  1. Friend of mine, also a bit older loves shooter games. Not doing well on it, but really enjoys it. And surely it taxes the brain to the limit no matter if you are 14 or 100.

I got told that some older people love to play online "World of Tanks"...This came in my mind when I saw your avatar. It is a bit slower, but not easy, I got told.

    (Never tried it).

Not decrying all games, I do realise that some require strategy tactics and quick thinking.I for one am challenged by Plants v Zombies, while being a competent programmer in Fotran (ancient) VB and Python.

The concept of code.org is to encourage people to create programs, initially games, but hopefully to interest them sufficiently to study

computer science and fill the burgeoning demand, rather than become Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water.

Incidentally only a small percentage of schools in US have classes related to computing while China claims 100 percent.

I've never played "Games of Tanks", having been in the 7th Armoured Division in real life, (Centurions and Conquereors)

  2. I have never ever played any computer game previously, feeling that the whole concept is juvenile and time wasting and that reading Philosophy Astronomy,Economics and Lee Child was more in keeping with my IQ

However.....I am now trapped and addicted to Plants v. Zombies. and cannot get past quite a low level, where little strategy is involved. mostly just

bashing them. It seems impossible, no time to dig up the graves or plant potato bombs, before hordes are "EATING MY BRAINS"

Is my computer too fast or something or is it just me..I need help ASAP as food is running out here.

  3. Thanks for the tip, mate! Made me think! From now on I'll make a point to take my piercings out, get a nice haircut, hide my commie tattoos and dress nice before going through US border controls.

Appreciate that. Thanks. As Lee Kuan Yew once said: "Garbage looking people deserve to treated accordingly."

    Great man, that Lee.

Whether he said it or not he was right. It is now time to take DNA and fingerprints from the whole population/s.

All newborns from now on. Should increase convictions and also exonerate many.

It seems that many criminals either don't watch CI or are too dumb to understand it and will continue to leave DNA etc.and be bewildered by their apprehension.

  4. There are many cultures where cheating in all forms is admired, and seen as being smart. I am particularly intolerant of the soccer "simulators",

Why is it not called cheating.?

More to the point a friend in the USA showed me a letter from his son who was enrolled (First Year) at Indianapolis University. It was nearly incomprehensible in spelling, grammar and structure. As an amateur codebreaker I thought was being given something from a modified one ttime pad.

    He first language was English.

Similar entrance qualifications for admission to a Draughtsman's Institute. I knew of, a sharp pencil and 5 Pounds..?

  5. How do you suggest they catch pedophiles without invading innocent peoples' privacy? I had my laptop searched 2 years back and there were a lot of questions asked about my arm around 2 5 year old hill tribe girls. I answered truthfully and never felt my privacy was violated as I had nothing to hide. It always seems to be guilty people that are first to question the legalities over wiretaps, searches and so on.

"The Wicked Flee When No Man Pursueth"

Been watching a lot of "Border Security" (Youtube. Aus, USA, UK.)

I am amazed how gently the officers treat people with umpteen kg of undeclared goods, explaining patiently, (apparently to frequent violators, who kave filled in "nothing to declare" in forms in their own language). Then the officer sorts out what is admissable from what is not. A fine is then levied a massive $110 (AUS). The violator protests endlessly, and on and on and on.

I would dump everything and fine them $1000. 3 minutes tops.

Those wth fake passports and visas are also treated with kid gloves, hopefully only for the camera.

    Drug smugglers get shorter shrift.

If I were to indicate the largest number of nationalities violating, I would be accused of racism.

  6. Went to Amazon Fishing Park SE of Jomtien. They wanted 4500 baht per rod, no discrimination though, same for 5yo and Thai Lady.

Biggest fish I have ever seen and quite dumb I think as they are caught repeatedly. We watched them being caught every 5 minutes by

the ubiquitous Russians, who did not deign to bait or handle the rods, but put down their beverages, to watch the netting and release of the monsters.

You can not take your catch home, even if you had a freezer large enough. No doubt the pond would be emptied in a few days if the fish were taken

We watched then went to nearby Greta farm (free). , VG for children.

Anyone know a Fishing Park suitable for children please ?

  7. Went to Amphur to register will, they seemed bewildered by my request and after the contents had been studied by the gathered multitude, and discussed loudly, they understood after I had to use my tablet with spoken Thai.

An ancient dog eared school exercise book was then produced, and it was indicated that this was the "register".

I made my excuses and left, imagining what my executor might experience.

I believe it might be better to go to Bangkok, Can anyone recommend an Ampur office there please.?

  8. Bumrungrad without any doubt in my mind - however you must do your homework first. Look up doctor profiles - make an appointment with the Dr. who is a leader in their own field. Lots of trainee doctors and top flight professor types at bumrungrad - hence you need to do the homework. Personally I ask my own doctor and she always say's oh "Khun so & so is expert". To my mind, BPH is a rip-off with for the most part second rate doctors, but its only my own experience. if I got ill at my house in Pattaya, I would go straight to BKK and bypass BPH completely. Oh and I have been to both many times and paid for lots of treatments at both for different people. Bumrungrad is cheaper and better than BPH in my simple experience.

Well said !! Especially about doing your homework. Without becoming a hypochondriac, read all you can on your condition on the web.

    .

I have found that Bumrungrad will always try to sell you the most expensive tests/treatment.

