied the accusations, calling Khan's actions a "disgrace" and an attack not just on himself but on the entire Israeli military and the state of Israel. Despite this, he vowed to continue Israel’s military operations against Hamas. Hamas, in turn, condemned Khan's efforts, arguing that the prosecutor was equating "the victim with the executioner."
The Israel-Hamas war, which erupted on October 7 following a surprise assault by Hamas militants that resulted in the deaths of around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, has been devastating. The militants also abducted approximately 250 individuals, of whom around 110 remain in Gaza, with a third believed to be dead. Israel's retaliatory strikes have led to the deaths of more than 40,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Hamas Health Ministry, although the distinction between militants and civilians in this toll remains unclear.
As the legal debate over the ICC's jurisdiction continues, the timeline for the judges' ruling on Khan's request remains uncertain. The decision will be closely watched, as it could set a precedent for the court's authority in complex and highly charged international conflicts.

Easily done. I spent a morning trawling around Roppongi in Tokyo trying to find my bicycle that I'd used the previous evening to go on a pub crawl. You were allowed to ride on pavements in those days, don't know if you still are. Anyway, found it eventually leaning against a barrier at the busiest crossroads in the area, unlocked and untouched. Had to retrieve it under the watchful gaze of a Japanese policeman. Very embarrassing.

I'm a non-believer in a God type person, but believe that the physics of the universe is God. It's puzzled me on the rare occasions that I've looked at a corpse that looks perfect in every way. but lacks that spark to make it get up and start moving about and interacting. Everything else is in place, where has that spark gone? What that spark is I'd love to know.

Yep, and a lot safer than the city of our birth. I've lived in the Pattaya area for 18 years and feel a lot more secure than I did walking along Everton Road after the pubs let out. Never had any probs all the time I've been here and after visiting many places in Thailand, wouldn't live anywhere else.

What is appropriate to people in uniform is that very few of the people wearing it have served in the armed forces, despite the rows of medal ribbons, para wings etc. Even my missus, when she was a teacher wore a uniform with two gold bars on her shoulder and three medal ribbons, for being first to the school canteen three times in a row is my guess.
