  1. It does not really matter where in the world you are working, we all know of companies that for the sake of profit will ignore proper industry standards on safety. BUT, when a worker fails to follow proper safety procedures and is hurt he has only himself to blame. When a company, site supervisor or crane operator fails to follow procedures MANY people can be easily killed or injured. The attitude needs to change but this will only happen when enough people are motivated to push for a change in the laws AND push the system to enforce these laws. The west is certainly ahead in the laws and the enforcement area, with the understanding that some people will always cheat until they are caught. Thailand will get there if the population can get educated and gain a longer view of the countries problems.

  2. Exothermic welding is the method used in commercial installations, for residential it is seldom used due to cost. Any electrical wiring/lighting/supply shop will stock the 1.8 meter rod, the brass clamp and will sell you the correct size wire. just tell them the size of your meter, incoming cable size and main breaker rating and it's a done deal. The connection is normally just below ground level and covered by a plastic landscaping box or 3-4" pvc pipe with a removable cover, you have no need to inspect the connection unless there is a problem so covering it keeps little hands from causing trouble. painting the connection with zinc chromate spray paint is preferred but any acrylic spray paint will do the job. Just be sure the connection is clean and tight before painting so you seal a good connection.

  3. I just want to know who thinks a DC-8 or a Gulfstream 5, or even a EV-2 looks anything like a U2 spy plane? Just because NASA has used them in the past and the BKK Post found a file photo of one does not make it part of this experiment. Once again the government has taken a good offer that would benefit Thailand and thrown it away. I guess there was not enough on the table to make it worth their while.

  4. I am looking for a Clipsal Distributor/Retail outlet in Bangkok. The prices at Homepro and Homemart are not what I am willing to pay, 340Baht for a switched duplex outlet is outrageous. I will be in Klong Thom on Monday but if anyone has an address or Name of shop I would be grateful.

  5. Chalerm could not care less about Myanmar workers unless there is money to be made. He has no interest in enforcing the 300Baht min laws in favor of Burmese workers. I think the other story of today about the rescheduling of a trip to Thailand by a Myanmar official because Aung San Suu Kyi looked so good visiting Burmese workers and attending the Economic Forum. That and the Thai Gov't tripping over itself to try and "recover" it's standing with the Myanmar Gov't says volumes about where their minds are really at.

  6. As far as the temp setting i agree that many times due to low pressure you will not get water hot enough to scald anyone. But a little research on your part, if you look up the models you are interested in on-line you may find that they have temp limits that you set using a internal switch or jumper that you put in position 1 or position 2. This will limit the units heat output assuming you have the pressure to get the water that hot in the first place. Good Luck.

  7. While I agree that the Thai press does not ask questions like the western press you do understand that most thinking Thai's understand what is going on don't you all? And a question like that would not be answered and the chances of that reporter ever being in a position to ask a question again would be very limited. No matter what any party might say about improving media access and limiting censorship it is meaningless. The censorship here is self imposed and aimed at extending the life of the reporter and the media outlet.

  8. The 206 class was designed to operate in the Baltic, and to be able to avoid detection by magnetic mines. The design is a 70's vintage dated but with modernization and a climate control upgrade could be used well in the Gulf. Still I agree that Thailand has much better things to spend their money on. They won't, the politicians will simply find something else to spend the peoples money on and put a kick back in their own pockets.

  9. I know that this is late considering the floods were over in December but I can not get back to Thailand until June. What kind of clean-up did any of you have to do after the floods receded? I have a gas pressure washer to be loaned by a friends family, and I expect everything on the first floor to be a loss. I expect mold but i am keeping my fingers crossed that it will not be excessive. Word from the family was that the water was only knee deep. If anyone has/had a place near Putthamonthon and could let me know how bad the flooding was in the area or what other problems they encountered I would appreciate it. The house is 2km south of the temple entrance on the other side of Sai 4 just as a point of reference. Thanks.