Full MRI for few varicose veins, convinced them a small 2 minute injection would do the job, and my sister was FRCS.

Wanted full cardiac workover for a pulled muscle. I hobbled out.

Don't be hesitant to challenge them. For a place with a MacDonalds on the premises you are entitled to.

  9. We machine hydraulic seals on a CNC machine and we get more and more in very special products which require more and more programming.

Till now we did it with common sense, but now my operator should read some books about it. Usually books about this are not found easily.

Anyone know where we can find such in Thai language?

Which machines/controllers/cad/cam system are you using then I'll tell you.

  10. After 40 years in Asia and pressing towards Simenon's record. My Libido has suddenly collapsed, not gradually but precipitously.

After living with quite a drive, I honestly feel released (you would say that wouldn't you).

Much more wardrobe space, gave all the uniforms away, so if you see some girls as SIA hosties and security guards.and..and ...etc.....

    My bank balance is burgeoning.

My other lifestyle has not changed, mental and physical exercise.

A guy who was looking forward to retiring here was quite interested, he said if it happened to him it would not be worth living (both meanings) here..

I could have made the Topic.."Is there life without sex ?" unbelievably to me seems yes.

That alternative can be read many ways of course but you know what I mean..I trust.

  11. "think I'll go take a walk on the beach. 20 years ago that would have been a run not a walk"

You can do what you do today, tomorrow, as long as you do it today.

You are as young as the girls you feel

  12. Got a yen for fishing some years ago, bought all the rods and tackle, read the book, got the tide tables.

Fished off the beach from Koh si Chang to Koh Chang, really relaxing but caught ONE fish and that was only a few hundred grams. Then saw that the sea was generally netted virtually everywhere about 100 metres offshore.

So..take to the boats, Had an excellent day, (swim lunch etc) with a Dutch place (not there now)..caught a box load of very small fish. Next step..go with the serious guys (Germans) on a boat from somewhere near Sattahip, drove thro appalling slums. No-one caught anything. the lunch was a styrofoam box of cold rice.

Another try, small boat along beach road, only about 1200 baht..went twice..caight nothing. Don't see them now, I think the 6000 baht/ few hours power boats have chased them off,

So...on to the fishing parks, caught nothing but had my hearing damaged by the wardrobe sized speakers.

So if your friends just like a days fishing and not care about catching anything then it's fine by my experience. There are sometimes pix of guys with huge fish in the paper..but....don't know.

If you do catch anything please let me know

  13. "Most businesses put up loony prices ..."

Not oly businisses..there is a price of FOURTEEN POINT SEVEN MILLION baht on 3 terraces, adjoining the end of an appallng row of slums, on the road to Phoenix Golf Course.

Sorry can't comment on the food, I never eat out..something to do with the provenance of the ingredients and hygiene.

  14. They used to be, but Universities have made major strides. Many get the same respect as brick and mortar classes

In the English Speaking World, I believe you will find that Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, Harvard, Princeton and MIT are the few that people accept at face value. Does not mean anyone should not pursue online study, but be realistic.

I continue to study thro' the Teaching Company Audio Series, most lecturers from prestigious universities like the above.

Not for any degrees but for pure knowledge.

  15. B4 I'm flamed I'm not knocking tattooed people, as I don't know any.

Really? What cave do you live in?

It's not so much the cave one lives in, it's the circles in which you circulate.

Don't know anyone with a tattoo?

    Preposterous.

    Scratching an itch...

It is peoples perception that gets tattooed people a bad image..maybe here's why..

    Percentages with tattoos

    FRS.............................NIL

    FRCS...........................NIL

    M.I.MechE.....................NIL

    Neorosurgeons..............NIL

    Prison Inmates..............93.62%

Someone has expresses disbelief that I say I do not know any people with tattoos.

Well no-one on my mailing list of contacts has any, thats 387 people, and it depends what you mean by

KNOW, as Professor Joad would always qualify his statements. I see many people with tattoos, even some tattooed on every visible part (...a fairground act on holiday ? ), but I don't know their names or have their fax numbers.

Some posters also might like to google "paradox" and "logic statements", to see how a person might even know someone but not know he was tattooed. It will be heavy going for some but peresvere and you might get the concepts.

  16. My skin cancer was treated in Pattaya as eczema, even when I have a history of it.

A letter from Dr.Oliver requesting a biopsy was tossed aside.

Went to Bumrungrad (Harvard trained doc) he diagnosed it at a glance. not cheap why should he be ?

    Advice..go to Bumrungrad

  17. "umbrellas, wooden sticks, wooden beams, pepper spray, police stun guns ALL did NOT stop pit bulls in rage!!"

I am indebted for this info, as there is a pit bull near where I cycle, I will let him/her have my arm while I disembowel it with my Buck, a la Rambo in "First Blood", which will now always be at hand, but invisible.Would that stop it ?

What about crushing the goolies if it's a male, (my work, not MA, has given me powerful hands)..would that work, or giving it a J.Arthur perhaps ?

  18. "So you googled pitbull and thats the best you could come up with........ My aunts had 4 pitbulls and has never had them turn on her. "

Your aunt is a sample of ONE, Google has EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR THOUSAND HITS for

    "PITBULLS KILL"

ONE Aunt..is that the best you can come up with ? Perhaps you have a few more aunts to balance these stats?
