  1. Yes I have crossed on foot many times for the day trip. I cant answer your visa query. Thais get a photocopy of their passport at a booth cross and give the photocopy to a Thai Immigration bloke as they flood back at about 459pm. I dont think you can take te car. The Visa says "walk" on it. My Buermese friends all got very very nervous if I was in a car or van. Motorcycle taxis seem ok though!!!

  2. ps julius in the bahtbas.com forum a few months ago someone posted a not dissimilar story though it was not an african country the girl went to I think it was Japan. The account posted is very detailed. In that case I seem to recall the girl was able after a time to contact the poster who then ( the local police and Thai government were uselless ) went and negotiated with the agents who sent her out to bring her back. I seem to recall he paid in the region of $15,000. Yes quite a lot but a captive Thai hooker is a valuable commodity in many markets.

pps The girl in that post managed to make contact. In an african country who knows if she could manage even that.

I'm not sure how "girly" lives here completely illegally and then uses a blue book to cross the borders. If she is illegal in the first place, how is she crossing and re-crossing the border legally?

Many migrants who cross the border illegally cannot re-enter Burma legally because they risk arrest or extortion for leaving illegally. Women in this case are especially vulnerable to rape, imprisionment, extortion, and trafficking.

Thanks I thought there might be some exit visa procedure this indeed may be the problem. Though of course the Burmese authorities don't know she has left I would imagine the neighbors do and someone might rat. I suppose its extortion she must fear, she got traficked already.

In answer to your question as to how girly lives in LOS illegally I am not sure what to say. In the words of the immortal song ....no income tax no VAT......

She stays out of trouble and places where she has to show her id card.

As for crossing the border mai sae / tichalek. There are severely "ferrymen" who will take you across round each bend of the river outside of sight of the border bridge its what 6 meters across I think the price is 50 Baht. By the time I have qued at Thai Immigration qued at Burmese immigration and crossed the bridge girly has already crossed and is waiting on the back of a scooter. I am sorry I have no idea how she crosses into Thailand legally but she does with all the others comming over for the day brandishing a book which her family take back. Sometimes though she does the ferry thing. The only time we get serious trouble is at the checkpoints you find all over the Chaing Rai area particularly on the way to the airport. The checkpoint boys are very religious though and always solicit a donation for Buddah it being some festival every time we are stopped. So happy are they at me devotion to their faith they always forget to ask for girlies ID card.

Seriously any further info as to the risks she runs in Burma would be appreciated.

  4. A sense of proportion please.

The guy runs courses it seems and employs teachers. I understand he is pissed as he has lost business and presumably he is not sufficiently funded that its a loss he can take. He blames you and your girl.

This is not a multi million Bhat property deal where you wont sell an access strip of land. You are not partners in the methamphetamine business. He does not front a go go money laundering firm.

How is he going to get a hitman? Do you hang with a crew who know many. So whats he going to do? The local teenage toughs will just take his money and tell him to piss off. The local real toughs will take his money then ask for even more money then tell him to piss off. The pissed teenage boys will take his money then go and drink more wiskey before crashing their scooter. The local college boys will blackmail him and the local cops will think its chrismas . He wont have pennny by the end of it.

Unless there is something you aint saing I cant see the bloke has a chance in ###### of finding a hitman.

I think you have have a case of Big fish in Thai pond falang syndrome.

Could he/would he hire a hitman in falang land. If not he is not going to do it successfully in Thailand.

Tell him to go screw or you will f up the little bit of biusiness he has left.

  5. I am particularly interested in this thread as my ex ( whom I still look out for for reasons not relevant here) was/is such a girl. Lahu ethnicity displaced I guess a decade ago. I have been to Taichelik/Mae Sai numerous times where her immediate family live just over the border in Burma. She lives in Thailand completely illegally. Girly is somewhat disabled and cannot speak and I have been trying to get some answers from her family on why she cannot simply go and live back with them. Her family don't seem to grasp the question and girly goes into a charade of bad soldiers robbing and shooting ( Though that does not happen in Taichelick as far as I have seen ). She manages to sneak over for the day when I am with her and I have seen her then cross back into Thailand legitimately with a copy of these blue books all the Burmese have when they cross.

The original post sais these girls cannot go back. Why?

Is it cause their families dont want them back but want theme "working" ?

Is it cause the local gangsters will assume she has made a few quid and come calling for extortion money.

Will she have broken some Burmese law by leaving the country and then returning after 7/8 years?

Any reasons why girly may be at risk if she returns to Burma appreciated.

I've just had a chat with the wife, she reconed it was 3,000+ for the first year so this could be the medical bit as well but she was unsure.

You need to go to the main Gov office's in Nakorn Sawan, I think its all in the same building. If you PM (private msg on here) or e-mail me. I'll give up our phone number, then your friends wife can ring mine if she needs to know any more.

    Cheers RC

Are you saying that a Laotian doesn't need a Non-Immigrant visa to do this ?

There are some special unwritten rules for these nationalities.Doc.I don't think that they do need any kind of visa as there are new registration rules for them.Lao,cambodia,burma.I think the local immigration and work permit department rather thank them when they appear to register for legal work and legal visas there :o

sas_cars I think the good Dr was just being facetious. :D

They do have a minimum wage set by the Gov though, but they hardly ever get it, as if they complain they get shipped back.

  7. Thanks thats great news. I fly out on my six monthly Holiday tomorrow :o and did not want to spend too many of my hard earned days off trying to figure Thai Law out. I take your point as to why my friend and his wife did not sort it. Suffice to say some people though lovely in all respects are not the most organized and proactive. My mate does not live in Thailand and did not have a clue as to how to achieve things on his last holiday and his wife who is quite young did not know either. I am though going to get her to take some steps now I know I am on the right track. I am sure she will now I am on the case. With a bit of luck she will be able to do everything without me. If not I will take a trip to get the ball moving and if so be assured dinner and beers are on me. I will send you an email.

Thanks again for your input its much appreciated.

  8. I shall be flying off to LOS in a couple of days and I have promised a mate a favour.

My friend is married to a Thai lady and has a property and some land near Nakhon Sawan.

His now wife use to work in a bar and was particularly friendly with a girl there. This girl is by all accounts a good egg and works 24/7 365 days per year. She is Lao. I do not know yet if she has a work permit.

My friends wife wants the girl to come live with her and the girl wants shot of the bar too.

I understand that many Thais have foreign domestics and thats the route I have suggested. My mates wife is 20 and though pretty smart has no idea how to sort it hence my falang input and no doubt dosh is needed

I understand this is what you do

    1. Employer submits their house registration, ID, map of the place girl will work for, filled the request form for migrant domestic worker. at the Local labor department)

Then they will send the the permit to you ( in approximately 2-3 weeks)...

    2. after the employer have got the permit , take girl to register at the local labour department ( she needs to bring her 2 passport photo) registration fee 1,800 baht for 1 year permit + 100 baht registration fee.

    3. then bring the registration and permit to the hospital for physical check-up. ( they will tell you in the permit which hospital to go to ) cost 1,900 baht.

If the above is accurate I am never going to sort that out in a two week holiday when I am also going to be on a beach.

    My question is two fold.

Is the above procedure correct and does anyone know of a lawyer/agent who can sort me out preferably in the Nakhon Sawan area.

    Richard
