  1. I will explain my position, before I retired i ran a very successful engine building company, for race engines winning numerous championships, I am a multiple British saloon car champion so know what I am talking about through experience. We spent months of work on engine dynos evaluating oils and additives, they are well worth using as they can improve power and reduce wear. Diesel injection cleaners also work extremely well. so up 2 u!!!

Think the OP is talking about his grocery getter, not a race car.

PS. What additive did you put in oil...?

I will ignore your juvenile comments.

Ever raced Thunder Saloons? We might have a mutual acquaintance.

No but I was friends with Gerry Marshall, Mike Smith and Noel Edmonds in the Radio one series, and Jock Robertson Mazda fame.

  4. Just to make Myk happy I stopped at Loei Toyota to get prices. They had a 4X4 2 door that looked pretty good. The salesman came by and we proceeded inside to look at numbers. The numbers looked to be about the same as the Isuzu so now I had to decide whether to buy Isuzu or Toyota. As he was tapping on his calculator, I discovered that he had priced a High Rider rather than the 4X4 that I was looking at. The V Cross Isuzu was loaded with many more options than the Toyota. Of course the Toyota 4X4 was a lot more expensive. 57,000 baht more to be exact with less options. You guys can stick your Toyota trucks. I should add that the interest rate was 2.9 percent which works out to about a total of 14 percent. I told them that I would pay cash and he then said that he would have to raise the price. Their finance commission must be pretty high.

I then went to Loei Isuzu. I had told Wang Suphung for a final price and told them I was going to price the same truck at Loei. If Loei was cheaper, I was going to buy it there. I was a little miffed at Wang Suphung because they wanted me to pay for some of the cheaper accessories. Loei Isuzu didn't quibble on the cheaper accessories and I ended up saving about 15,000 baht for everything I wanted. It was funny because on the way home, Wang Saphung called my wife asking if we wanted to order the truck. She told them that we saved 15,000 baht by ordering from Loei. TOO LATE! Loei wasn't too happy about taking cash either but they accepted the deal. I should add that their interest rate was cheaper than Toyota but still to high to suit me..

The Isuzu had a number of things that I really didn't want but they came with the V Cross package. It has a button start where you don't need to put the key in, just have it in your pocket. The other big item was an in dash GPS that I really didn't want. Just touching the door handle unlocks the doors as long as the key is in your pocket. They promised a 15 day delivery after they checked on the Internet. We'll see.

Myk, do you know anyone who has a decibel meter? I'd be curious to check your Toyota and my Isuzu at highway speed. That would tell the tale.

My ears work well we can drive both when yours comes and compare, ??

  5. Cheap Charleys can always find specials around Pattaya for inexpensive fish an chips but it's usually rubbish. Once you cut thru the batter there is rarely any firm flesh but is mushy and tasteless. Like some others here I'm a regular at Jolly Friars and I don't mind paying more for quality.

Well said that man I agree 100%.

  6. Anyone know a good pub / restaurant Udon have good ferang food reasonable prices? Good farang breakfast restaurant too. Going with the missus. Prefer not the bar area

I know this might be a tad too late, Kenny. But noticing you're online I have to share this. I highly recommend The Diary Restaurant.

It's run by a Nui (the excellent chef) and Karl. They have got an extensive menu ranging from American, Italian, Mexican, European and the list goes on.

From the time I discovered this gem of a restaurant, I have been a regular so does friends to whom I'd recommended.

It's down a small soi along Udon Dutsadi Road. You can find the exact location in udmap.

Avoid Samphan Fish & Chips though.

    Cheerios

I would far rather eat in Sampan Fish and chips, who sell excellent food rather than that jumped up cafe called Diary with no ambiance what so ever and miles from anywhere!!

  8. I had lunch in the air conditioned Jolly Friar today. I had my breadcrumbed F&C at 149 baht.

For the extra 50 baht (than Fryday where you're sitting in the heat and pollution surrounded by hookers and smokers), I was cool and comfortable watching CNN.

    Life is for the living!

Agree 100% let the cheap charlies go elsewhere.

  9. Went to Fridays today and I can confirm this is a great place and for those prices this place will be hard to beat.

What was the fish? cod or that doree rubbish?

3 choices of fish at 3 prices but the 99 bht one works for me

Sounds much more like a decent price to me than The Jolly Friar. Seems like a lot of places think serving western food gives them the right to charge 3 times what an average Thai meal would cost.

How can you compare cod with thai street food . what a complete clueless comment?

  10. I know that Sync1 (the version with the 4" screen in the Fiesta and 2014 Ranger) only supports English voice commands, and that Thai's can have problems being understood by it even with their best efforts. The say they have improved it's voice command comprehension in SYNC2, but it's still hard to imagine how it could work for GPS without actual Thai Language support..

I have this vision of it working perfectly for Microsoft engineers speaking Thai place names using their best tourist pronunciations, but failing spectacularly when confronted by an actual Thai speaker smile.png

I watched an online review of the Ecosport a while back done in India. Similar hilarity ensued when the reviewer tried to demonstrate the voice command capability. gigglem.gif

    Hehheee smile.png

Even worse in Thai... just think about "Phetchaburi" - with tourist pronunciation that becomes "Fetch a boo ree", vs "petboor-ee" in Thai biggrin.png

Note: I've literally been stumped by that one, thinking someone was asking me to find a store that sells cigarettes tongue.png

Original PJS owners had the same problem in that the GPS was not integrated.. you had to buy an external GPS that the Mitsu garage conveniently had for sale smile.png

Mine was free, and jolly good it is.

  11. Jolly Fryer, Fantastic, had a large cod and chips on Saturday, and it was superb, white chunky cod and an enormous portion, chips were perfect as well, will definitely eat again on my next visit down to Pattaya.. 10 / 10.

Location and price would be helpful. Pattaya is a big place! Do they serve tartare sauce- it's essential?

    Google is your friend
