  1. I honestly have no idea what anything costs an egg may be 1baht or 20baht, a loaf 20 baht or 120 baht

don't know. I pick up what i need.

Enough basic shopping for at least 10 days from the local market and 7/11..change from 500 baht.

Veg, eggs, chicken 100 baht 4 very large pieces.

At a guess I spend 3000 baht pm on groceries and some of my shopping is at Villa.

The thai food section here has taught me simple cooking, there's even videos on how to.

    I

  2. Paid vast sums over the years, and never regretted a baht, btw I suppose gf means girl friend..of all the girls who have either lived with me, travelled with me or merely been one nighters I've never seen them as girl friends. I guess it implies having feelings towards them.

    btw again..love a pal's sig

"why get it for free when you can pay for it ?"

  3. I had a wallet with 40 K baht in it returned by a lady with a push cart. I would have given the whole 40k not to have to jump thro' the hoops to replace all the cards and stuff. I felt mean only giving her 1K

It is now securely chained to my person, along with keys.

  4. Having watched CNN for a long time now, I always found their need to tell you that you were watching CNN with amazing frequency, very tedious. and the OK, fat lady who gabbled the weather caused panic in me looking for the remote to switch off.

So..at a new place with pirate cable, I found Aljazeerah.

I expected to see a succession of mullahs invoking fatwahs and jihads, with hordes of young boys chanting in a language they do not understand.

What a SHOCK..they have garnered very professional anchors and correspondents, and show really high class documentaries, many heart wrenching, about conditions in Africa and the Middle East.

On the other side of the coin Foxnews is also available..I'm not sure where the news is, just a succession of people who must be seconded from the National Enquirer.

They claim probably correctly that they have the highest ratings, I'm sure they do, as they are catering to the Lowest Common Denominator.

  5. "not sure what you mean with push bike, but do I understand right that I should be able to take my regular bike on the BTS? Any extra charge for this?"

Pushbike is a pedal bicycle, this forum frequently refers to motorcycles as bikes.

Yes, you should be able to take your bicycle on the BTS, I have seen many.No extra charge (I think)

When I go to Prapadaeng, Go to Bangkok Bank Head Office on Rama III, there's a ferry there.

Also a ferry from Klong Toey but not easy to find.

Nearest BTS is Chong Nong Si, it's an easy ride to the Bank. I cycle from Rajadamri/Silom..in rush hours

never had a problem, some believe that in any accident the larger vehicle is always at fault here.

Not sure if it applies to farangs and no matter who is at fault if u r dead.

Rot Fai Park, go to BTS Morchit is quite good.

    Queen Sirkit quiet but boring.

  6. "The 'experts' who are supposed to give free advice on Sundays when they meet, are really only looking for punters.......and the Speakers are either Boring as hel_l or trying to

    sell their products or services"

Not totally true, I know they had a genuine professional astronomer there, unfortunately the members all

asked him to tell their fortunes.

"You pay a few Bht to get in and they 'give' you a free 'iffy' breakfast"

The leftovers of the hotels week of breakfast buffets.

  7. I have seen a pack (10) of bike tourists on the BTS at Siam during the rush hour, Also frequently seen push bikes on the BTS.

All the long distance buses will take a pushbike.

The MRT/MTR ? do not allow yet their trains are much less crowded.

If the OP wishes to PM me I willl give him/her lots of info about pushbiking in Bangkok and Chonburi. I doubt if many readers wish to read such stuff

BTS Guards !!! I often want to get the first trains,, some allow you in at 5:50 (Chidlom) and others don't.(Rajadamri)

Go to Chidlom at 5:50 and get the train, already plenty of people, must have got on 15 minutes ago, (not BTS workers)

  8. "Anyway, I hope you did report this to the police. Despite their legendary careless attitude, sometimes they do something positive and get it right and catch the bad ones."

I gave Baht1000 to a policeman, he tooled up like a SWAT guy, and went with me to chastise a dog owner (9 dogs) which always chased me.

He did not know what I was complaining about until we got there, but he seemed ready to take on whoever and whatever .

I think he was disappointed, as his job was just manning a box at an intersection on 36.

I now have his cell number

  9. I have a serious parang (two actually) in my car, used legitimately ? for bushwhacking in the boonies.

The smaller one can fit in my backpack.

My telescopic sticks have a selection of ends, some pointed and weighty handles, One is always with me, largely for dogs, but as most have pointed out there's no defense against a gun, except a talisman.

I think I can prove peaceful usage but perhaps I'd still get done.

    Thoughts of pundits please.

  10. Now I have my IRON wok, and am working up the courage to condition it, (Thanks To Rudyard Kipling's TV character)..I am also musing what I might cook, if and when I master the omelette.

I thought that fried rice might be within my limited competence, so off to buy some. Must be brown I thought.

However there are many drums of rice with colours like red, purple, bright yellow etc. The grains appear very small.

Is it just dyed like the blue chicks in Chatuchak, or should I get some?

  11. "If you ask the doctor he/she will write down what medication you need and you can then purchase it from Fascino at a much cheaper price."

Since many drugs are just copied with ineffective ingredients, where, if anywhere can we be sure they are genuine ?

  12. A Thai lady business owner I know had a meal with a female Singaporean Girl Friend, both in their 40's.

They both spoke in English. When it came to pay the bill, the Thai lady spoke to the crone in question, in

    Thai.

She was then interrogated about her relationship with the other lady !

Was told she would not have been served if the crone had known she was Thai.

Go Figger.. my Geordie friend would have said, "She's a heid the ba'"

The Atlanta has had many "faces" in the '70's it was a favorite for hippies and druggies, frequently busted.

  13. "use a lawyer not a do-it-yourself kit for example"

I had a "special offer". One bank a/c 2 condos and chattels, one beneficiary..Baht30,000

One bright idea, sell my condos to beneficiary now, Baht10 each