  10. No, the point of this whole "scheme" is to profit the people who will provide the tablets, infrastructure, wi-fi access, upgrades and before this is all said and done they will decide that while this scheme failed we owe it to the students to do it right the next time. and off we will go with another round of spending for no real return for the students only profits and payoffs for those involved in the procurement process.

  11. I would question the source of the E-mail. As has been posted the large factories that produce food for export are all well versed in quality control. I would suspect that the source may have been pushing for Australian Supervision of the factories or just promoting Australian produced products.

  12. The US placing Nalinee on a list of people who US companies or citizens can not do business with has no effect on the Thai constitution. It does call in to question the logic used to place her in a position where she is to have trade discussions with the country who put her on the blacklist. These kind of things should make any normal government think twice before putting them selves in such an embarrassing position.

  13. The better to remind the monk of the suffering of others, and to take the monks mind off of caring for himself. This could become a form of self indulgence which would be wrong. It gives the monk more time for meditation which is the purpose he is in the Monk hood for in the first place. In allowing more bathing when in border countries I can only imagine that the effort of traveling in less advanced areas would subject the monk to other bites, cuts and stings which if not cleaned would endanger the monks life or health. Most of the precepts have very logical reasons behind them but it takes some mental gymnastics to get your mind where theirs was.

  14. The AC unit is sized incorrectly, it is too large for the area it is cooling and is not removing enough moisture. The unit shuts down too early because it has reached the temp you are trying to achieve but did not dehumidify the room. if the unit is sized correctly check for proper drainage from the condensing unit. Look for the clear or white plastic drain line from the unit where the mold is.

  15. I don't see the impeachment having a chance of being sustained. Never heard of a passport being issued to a convicted criminal who is on the run from a prison term at home. But, the passport was revoked using a narrow reading of the law and reissued using a different narrow interpretation.

I see the PM as a puppet of her brother with Chalerm as the guide or control. This government already has it's hands full with the flooding and the normal running of the country. But they continue to ignore that while they get on with returning Khun Thaksin to Thailand.

The Democrats also need to do what they were elected to do and work for the betterment of the Thailand, spending all of their time on Thaksin is as much a waste of time as it is for the Puea Thai.

When Thaksin returns the Airport Blockade and the Rajprasong protests are likely to be mild in comparison, I just hope the government is ready.

  16. Thailand and the Buddhist world has lost a very well respected Monk. We should all take some time and think of what we have done or can do to help people as Luang Pha Maha Bua did in his life. And to reject the pursuit of wealth and money for it's own sake. My thoughts and prayers are with him today.

  17. Seems like the Reds are the logical group to look at, either because of the outcome of the election or as a way of reminding the population that they are still alive and able to cause disruption.

It could also be done to have the Gov't reinforce their desire to keep the state of emergency in place which the foreign press has been showing as the "Elite" repression of the "poor" reds.

This does not mean that the Leadership either endorsed or even knew about it. The Reds seem like quite a fractured group and any one of a number of people could have set this up.

If it was the southern insurgents you would hear about the reason in short order as they would be interested in spreading their attacks to the greater population to bring more attention to their "cause".

I agree with a number of previous posters that the placement of the device in a trash bin was more likely a convenient hiding place to get the device into a group of people where it could do the most damage.

Most bombings of this sort are not to destroy property, that takes a larger device and is more difficult to design/build /place but a shrapnel bomb creates a lot of personal damage and creates fear, worry and distrust .

Which is just what a politically minded bomber is looking for.

Like everyone else I hope that the injured recover quickly and that the bomber is found and brought to justice.

I am concerned that the government, police force and military that the Thai have been supporting/allowing in the past are not as interested in the Thai people as they are in themselves. And until the Thai decide that they are not willing

to accept things as they are, and are willing to hold local Politicians/Police and Military commanders accountable for their actions. Then we will see the Thai people get the government they deserve. I am under no illusions that it will happen soon

but a mindset has to change before progress can occur.
